Have you tried the Opinel chestnut & garlic knife for whittling yet?
@pollo3122Күн бұрын
Hi, I've been enjoying a lot of your videos recently. I'm just starting to get into the hobby of whittling and I'm about to get my first knife. Even though Flexcut is literally twice the price of Beavercraft where I live, I want to start off with a good tool (instead of getting discouraged by mid quality, having to buy whetstone in addition to the strop due to poor out-of-the-box sharpness and then upgrading to a better model later on anyway). I am aware that there are different blade types for different work, roughing, cutting and detail, but due to the high price I can only afford one knife. Which one should I choose? The cutting knife KN12, the detail knife KN13 or the roughing one KN14? I'm mostly on the fence between KN12 and KN14, I'm afraid the detail knife might break if used for carving too much. In this video the KN14 is being recommended, but in the other video for the cheapest beginner kit you mention the C2 from Beavercraft, which is equivalent to the KN12 bladewise. ;-; Can't make up my mind here.

Very sad, but my hookknives got rusty during a time where i didn't whittle. I mamaged to get the rust off, but not without damage. I've tried my best to get the edge back in shape. But while i can get it decently sharp, there are bits where the edge is shallow due to missing material. Do you think i should just keep using it as is, or grind away everything till the edge is completely smooth again? I've been getting decent results making spoons, but currently I'm working with walnut and it's not doing the job at all

I just got into wood carving and have a brand new beavervcraft set. I was not gliding through the wood after stropping as much as I've seen on videos, even got a whetstone to sharpen my knifes. still am not cutting through my wood as much as id expect. is this a skill issue or do i need to spend more time honing my new knifes?
@CarvingisFun2 күн бұрын
Different tools will cut through wood differently, and different wood will cut differently (even if the same species). Thinner blades slice through the wood easier, but are less resistant while thicker blades cant cut as easily but can handle harder woods. Beavercraft is a thicker blade than what I use on the channel, keep them sharp and they will serve you well. This video shoud give you a good visual reference kzbin.info/www/bejne/mH2XgZV8e7uLf9k

Make sure you maintain the same angle on each pass. Try diamond stones a coarse and a fine, then follow with stropping. While stropping, make sure the blade is facing you on the push stroke and the blade away from you on the pull stroke.

What’s the species of this wood, and pls tell if there’s something harder in same colour tone and wood texture
@CarvingisFun5 күн бұрын
Video is using basswood, cherry is a similar color but is about 3 times harder making it perfect for more detail and durability

Im a little confused with the sharpening. Can i just get a beavercraft leather strop and im good?
@CarvingisFun9 күн бұрын
If your blades are already super sharp, yes you can use a strop to maintain and hone your blades. But if they are dull, you need to go through the steps and sharpen them

You are still a terrible person! My 9 year old grandson, without my permission, loved watching your video about whittling. He was so excited that he paid $500 to you on my card! Shame on you for not making an attempt to correct this obvious mistake by a 9 year old. I had no idea that this could be done by me much less a 9 year old. Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching. You, apparently have no integrity!!! You can clearly see below that you saw and accepted the payment. I call BS that you "have no control over anything..."

I spent 3 days and called customer service on your behalf several times trying to figure this out. I gave you all the information on how to resolve this. If you didn't act on any of the resources I provided you I cant help you. Keep in mind Google owns KZbin, they own the platform and they have absolute control over it. I all I do is just post videos on here.

Seeing that curved strop made me think. Get a short piece of PVC pipe and cut it in half lengthwise. Glue sandpaper to the inside. Depending on how big the PVC is will determine the curvature of the surface. Small knife, small PVC etc.
