Feel the speed of Japan's Shinkansen Bullet Train high speed railway while 'Big Engineer' compares the First Class 'Green Car' with standard seating! Experience the Shinkansen at full speed!
Japan's Shinkansen (新幹線) High Speed Rail network blankets the country with trains regularly operating up to 320 km/h (200 mph). The top speed recorded for Shinkansen trains now in service is 443 km/h (275 mph), but the new 'Linear 0' Maglev Shinkansen (not yet in service) has run as fast as 603 km/h (375 mph).
In this video, 'Big Engineer' is riding the Tokaido Shinkansen line (東海道新幹線), which connects Tokyo and Osaka, with major city stops at Yokohama, Nagoya, and Kyoto in between. Opening for revenue service in 1964, the Tokaido Line is Japan's first Shinkansen - the very first high speed rail line in the world actually!
Tokaido Shinkansen trains includes the 700 series, N700 series, and N700A series. The N700A train sets in this video are 16 cars each, can seat almost 1400 passengers, and are about a 1/4-mile long (400 meters)! This is the Shinkansen full speed!
This video talks about how to travel japan with a family, and how to ride Japanese trains with kids.
