The 22LR didn't dump it's energy IN the block, it pushed it's way through. 22MAG dumped it's energy int he block, with a much larger initial wound channel and still punched it's way through. I either case, ain't gonna be much left of that squirrel. I've seen videos of a guy taking down wild hogs with a 22lr right behind the eye, doing very little visible damage. Kinda looks like either of these would take the mounting option right out. But the rest of the video is him turning it into sausage and steaks so, Who needs another boar head on the mantle? Speakin of 22lr. I was up at the dollar store looking for a little house or something to put inside my punkin for Halloween. Didn't find what I was looking for but came up with a little jackolatern candle holder AND a Garden Gnome Together they'll be about 6-7 inches across and 6 high. It's a 60 pound punkin. BUT, they had silly string and shaving cream up by the door. I've seen ya shoot those but hadn't done it myself. Got my Heritage Rough Rider 22 and let her fly. Man, you breath on that trigger and it lets go, gauge says 2 lb. Better then my stinkin Rugers. So, surprised me BUT shot string and foam all over the place, a can each. Glad I didn't get the double sized shaving cream, Gotta hose that off tomorrow. Enjoy the videos, NOW I have to put the 22MAG cylinder on and see what the difference is!

I have the 22 mag cylinder for my rough rider. I had problems stabilizing the .22 mag bullet and the groups were enormous. I was using CCI Maximag or other hot loads. When I used less spicy rounds though the group shrank to normal size, just a heads up.

I tried those Eco speed .22LR in a semi auto, and don't recommend you try it. It didn't hurt the gun, but at the same time I had what felt like powder blasting back at me a couple of times and what at first seemed like a squib, but i think was a shell bursting around the base. They're a hot round, but for bolt action, lever or revolvers preferably.

Velocity times mass equals energy. Expansion determines damage. Edit : Try weighing the blocks before and after. I suspect the .22 mag removed more of the clay than the much lighter .22 lr. Slower and lighter would leave a smoother hole. The .22 mag was much more ragged than the lr, ergo much more clay returned to the soil from whence it came.
@stanpotter77648 сағат бұрын
No, velocity x velocity x mass = energy
@oldgandy5355Сағат бұрын
@@stanpotter7764 Actually, 1/2 the mass times velocity squared equals kinetic energy. The point I was making is that the heavier bullet at a higher speed has more energy and force than the light one, and that has no relationship to how many beers you drink and how much mushroom pizza you consume AFTER you come home from the range. Different formula.
@lynncox76012 сағат бұрын
The thing about clay blocks is that they show the temporary wound cavity. The mag round obviously did a ton more damage with the internal energy dump. Either or, I certainly wouldn't want to get hit by either at 15 yards. People underestimate the little .22's. They haven't been shot by them!

I think if you weighed the blocks before and after the shot you might get an idea of energy transfer. The lighter the block after the shot, the more energy the clay absorbed. The .22 mag block looked hollowed out and the.22LR block still looked mostly there.

.22WMR dumped energy right away, it likely opened up a lot. Many .22lr don't have enough energy to open much, this one had about half the energy of the WMR. They say 210J with 24gr bullet, I'd be interested if a .22lr with similar energy but heavier bullet looks any different. I mean high velocity and light bullet tend to penetrate more and dump less energy.

What about a fast 22mag against a fast 22lr !
@davidstuck286612 сағат бұрын
Well, IMO, it's not even close. The 22lr pushed a hole straight through that block. Which is pretty impressive. But the 22 WRM pushed the clay out towards the sides and top as well as pushing through the back. It would be interesting to see how the 17HRM fares against these two as well. The sad part is you would have to spend hundreds of dollars on clay to do a complete test between the 4 total (2- 17 caliber and 2-22 caliber) rimfire cartridges. and an exhaustive comparison would be insane. and you would have to include the 5mm rimfire as well. it would likely be a several thousand dollar and 3 week long test to test them all. I wouldn't want to ask anyone to do that. Pick one (or two), and be happy with it.
