In this video I try to do a fast flip with a cheap car! It's turns out it's cheap for a reason! A lot of car means a lot of problems to get it going again. What would you do on this car? Keep going or break it for parts?

Do a proper repair job on the rusty sill. Blend the paint as best as possible into the rear quarter panel. Someone else has already suggested decals to help hide the (hopefully) subtle paint colour difference. Be honest when selling it. Lots of pics of the work carried out showing rust removed, and area rebuilt. Won't get top price for it, but if done well it should still be worth a good amount.

I agree on this. Aim for the best blend as achievable. Cat D unfortunately and doesn't warrant the full respray. If it looks a bit off you can live with it. At least the sills will be rock solid

Make a detailed video of the quality repairs you always do. It will be peace of mind to the buyer and hopefully sell easier. When is the next video of it.

Instead of painting it to match the rest of the car, just wrap it.

I'd replace the sill and just paint the repair and blend in as best you can with a good mop and polish 👌let the next owner decide if they want a full respray or not. Hard work of the rust repair is done 👍

You should always wear a mask 😷 and my advice is spray white vinegar with water mix 80-30 mix all over the car and on the carpets and then on the carpet and headliner with mould killer and to wet-vac the carpets after.

I’d say the same, as a painter, blowing it in up to the rub strip would be a good enough job. That and the wing, and call it a day. It’s cat D, it’s not an investment car (well not as much), someone will buy it to drive and they likely won’t be as fussy as the man looking for the low mileage high dollar car.

We ran one of these for about 12 years. Was a terrific car. What did we do.....normal maintenance, also dsg and haldex service....couple of batteries, ( in boot, under a hatch,bit of a pain to get to) Suspension bits, couple of window regulators. That was about it. Very reliable engine. So much so, i bought an r36 for myself ( golf was the wifes car) and i still have it, after a good ten years. Great sounds.

The fact you post a video with actual progress instead of just an over edited video of you buying the car and doing 1 bit per week is very good it’s much better than most other peoples content form hate 20 minute videos with no progress myself. The R32 is the car that i always wanted and never had. The value will most defintelt increase, and i m sure decent examples wikk go for north of 10 grand in a year if 2. The VR6 has so much character, i doubt we.will ever see something of its ilk again. I would love to see you do a full restoration, fix the rusty sills, ice blast and rust proof the underside and give it a full respray. Youd be over budget, but youd have a nice R32 that in a couple of years would give you your money back. Wrapping is a thing for heavily modified cars, but in my opinion a respray in the same blue would be the best bet for this classic.

And I thought Italian cars were just the worst for rust and random wear issues. I'm actually surprised this came through that amount of neglect and still was a car. Thanks for demonstrating that buying a car, as a punt, on doing a bit of a flip and building your funds into going higher, is really a risky gamble at time. And when it starts to go wrong, how to ethically try and handle it. Respect for not hiding its faults and making someone else's life a nightmare. I like surprises, but only the good ones...

Oh dear. Typical Mk5 golf though, they rot worse than the mk3s did. Cat D just isn't worth rust repair if paying professional rates... but you might be able to save some money there. Can't the repair just be blended under the bump strip? Edit to add - the wrap idea is neat one, as it is CAT D there is no point keeping it original. I always thought white looks nice on Mk5s Now you know the engine is good, interior is sound etc you'll easily make back your money. A shame as it was going so well.

Depending on the milage a good example is still fetching strong money. You also have gained a good name for your self for delivering high quality cars. I reckon do it to your usually high standard and it will fetch the north of what these are going for. Failing that fall back onto a raffle or see if dream cars will have it off you. I'd certainly get a couple of tickets if there at a good price. It's an appreciating classic. 🤟

I feel your pain, i also flip cheap cars and the latest one (broken cambelt, head off and new valves job) was booked in for MOT and i thought i would clean up the sills and put some fresh Shutz body coating on, well my hand went straight through the sill, it was quite well disguised by the original thick rubbery factory coating, both the sills are rotted about 60cm long in the same place as yours, not impressed, cancelled the MOT and retired to the house for a brew and a sulk. Lesson of the day, get right under the car and have a damn good look at the underside and not just a quick glance.
@shoeysbackyardrepairs25853 ай бұрын
When you fix the rust you could paint the rocker covers black and if you can cut and weld close enough to where the cover sits you could paint it black as well just above and around the cover area in the same design the cover is so it looks like it blends in with the cover. Sort of hard to describe it. 😅
