I always wanted a 70 Chevelle as a teen.I called it my "dream car". My dream came true in 2002 when a buddy said he had one in an old dusty barn, stored since '82. When he pulled back the cover it was a 70SS396, all num. matched. Cowl induction, bucket seats SS whls. It was all orig. and nearly rust free. And 4-sale at a very good price to me. Bought it next day, and was so excited i couldnt even sleep that night. It's getting a frame-off restoration now.

I got my '70 SS 454 for $20,000 2 years ago. How can you say thats overpriced? There's plenty of them out there for that price. Would you buy a Scion TC for $20k that depriciates, or a worked big block chevelle for $20k that appriciates? Take my word for it, and every other '70 chevelle owner; they're worth every penny, and every grin.

I myself own a 70 Charger R/T which is Six-Pack and has a Weiand Blower.Naturally straight mufflers.I installed the blower a few weeks ago, when it was delivered from US.The engine really whines now,but oh how it doesnt grip, when you pull away and go hard on the clutch, when changing gears.

I'm glad they finally started putting some muscle in these flicks. And I appreciate the fact that the producers admit that the imports had to fight dirty to with in 2 fast 2 furious agains the hemi 'cuda and the yenko camaro. American muscle FTW

The debate over American Muscle or Import will never end. I've learned to respect whatever the owner likes. No need to hate on or put down the other guys ride, we're in the hobby for the same reason- we luv cars. Alot of it is a generation thing. I fell in love with American Muscle cars in HS back in 80's, and i'm proud that the crave still flows thru my veins. I found my dream car,70SS Chevelle, few yrs back & just cruise & respect it. However a Honda is 1 of the tuffest cars on the road.

@Mr310Westside According to various sources: 1970 Chevelle SS with a 454 runs the quarter mile in about ~13.7 secs and does 0-60 mph in about 6.1 secs. 1970 Mach 1 with a 428 Cobra Jet runs the quarter mile in about ~13.9 secs and does 0-60 mph in about 5.7 secs. But the numbers are pretty close, so I think it might come down to the traction and driving. Like I said, it would be a good race to see.

@willbleft Exactly. That's what makes the American Muscle vs. Jap Tuner vs. European Exotic so pointless. Because the manufacturers and the owners usually make and tune the cars for their local geography. So, the American Muscles are tuned for the hundreds of 1/4 mile drag strips that are all across the US. And the Jap Tuners, as well as the European Exotics (you could consider both of these the imports) are mostly tuned and focused on handling (and acceleration) for the twisty mountain roads.

@JAnaniades I've got nothing against Supras and Skylines, I'm talking about ricers. And turbo lag is always a factor when you use huge turbos. But with larger displacement imports it becomes less of a factor. I completely agree with what your saying, when you're actually building a streetable car displacement isn't really a big deal. But there is a reason that top fuel dragsters aren't 2 liter engines.

@LStrucks Not quite true... the 1942 Ford GAA engine with hemispherical combustion chambers, dual overhead cams, 4 valves per cylinder, an aluminum block and heads, steel cylinder sleeves, only 7.5:1 compression, and the crappy gas of 1942 was able to make 1,050 ft lbs of torque on 1,100 cubic inches. That's almost one ft lb per inch, something most engines today don't reach. And with tons of technological advances I already listed that are often considered "modern".

even in a drag race, u cant depend on the biggest output. people tend to think that bigger power wins, in reality its how much traction ur car has, and how close to the limit ur engine can get to that breaking point. so even in a drag, we wont know till we see

@Liberater948 exactly, any import can be built to drag drift or track. Actually any car can be, it just takes a whole lot of skill with some, like building a muscle car(not a pony car) to rule the track.

For all my big CC criticism and yank tank bashing, I'd give anything to have a '68 Dodge Charger, 440 Magnum with 727 Tranny...the works. I like my Nissan cus it's endlessly tuneable (not that I can afford to do such things, but i guess I have an affinity towards what you have), and it'll urn forever. Guess Fast and Furious has had quite a bit impact. Handing down a V8 is like a heirloom man, much respect.

I think they made a filming mistake when Vin Diesel's character removed a waterpump from this vehicle that looked like a small cogged timing belt driven pump like you'd see on a honda or a toyota. Keep a close eye on the scene where Vin Diesel when he's working under this car outside on a creeper. Please message me to let me know if I'm right or wrong. They only show the waterpump for a second or two but I think they goofed up.

As far a this video, if you don't get musclecars and big v8s, i don't know what to tell you. I like the idea of normally aspirated motors. I just respect them more. If you build a 550 sbc motor all motor, I respect that more than some 1000 hp 4 or 6 banger that has more power adders than cylinders. If you build a 350 hp 4 banger all motor, then I can really respect that. There is great tech out there, but there is just something about a n/a motor

i live in philly and i drive a 1971 chevelle with a 470 ci big block we have a few skylines out here and ill agree they are fast-- but not all that fast --their claim to fame comes from the fact that they are all wheel drive and do not spin tires on the street---get them on the track where we can all get traction and they get put in thier place pretty quick--its a matter of cubic inches a old school big block will always be capable of making more power than a skyline ever could

If you are seriously asking what the point is behind doing burnouts you obviously either don't have a pair or don't have a car that can. They actually are purposeful for heating up slicks if you need a legit reason. And this Chevelle was doing donuts, definately not 'drifting' if there is a difference

@compaqnc6340 I gotta agree with you. My dad's also a mechanic (go figure), with the ASE master certification. I'm going to be a mechanic if it all works out like I'd want, and my dad knowing this always told me to learn as much as I can about European and Japanese cars, because the majority of cars coming in with major problems at Mr. T's (the shop he worked at) were Japenese, and the second most were European. The smaller number of Americans were mainly for tune ups and performance builds.
