Fire spreads really fast. I just walked from a fire location a minute ago and went to the store next to it. I was not able to find the baking mold that I need so I decided to go back to the street where I came from but to my surprise it is already burning. Thank you so much to the fast response of the Toronto Fire and for putting off the fire really quick. Two thumbs up for you guys.

@@danmack3173 It takes a little bit to get everything set up plus due to the size of the Fire and the sheer amount of Manpower and Equipment they had on scene, some of the Firefighters weren't really needed, its actually better that way, in the field of Emergency Response, its better to have more then enough then to have not enough, a quote that is popular for that is "Better SAFE then SORRY".
@toddster2656
@toddster2656 Жыл бұрын
@@danmack3173 That may be the perception of a civilian. Here's the reality: The firefighters were so fast at pulling hose lines that the engineer was playing catch-up. The firefighting hoseline section needs to be broken and hooked to the discharge gate on the pump. Then the engineer has to engage the pump and charge the line. Look at the timeline. There was water flowing within less than 90 seconds of arriving on scene. Many volunteer fire departments can't come close to that speed.

@@toddster2656 correctomundo. I'd kill to have that many guys show up (I've literally fought fires by myself) , plus we are mostly 10 mins from the hall, not geared up and would never be flowing water in 90 seconds. That first danmack genius has never fought a fire in his life guaranteed.

Don, the response is based on the required manpower to manage a structure fire. Generally anywhere from 15-30 members. The apparatus that they are transported on are required for the potential of that structure fire. Dinkytankman if it wasn't for the management and the unions there would not be 15-30 members responding. City management would cut the staffing to pieces and pay them nothing for risking their lives daily. Firefighters risk everything for you and they are all union members.

The same the whole world over I live in area called the Wirral which was part of Cheshire UK. In 1974 the county of Merseyside was formed with a new county wide fire service. On the Wirral we had 1 Wallasey Borough fire station, 2 Birkenhead Borough fire stations and 3 Cheshire county fire stations. Between these 6 stations we had 15 pumps, 3 emergency tenders, 2 turntable ladders, 1 foam tender and a 4X4 crash tender/off road pump. Merseyside closed 1 station and reduced the fleet to just 5 pumps and 1 aerial with a retained driver. Most of the time the pumps are run with 4 crew instead of the national standard of 5. Last year the new CFO located 2 of the fleet reserve pumps on the Wirral. They are 16 years old which is old for a city type fire and rescue service. In theory the first reserve is retained but it may take 20 minutes to crew it. The second reserve will take up to an hour because they crew it by stripping out other stations which MIGHT have 5 firefighters on a pump.

Always sad to see a fire fighter standing with an empty hose waiting for someone to throw a lever...when will that end?
@amazonbox5551
@amazonbox5551 3 жыл бұрын
Its not just a "Lever", the Engineer has to use math in order to pump the right amount of water, how much water pressure is needed for the water to even reach the Fire and everything else that might be needed (Foam, dry chem etc), the only thing that a lever does is open and close valves to let everything through. Maybe you should really see the pump panels the engineers have to use, then you may rethink this comment.

Establishing a connection to the hydrant should be done at the same time they are laying lines. Your man on the hydrant should be dropped at the nearest hydrant and start establishing a water connection. This way water can be sent while they start the intial attack. Too many departments have gotten away from this. They want to pull up, start laying attack lines, while the man on the hydrant drags his line to the nearest hydrant, close by if he's lucky but most likely at the end of a block. Over sensitive firefighters will of courses take issue with this. You see too many people just taking their time getting set, no sense of urgency.
