I think, it’s 28. The difference between the two successive numbers is twice that of the previous difference. And each number in the series is the sum of the corresponding applicable difference and the previous number. So to calculate the queried next number in the series, the difference between this number and the previous number shall be 16 (as so far the differences had been, 1, 2, 4, and 8), and the previous number is 12. Adding 16 and 12 will result in 28- the desired number. Will you please elaborate as to how you reached your solution, being the number 36?
