To my knowledge, general racing in this game favors lighter and shorter cars rather than raw power. Though the 106, Corsa, and AE86 all seem to have power combined with being light as a feather.

Seeing the European exclusive Corsa and 106 being not too far behind the AE86 makes sense as they're all light, high revving, nimble cars with great cornering in this games specific handling model, if I were to remake this game I would include these cars as well as the American version exclusive Civic and RSX

​@@Zonda4748actually it doesn't become AWD Every car is kinda AWD in U2, just take the mustang, put some hydros to lock the camera and press the car against a wall, all 4 wheels will spin when you accelerate This was probably used for adjusting the physics engine, and EA tried to hide it

I made 1:14 time in 106 and Corsa with Stage 2 parts (without turbo, because i don't unlock yet in my career). I think this cars can make best times, principally in the big C. I make + 200 km/h in my Corsa in this part. This circuit have decisive parts as the (in order) the Crest: +160 km/h Long S: +220 km/h chicane before the Big C sector +150 km/h the BIG C: +200km/h last chicane: (i don't reach a good average, the best line to this sector is confuse for me. The low velocity in this part play with my brain to search patterns). Anyway... This is a good video. NFSU2 plays with the concept that stronger cars are better.

Yes after playing again I confirmed the RX7 was the OP speed runner car in UG1. In UG2 the OP speed runner car is now the Corolla GTS.

Good project. Did you avoid tuning to keep things simple? I noticed some cars had really bad gear ratios by default and tuning transformed them, while others were nigh on perfect on default.

Handling is everything. Besides handing all you need is enough power to get through the gears. Top speed means nothing on 95% of tracks. A higher top speed that you'll almost never see is useless when your opponent is taking every corner faster than you. Handling also allows you to keep your momentum, meaning you'll end up going faster on the straights between corners compared to a "faster" car that should be better on those straights. Handling is OP in almost every racing game.

Body parts are visual and they give you better performace, it's called aerodynamics. BTW I'm doing 1:18:xx in my stage 1 upgrade Corolla.

Given that I have the EU version, I never had the chance to test the Civic. But I found a way t get both the EU and US cars into the game. I will be retesting all the cars hopefully sometime in 2022.

Aside from drag the celica has pretty much carried me on my 75% playthrough of it, and undoubtedly has the best stats that I've seen in the game and honestly best handling so far, I've maxed upgraded and raced multiple different cars in custom races outside of story mode and the only thing coming close is the skyline

Yes Corolla is beast in Circuit, Sprint, Street X and URLs. I got 1.08.54 at my best in this track. Trying some different cars, I can only match it with Honda Civic. But for several laps, even Civic can't match Corolla. But Corolla is bad for Drag in my opinion. And I can't use it for drift even tho some people said it is good lol.

@@Marcy2200 My AE86 got a lap time of 1.06.92 without Nitro and 1.07.xx consistently... the only other car getting close is the 240sx, with a lap time of 1.07.46 and 1.08.xx consistently....Choosing proper lines are different and important for each car. I play on pc so I only use the Keyboard

@@th3sh4man86 OP is factually correct. Tuning refers to performance optimization (in NFSU 2 case the use of DYNO). Visual customization is just that. Yet the fact that spoilers, bumpers & body kits improve downforce is one thing and one can call it tuning, true (since at least they help a car's performance). Nevertheless, now we're taking about a car's paint job, and changing it doesn't mean you 'tuned' the car. P.S: And I think you meant 'damper' there. Damber means something completely different. Same with 'bumber' lol.

Cause they didn't think it would be the fastest, keep in mind that this game was made in 18 months with half the development team finishing the first Underground for first 6 or so, then repeated that schedule with Most Wanted, that's how they managed to release on a yearly basis, and why it eventually led to the series downfall Black Box were worked to death by EA

RSX and Civic are US version cars. They did testing on the EU version, hence the Peugeot 106 and Vauxhall Corsa.

you're wrong, 206 is the second fastest car in this game. of course you have the european version of the game that's why corsa and 106 is included, but in US version of the game 206 is the second fastest car, and that focus is not even close to it.

These tests are useless for career. Starting cars will obviously be the best, since they are able to pick up unique rewards from outruns. Aside from that, i guess that Hyundai Tiburon / Coupe or Toyota Celica will fit into the same category as well. Despite all this, there are multiple tracks made for different cars. Obviously, lightest cars, regardless of their power will be best for taking corners. This means that its probably best to just stick to starting cars, cause of their low weight due to how many tracks feature sharp turns in career. That would be the most practical solution. As for the tests done in this video, i can understand the need to rate cars in quick races, rather than career, but there are flaws in the tests. Biggest flaw is that this counts as a track, which is made for nimble cars. Heavies, especially SUV's did not stand a chance. Another problem is the choice of not tuning and no clear explanation if nitro is used or not. Its really simple in Underhround 2. Untuned cars with rear wheel drive will almost always outperform similar ones with AWD or FWD. There's just gonna be massive amount of understeer for nom FWD, AWD cars, which is evident in heavier Navigator losing to lighter and more powerful Escalade, or very similar Peugoet 106, Vauxhall Corsa losing to Toyota Carolla. I tested some of the longest maps with straight lines, losing against Vauxhall with my Hyundai everytime. Then i went to tune that Hyundai, adding a little oversteer for it to be able to take corners and bam, about 10 seconds shaved off, even faster than Vauxhall.

@@s0mthinisf1shy68 No, i have none, but i can gkve advice. First, for me, acceleration is most important thing, but there is such a thing like nitrous oxide. You can make the first gear to produce most speed. It sucks, when you crash and have to accelerate from 0, but you just press nitrous and you can hit that second gear in no time. Other thing is street X or if you don't have expenssive and useless nitrous at the start. You need first gear to at least have a grip in your wheels, so the power is not wasted. I think the first gear is one of the most important things to tune, because it dictates your top speed overall. For drag, i advice to obviously make the first gear as long as possible, maybe even the second one. You need that sweet top speed. Second idea is taking corners. You know how tight they can be. You need some kind of gear to be able to shift back to, lose speed, gain torque and be able tk take corners easily. So i guess the advice is to make your second gear to be able to have that ability to take corners, while hitting the rev limiter. If you set your first gear to have max speed, i think it can do the trick as well. For street X, some corners can be quite tricky, so try to find a gear for the tightest one. Even setting the first gear for the tightest corner can work. I know that engines produce the power at certain RPM, but trust me, it does not matter much until you hit high speeds. So the advice is to either set the last gears to easily reach top speeds, but have them lower, or to make them only reach top speeds with nitrous. You just have to experiment what kind of top speed you have on every map as average, or tune it for every single map if you want to be a tryhard. In my experience, save some time and limit the top speed slightly, so you could reach it with nitrous in no time. You can do that by finding out how much power your car makes at certain RPM and then setting the last gears to start being used, once you hit that sweetspot in RPM, when changing into them. Lastly, i would like to point out that even though i wrote that top speed is important to me, this game does not really need it. There are few maps, where you can actually reach it, the final boss map being one of them. Aside from that, i want my car to accelerste fast out of corners. If you notice that your car handles poorly and you crash too often, you need to make the top speed lower and acceleration from 0 faster.
