Spot on throughout. Love the longer, less rushed format. The journey through the build is much easier to watch in one episode. I think that's why channels like 'M539 restorations' are so popular. So, hopefully it'll help you gather more subscribers. And the car turned out fab as well! 👍👍

I was taught multi leaf springs had a dampening effect, too (the different leaves rubbing against each other dissipating energy through friction). Appearently that effect doesn't really do much, if you can just replace it with a single leaf.

My then girlfriend (now wife) had one of these in 1982. One night it was stolen from outside of my apartment. It turned up about 9 hours later, abandoned not too far from her own parents house! Baffled that it was abandoned and locked, the police officer showed us that when the locks on them were worn, both the door and ignition could be operated with a 2 pence coin! It was an eye opener for us, we got the car back and immediately invested in a Krooklok (steering wheel bar) Even so 5 months later it was traded for a new Fiesta.

Great video, brilliant work. I personally would have kept the bumpers & grille chrome at least. Can understand de chroming those window rubbers (they do look unnecessary) but not sure most people want to see black bumpers on a mk1 Escort.

I usually only watch 20-30 minute long KZbin videos, but this still worked for me as I just split it into two viewings. I didn't even notice no adverts, and yes that was awesome, but honestly you deserve to make money from these! I would definitely not grumble at ads in there (especially as people can just install an ad-blocked anyway) As for the car, very nice. My friend had a red Mk1 and loved that. The black... not completely to my taste, but it still looks good, I just don't like the bumpers in satin? Maybe matte or gloss would look better. Your content is awesome mate, I feel like I know a secret on KZbin by watching you, when the viewing figures obviously don't compare to something like MA. Got to get you to at least 50k subscribers by the end of this year for sure 🙂 I've posted a few of your videos on my forum now, and will continue to do so.

Having a parent who owned one from new, I can testify they came out the factory with door gaps just like it. And the clunking bonnet. Ah the memories. My fatheer in law has 4 of these and a Mexico in his back garages. The market for them and minis is from old men getting older that liked this, junk to me, in the 70s and never had the money. They are buying memories. I figure these cars have a market for another 10 years and it will fall off a cliff. Til then it has taught me just because I think they are junk, someone else sees a value in them that is far more than metal deep. I have now had to fab 3 bodies and find we can restore an MK1 in our sleep fully over about 9 days and always make several grand a week flipping them. I always give my FiL grief for having these old bangers brought in and he always gives me grief for my JDM cars. The difference is I can work on his, he looks at the GTR engine and walks away for a cuppa. Great looking example and great flip, everyone happy and you made it through January without having to tighten the belt.

This Escort gave me flashbacks. I had a neighbour in the late 70s early 80s who had a brown 1100 Escort Mk1 estate. I would often chat to him as he set the tappets at the weekend. Every weekend. For approx 8 years. That is 416 full tappet jobs setting 8 valve clearances a time, including a double check and a triple check - He always triple checked. (He seemingly kept repeating the process - I'm giving him the benefit of being thorough and precise) 24 measurements. Rounded up that is 10,000 tappets. And you know what... I wouldn't let him near any of my tappets. He had a lovely family, a very sweet daughter and a very nice wife. In all seriousness this behaviour indicates some deeper issue. He also insisted he was still receiving 405 line television years after the transmitters were turned off. He wouldn't listen, I was studying telecommunications engineering at the time and knew the subject and transmitter well. (Crystal Palace and nearby IBA tower). His wife left him and I know she was really happy afterwards. He still did his tappets and still thought he received 405 line TV. I think it was those black bumpers. Black door handles, black rear light surrounds. Black window trim. Black wipers.... Edit: I meant the black stuff may have made me think of the dark times with that old brown estate... I read it again and worried you may have thought I was comparing your strange behaviour and chromephobia with this mans behaviour. I most certainly was not. Even if you have a weird chromephobia you are still saner than I am... That should be obvious... and of course nobody is comparable to the Hawaii Fivo-O man (He looked like one of the characters from that classic TV programme - broadcast in 405 lines from the Crystal Palace transmitter). Edit: I forgot a detail. The rest of his time was seemingly taken up attempting to re-string the tuner section of his Rigonda radiogram. I know for sure this took him at least 5 years.
