In this video I show you a simple way to adjust your rotary or piBurn grip to ensure the top and bottom of your 40oz tumblers are parallel with the gantry on the top and bottom of your tumbler. Note: I forgot to mention in the video it’s best to zero the digital gauge on the honey comb or flat surface that your rotary or grip is setting on before you dial up the bottom of your tumbler.

Hi Robert! Your video is the most thorough and best that I’ve found online. do you think if you ever make another video similar to this that you could show the part where you focus the laser and also were you remove the laser cover? Thanks for all that you do! You are my favorite channel to watch! ❤ i’m still working to overcome this hurdle and get it figured out, but I’m hoping I can get it to work tomorrow. It seems like there’s such a huge distance from the laserhead to the cup even when I angle it. I’m still struggling to get it to focus so that when I run a test run on my blue painter’s tape that the beam shows up correctly as a white graphic on the tape. Sometimes it’s super faded in some areas as though it’s not even registering on the painters tape. I have a Nova 51/130 and my test speed/power is 400/8.

Thank you for your comments, what lens are you using ? if your using the standard 2” lens it can be difficult to get coverage due to the limited focus distance of the 2” I would suggest the 4” it has a longer range of focus. if you need some help I do one on one classes contact me at [e-mail]

Robert love your content, thanks for sharing. Question about your setup, i usually focus around 7mm. How are you able to engrave with 4.5" gap? Seems like that would be way out of focus but based on the results its obvious it worked, but how? Thanks again

This is a 4” lens with the nose cone takes off. Normal focus for this 4” lens with the nose cone on is 10mm and I focus to 12mm normally. The only reason I take the nos cone off is so I don’t have to worry about hitting the tabs that the handle attaches to.

So, i theory, if the tumbler doesn't have any tabs to attach any handle at all, I can focus my 4" lens from 10-12mm. Right? Does this work for any tumbler size?

Hey Robert, great video! Quick question, how do you deal with the middle part of the tumbler? When we have it focused to the top and bottom, the engraves are perfect but the middle comes out not as clear. Thank you for your help, we appreciate your & your videos

You need to use a lens like a 4” or 2.5” lens that has a larger focus area. 1.5 and 2” lenses have to narrow of a focus range

Hello Robert. I love your videos. I have a Nova 51-100 and a rotor boss. I tried setting up my 30 ounce tumbler the way you described in your video. However, I can only go 3 in away from my tumbler using the 4-in lens disassembled like you described. Unfortunately, my customer did not provide me with a test tumbler. Do you think that this focus of 3 in will work? Because yours was four and a quarter inches. Or should I keep it at the 3° and use my 2-in nozzle lens at 7 mm focus? Thank you

If I have the Boss and the 4” lens from Thunder will the focus, which I think I normally 10mm, be the same as yours, 4 1/4” or do I need the lens and rotor you use. Thank you!

I don't have all that fancy stuff so I just eyeball it and it works out well! I've done done a 32oz and 30oz and 20oz and they all work out. Just my two cents worth!

How do you make adjustments for the full wrap to match perfectly? Mine is about 2mm short. If I just change my image size and circumference to be 2mm longer it didn’t change. Is there another step?

Either adjust your steps per rotation or widen you image but not both

What type of lens are you using? I’ve been using a 4 in lens on my nova 51 for these tumblers and getting mixed results.

4” for these kind of tumbler 1.5 or 2” for flat engraving. Most issues you will see on the nova series are just improper mix of settings I do all of my tumblers on my 35-100 at 400 mm/s at 30% power defocused based on tumbler clean up with dawn shower scrub

So I'm confused by what a 35-100 watt laser is. I have an xtool 20 watt and I know it's just 20 watts. Does the 35-100 mean it's variable? I understand the leveling of the top and bottom but what about the hills and valleys in between since the height wouldn't be consistent.

No the naming convention for Thunder laser are the first number is the width of the engraving bed 35.5” wide and the 100 is the wattage of the laser. Thunders are always 10% over the rated wattage. Hope that clarifies that for you. Here is their site. Thunderlaserusa.com

You may be overthinking it. There are hundreds if not thousands of templates on Etsy and other site for 40 oz full wraps and they all are straight rectangles. I’ve don’t my fair share of these and have never adjusted for the taper

I have the same wattage as you and I do almost all of my engraving at 400mm/s at 30-35%power .08lpi amd 1-2 mm out of focus

@@computercreationz the cups I used were painted, not powder coated. I had to go down to 10% power. Thank you for replying, I usually use the same settings that you do for powder coated.
