Wow. Thanks for the interviews. These are very useful.

I just started this year with my first shoot being a WFDA shoot in Greenville and my second being an OFDA shoot but with the smaller targets like the 17" disc or the 14" square I'm really struggling to actually hit the target. I'm pretty consistently low, especially when I try to go faster. I've been thinking about getting Cal Elrich's Hitem Fast DVD from the CFDA store. I really don't know what I'm missing. Besides the target.

For me the fix for shooting low involves three things. 1- lean back a bit more to get a more angle on the holstered gun so I don't have to draw it up so far. 2- Bring my gun-hand further up on the grip (the webbing between the trigger finger and thumb closer up to the hammer), which immediately raises the angle of the gun. 3- Get myself more amped up on the line by doing some very quick snap-up dry fires before the command. It's actually the last one that works best for me, because if I do those very fast dry fires it gets me in the correct mental condition to do it when the light comes on, meaning a draw that's further up and out of the holster when I pull the trigger, so more on target. These are pretty simple things, but I hope that helps. Good luck with it.

@@fastdraw101 thanks! I'll give those a try. I'm afraid of going past the allowed holster angle in Ohio fast draw so I've tried to emulate more of your upright stance. Everyone in fast draw has been really helpful and great but it does get discouraging to end up missing so much. I've more or less got myself centered with the target. Just when I try to go fast I hit low and when I try to throw my body back a little to compensate I go waaaaaaay high. I've had a few lucky hits of a .34 thumbing... When I can hit.

Howard Darby, Thank you very much for uploading this video. I have two questions though. Firstly, why is this style of shooting not practiced for self-defense (when open carrying a handgun)? Secondly, to what extent could this technique be applied to double-action revolvers and semi-automatic pistols? Thank you very much in advance for taking the time to answer my questions.

Hello John. The main thing to remember is that the sport of Fast Draw is not intended to be used for self defence shooting, much like professional auto racing doesn't have much applicable to teaching someone new how to drive. It's intended as a specialty sport for those wanting to see the ultimate speed they can do against another shooter in very specific conditions: hand on or very near the gun, in a prepared shooting position, using single-action revolvers, etc. Personally I'd use an entirely different style for self defence.

Are there any of thesetypes of events in north Carolina?
@fastdraw1012 жыл бұрын
Hi Rusty. Maybe check with the clubs in SC or Virginia to see if they know of local clubs. I know there are shooters there, so they probably know them. www.cowboyfastdraw.com/index.php/clubs#SouthCarolina or www.cowboyfastdraw.com/index.php/clubs#Virginia

Great tips! What state was this? I live in california and wondering if there are any laws against practicing at my home.
@fastdraw1015 жыл бұрын
This was just outside Reno, Nevada. I'm not sure of the laws in California, but I think they'll be different depending on being in a city or rural. I often practice with lasers, which I know many CA shooters use at home. You can check out this video for details kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4GYhWNpm5mhrNk

Technically it is illegal to fire live rounds in a residential neighborhood since it can be considered a threat to public safety and disturbing the peace. However, since you can fire on private property, it would be better if you know someone who owns a ranch out in a rural area.

I'm not sure why but the audio didn't work for any of the interviews except for Bob Meyers. I have played this video over and over since it came out but still can't here any audio.

Very strange! I`ve played it on a few different PCs and phones, and haven`t had an audio issue. Can you try it on a different device to check? If anyone else is having the same issue please post here or send me a message. Thanks.
