I followed your instructions however my hole dimensions are noticeably different. I suspect that the pvc wall thickness is the difference. I used a thicker wall which required the wholes to be larger

Is the same used on the mouthpiece the same as the rest of the flute? Or is it a bigger size? and what the diameter intern of the PVC?

For a lot of that fine sanding try using emory boards purchased at the cosmetics counters in just about any department store.

Okay so using this tutorial what would be the equation to find the sharp of a note pipe? So if you had a pipe that was tuned to d how would you find how big and where to place a hole that would make a d# pitch? I'm trying to make a pan flute that has a hole for sharps from the pitches b3 to f5 and I want each natural pitch to have a hole that makes it sharp so if it was uncovered I would have a sharp sound and if I covered it it would have the natural sound. Your thoughts?
@RickOsgood5 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I'm not sure on that. I haven't messed with this stuff in a while. However I think for a penny whistle the usual way you would play a sharp note is to only partially cover the hole with your finger instead of covering the whole thing. So you shouldn't need extra holes.

Thanks, but I decided to make a pan flute with two rows instead Mr. @@RickOsgood

Hey,, I made one with a tick PVC pipe it didn't sound good,, but now I tried with a thinner one it works properly but the only problem is it does not produce D ,it half step down ,it produces C# ,,what should I do?
@adamwest25969 жыл бұрын
It just means that yours is in a different key because of some difference in thickness, width, length etc.

Shorten the over all distance of flute body at the end. I use a belt sander to take off small amounts. Hand sanding is very tedious.

Great video :) could you tell me the diameter of each hole? I don´t have any tablet or app ...
@RickOsgood10 жыл бұрын
I can't really just list my own diameters. There are so many tiny variations that the holes I drilled will likely be different than what you will need. If your pipe is a tiny bit longer or shorter, if the mouth piece is slightly different, if your holes are drilled just slightly off from mine, etc. Sorry I can't just list the numbers. If you have a good ear, you can try using a piano or other instrument to tune your whistle by playing the correct note and then matching the flute to the other instrument.

Hey. I'm using this video to make one and about to make the holes but you have 135mm on the chart twice... Anyway you can clarify?
@RickOsgood9 жыл бұрын
I believe the A is actually155. It does look like 135 though.

I see now! Thanks! I did mine with a 7/8" pvc pipe. It seems to be in the key of C# instead of D. But it's still working although I cut my pipe a little too short so it's a little sharp

Great video, thanks! I was just wondering, what app are you using to tune the whistle? Also, where did you learn the songs that you know how to play?
@RickOsgood10 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I used a program called "DATuner Lite" in the Android Marketplace. I've been playing various instruments since I was a kid. Alto Saxaphone was the first instrument I learned so I am sort of used to some of the fingerings. Really, I just taught myself to play a couple of tunes by ear through trial and error. I'm not very good but I can play a couple of things OK.

I've got some metal straws for Slurpees from the 7-11 store I'd like to make a penny whistle from. There's an app called Fllutomat you can find here, pretty easy to use. iotic.com/ Just gotta get some small dowels to fit in the straw for the mouthpiece.. Might have to sand them down a bit..

Shorten the winday length and width to make it less airy sounding. Gotta mess with the winday length and window width to get it the way you want it to sound
