What a sight! Reminds me of our group partying on top of "Jeep Hill" one Saturday night, and hearing the worst commotion, then seeing Tommy in his beater 1974 Camaro cresting the hill to the amazement of us all, they didn't call it "Jeep Hill" for nothing!

Does anyone know if the Salamander Class 8 car still participates in these trials? I spotted it years ago and it was such cute but odd-looking vehicle.

Yes the Salamander still participates and was out on the Exeter Trial. Unfortunately like all bar one of the class 8 cars, it failed to get off the re-start.

It looks to be a good day out. Is there anywhere we can go for a list of rules and vehicle requirements?
@leslieaustin1512 күн бұрын
Go to the Motor Cycling Club, all the rules for cars, bikes and three-wheelers are there, including tyres allowed, types of transmission, etc, and membership requirements (to MCC and ACU or the car equiv). Remember it’s not a ‘day out’, you’ve got to drive through the night first!
@Clubmotorsportuk2 күн бұрын
It depends whether your interested in bikes or cars. If it’s bikes as Leslie said try the ACU (Auto Cycle Union, the governing body in the uk for motorcycle sports)for motorcycle rules for trials then search out your local club. If it’s cars search out ACTC (Association of Classic Trials Club) where you will find details on the class structure and their championship. If cars is you thing look for your local motor club and may be start with some smaller events ,gets talking to people about any modifications they have done and help they can give you.

@ClubmotorsportukКүн бұрын
This was one of the three main events run by the Motor Cycling Club. Other shorter one day events can be found all over the country. Check out the ACTC (Association of Classic Trials Clubs) championship for dates. Other than that check out your local motor clubs to your area to see if they run any events.

Friction rather than traction - slow and steady doesn’t climb simms… surface ranges from mud to polished rock!

Rear engined RWD with narrow tyres is generally better for climbing a slippery hill than FWD - VW Beetle.

Surely the first few cars have an advantage over the later ones as the track is churned up by then?
@ClubmotorsportukКүн бұрын
Quite often yes but it’s the luck of the weather. Some sections with a shower of rain wash off the “greasy mud” and then become easier. You’re in the hands of the trialling gods!!

@BubbaZanetti-p7wКүн бұрын
What's the prize?
@ClubmotorsportukКүн бұрын
@@BubbaZanetti-p7w Apart from have fun. On the Motor Cycling Club events like this one your aim is to collect a Gold Award by not failing any hill or incorrectly doing a timed test. One failure gives you a Silver and two a Bronze award. After this you can claim a finishers certificate. You are also in the running for a class win or even best car or motorcycle depending what you are competing in. At non MCC events you are looking to do as well as you can in your class. So either a class prize or overall is the aim. There is no prize money just a little award/cup if you are lucky.

The next Motor Cycling Club event is the Lands End Trial at Easter. Though there will be many club events and rounds of the ACTC championship before that across the country. Simms Hill is open to traffic, it is steeper than it looks , take a friend!
