Wish this has been out a year ago before I shot my short, haha. Definitely hated taking off the adapter (Great Joy 1.33x) to swap taking lenses each time. Now to figure out a rail mount for that Great Joy.

That reverse technique where you instead slide out the camera to change lenses is new to me. Very nice alternative to evade anamorphic realignment.

same as oli, i prefer to move the cam when swapping lenses, not the scopes. each with its own advantages and downsides tho :)

I have never heard about jackets before... But I guess they could be an awful but cheap rehousing job? Will check for what sizes exists and if any of them would work for the thermal lens I need to put back together

What is the most practical and useful squeeze type for a FX3? it seems like a lesser squeeze would be better for and non open gate sensor? Curious what is your opinion 1.3 vs 1.6?

Any camera that can utilize its whole sensor shoots "open gate". It just means "full sensor". As most cameras crop for anamorphic and with modern cameras resolution is barely an issue, I'd vouch for choosing an anamorphic based on your desired image and not squeeze factor alone. What gives if you use more of the sensor, therefore more of the resolution, when you dislike the results?

@@LucasPfaff i hear you.. the FX3 is full frame, but not open gate. So bigger squeezes create a narrower image that needs to be cropped to fit standard cinema ratios. This defeats the purpose and degrades the video imho. So my question is for FX3 what is the best option? I understand much of this comes down to taste, but I don’t want to crop in and I don’t want super narrow strip of video.

@@timdanyo898 you have to crop an Alexa to get proper scope. You dislike that image too? Cropping doesn't degrade, it just cuts off. Less comfortable to work with I give you that, but in the end it doesn't really matter. So arguably, most anamorphics degrade the image in a way. It's also part of the aesthetic. So it would be crucial to know what exactly you dislike. But if you feel that cropping so much degrades the image too much, you already kinda have your answer. 1.5x would also be a way, which delivers more or less the same aspect ratio as 2x would do on 4:3. Personally, I wouldn't bother with 1.33x because it's just so little fun, not worth the hassle - but it comes down to what you actually like. I can only repeat myself, look at what you want in an image, and not at a number.

I shot a short on the FX3 last winter with Helios taking lenses and the Great Joy 1.33x anamorphic adapter. If I were to do it again I'd use a 1.5x for a better stretch and crop the sides to fit a 2:39:1 frame like @LucasPfaff said!
