I bought a home that was heavily over planted and also had lots of buckthorn that was wildly overgrown. I have little kids so I didn't even want to let them out in the yard with 2" thorns sticking off these things. I had purchased a box of Oregon chains for my EGO 16" chainsaw and they worked fairly well until I caught rocks trying to trim everything as low as I could. I followed the sharpening guide on the Oregon hand sharpening kit I bought and it felt like I was using a butter knife. Finally, after about 5 months of not wanting to use the chainsaw, I ran into more poorly maintained trees that needed to go because of overcrowding. I saw a recent video of yours about using too small of a file to sharpen, so I stepped up the size to what felt like it would be too much. After about 10 minutes of sharpening, the chain was demolishing everything I touched. It was even sharper than out of the box. I just wanted to thank you for sharing your passion and knowledge with the world.

@@Orudos I live in Minnesota and also bought 31 acres completely choked out with buckthorn. I struggled until I found Buckin’ and his sharpening videos. I laugh at how I did things before….it is so much work! A dull or improperly sharpened chain makes it 10X worse. I pull as much as I can with my puller then cut and treat the rest. Removing unhealthy trees and replanting native trees like a madman. Sometimes it feels like watering the desert but in time I know I will win the battle.

Buckin talkin about the "inner top plate" angle for correct term. This IMO is THE most important angle, I mean there all important but the inner top plate has the most consequences.

The finished grind is ok a little room for change according to what u like & wood u cut but I bet it cuts nice. Cutters got lots betterer as video progressed. Grinders require good operators, Buckins got it. U cant just walk up to a Simington and get wonderful grinds, its takes knowledge, skill and experience on the grinder. But watching that blue Simmington wheel turn with ZERO runout was soothing to my soul, its quality kit.

Hey, BR. Love all your videos. I’ve watched your video that almost took you out mostly and send it to everyone I know. You are an awesome survivor. Great sharpening video. Now here’s my request. I’ve seen videos over and over on other channels on the Oregon powersharp, sharpening system. Problem is all use regular chains. They don’t know you have to use a powersharp chain, and has given that powersharp a bad review. That chain is made more like a chisel than teeth. I would like to see you do a review unless you have one already. In that case I must have missed it. Powersharp needs a fair review. Thanks.

Been hand filing for a long time and am really good at it... That being said in my opinion it depends on what your cutting weather or not square or round is better... I have found that in really hard woods like hickory hedge and oak round is better but in woods that are softer square is better

The working point has to hit first, the sprocket drives the chain in, the working point is pulled up off of the bar, the depth Guage pulls the chain back down and the chip is thrown out. The working point should be about 30 thou above the depth Guage.
