good job on the video. Very basic and doesn't cover enough info but video quality and pace where perfect. For that alone I say good job.

Although what you're showing is technically acceptable, as an engineer for a large switch manufacturer, I would not settle on media converters. Only in the rare case of retro-fitting and existing network with older Ethernet-only hardware... But, chances are, if you're upgrading to 10G speeds, you'll need to replace the hardware at each end for higher throughput and PPS... Instead I would use switches that support SFP (1G) or SFP+ (10G) directly. I would use SFP+ Transceivers in my switches, and Multimode fiber cables, as a less expensive solution, since distance up to 500m are possible.. If you need longer than 500m, then consider Single-mode transceivers and fiber cables..

Nicely explained, as I discovered your channel again. I have to re-watch the part in this video about the transfer speeds. I am on a fiberglass provider network only to incoming rooter. I like to extend this to my system network with these Gigabit Ethernet Media Converters. These videos makes it easier to pick the cable on Amazon and how to configure this. My network is almost as advertise 1Gb and my system Motherboard and CPU are very capable to handle these speeds. Highly tweaked😊 Upgrade to 10Gb network card and switch to handle these higher speeds the best❓ Thkyou Charlesm

You can pick the switch with 10G uplink. I think it is better than 10G card. Otherwise you need PC computer to keep the card running. The single mode fiber optic cable can handle 10G speed. Also you need 10G SFP+ transceiver at both ends.

Is there much quality differences between SFP brands ?
@Fastcabling
@Fastcabling 14 күн бұрын
High-quality brands maintain consistent data rates, low latency, and stable performance, especially for long distances or high-speed links. However, matching the fiber type, range, and speed is more important to ensure your setup works efficiently.

@@Fastcabling Thank you. I will try to use the same brand for cable and hardware. Can you recommend an armored product that does not have an included power wire ?

@@Fastcabling This one seems suitable. I'm not sure of the connections however. : LC to LC Simplex Single-mode 1 Meter(3.28ft) Armored Fiber Optic Patch Cord.

Just the same as in the video. Here's the media converter kit used: www.fastcabling.com/product/gigabit-fiber-to-ethernet-media-converter-kit-lc-single-mode-fiber/ (diagram: media converter A - BiDi sfp module - LC to LC Simplex Single-mode 1 Meter(3.28ft) Armored Fiber Optic Patch Cord - BiDi sfp module - media converter B) For 1-meter runs, you can use Cat5e or Cat6 cables instead, as they can handle Gigabit speeds effectively over short distances (typically up to 100 meters for Gigabit Ethernet), and they're more durable.

Sodo i run fiber optic cable to each room in house, or just to router? Then ethernet to every room , or wifi from router?

Installing fiber optic cables throughout your house is expensive. You can use Ethernet or Wi-Fi depending on your home layout.

I am in the process of having a fiber optic internet installed in my home to replace my existing DSL (20 mps) setup. The system is not active yet but I don't understand how I can set up the wifi to all my devices once it is activated and I cancel my DSL plan. Will my devices automatically recognize the wifi or like with the DSL modem, Log each one on to the fiber optic modem with a specific modem number assigned to that modem. thanks in advance.

You’ll likely have a new Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password with the fiber modem. If you want to avoid manually reconnecting all your devices, change the new modem’s SSID and password to match your old DSL modem’s Wi-Fi settings. However, if you use the new default Wi-Fi settings, you’ll need to log each device onto the new network once.

I need help, I can’t find a simple explanation of my question anywhere. I have a pc that u stream and game on. Right now I use regular WiFi and connect my pc to my router with a lan cable. If I get fiber optic installed, will there still be a router like I have now? And will I be able to connect it to my pc the same way?

There is nothing change. You can consider the fiber optic cable plus media converters are replacing the UTP cat6 cable. It is transparent to the network.

It is the BiDi transciever that takes different wavelenght to transmit and receive the data. It reduces the fiber optic strands from two to one for single link.

I mean cat6 supports multigig, so theres really no reason to go fiber at home. Plus u still need PoE.
@Fastcabling
@Fastcabling 3 ай бұрын
For most home network setups, Cat6 cables would suffice.

I whould say that ftp filter to ethernet cable on 8 wires are not strong enough 2 fiber cables whould need more than fpt old routers are much faster than gaming computers or client servers routers looks like bad quality toys more direct looks faster good looking connectors look dangerous and expensive we need home routers with more direct connection copper condutivuty is not depending on voltage or data transfer like usb 3.2

You might consider the 10G media converters. It is pretty easy for the fiber optic cable to handle 10G network, but you need 10G media converter at both ends.

Hi will still work without using your Fiber termination box? i mean intead of using patch fiber cable, can I use that fiber optic cable directly to connect from both media converter? more power thanks in advance

It works. The termniation box only make the connection tidy. You can attach the cable to media converter directly.
