16:06 I'm guessing you've ridden quite the array of scooter chassis; over a hundred types minus duplicates as a wag. Do you have empirical tips on recovering from any type of death wobble or instability? When in doubt throttle out? On a motorcycle or dirt bike, it does have truth to it, shifting your weight and using the throttle to cut or add power. I theorize it changes the natural frequency of the steering group to get away from the death harmonic. My 2021 WWX is a stable unit cruising 35-40 mph, got hundreds of miles there. I got it because you all observed it was stable with that dual stem design and the physics of it, and I confirm your observations.
@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide
@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide 4 ай бұрын
When in doubt throttle out is a good approach, but you eventually have to slow down :-) It gives you a chance to slow down more gradually though. Also keep looking straight ahead (or wherever you want to go), stay loose and don’t panic! -Paul

Great review, Paul. It's quite the value all things considered. The boxy design, 2X2 front suspension and telescoping stem are definitely not the contemporary style but a lot of performance per dollar is gained for those who don't care about the milk crate between two wheels look. I've always thought Solar was a cool company but their designs just haven't spoken to me lately. Recently, I revisited the Solar FF Lite (2024 version) and thought wow! this seems to be a stand out on many levels with the improvements they've made. Besides being the best looking scooter in their line up (subjective of course) at 70lbs it's one of the lightest, C-type suspension, 40mph scooters available. It also has NFC cards, a hugely improved headlamp, all new display, a choice twist or thumb throttle (the trigger is gone) and a motorcycle grade horn, just to name a few. I remember that you did an unboxing of the 2023 model but then never did a full review. I know that sometimes that means it didn't make the grade at ESG but I'm not sure if that's the case or not. Regardless, the 2024 looks spectacular and is around $1700 with discount code. This puts it about $500 below the RS5 Max I just picked up, while not falling that far behind in performance. It seems like it might compete with the Roadrunner RS5 Max, Mantis King GT, VSETT-10 at a lower price and offer some more modern features. I sure would like to get ESG's thoughts if possible in a review. To my mind, the difference between the 2023 and 2024 FF Lite is even more significant than the differences between the first gen RS5 plus and 2nd gen RS5 Max.

Great analysis, as always! We definitely like the FF Lite, we just haven't been able to get back to it for a review. We usually do the scooters in order of popularity (according to the manufacturers). That way we hit the ones with the largest audience. But I keep eyeing the FF Lite! It's still here. I think we have two Solar scooters coming up in the next couple months. One is the new E-Clipse e-moto. The other is a scooter, but I'm not sure which one. -Paul
@Patriot36

@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide Thanks for your thoughts, as always! Yes, that would make sense regarding the popularity. I'll be eager to see the next Solar review because they've always piqued my interest, I've just never owned one. The 2024 FF Lite is right up my ally but I just purchased the RS5 Max recently and the GX3 seems to be available now. This means I'll have to plan the next move because I can't really afford both in quick succession due to the house rules... haha. :) Right now I'm leaning toward the FF Lite as the GX3 appears a bit more geared as an all-terrain scooter. The FF Lite seems like it would be a good riding companion to the RS5 Max, albeit with a a bit less range.

Try switching the master switch off with the alarm system armed. From previous experience it kills power directly from the battery rendering the immobilizer useless.

True, and good point! That’s actually something I like about the master switch since alarm systems can be a long-term drain on batteries. Most people won’t know there is a kill switch. tbh not getting an app is a huge bonus for me lol. So many of these "high performance" models have their best features locked behind phone apps that will be obsolete, inaccessible and not supported three years from now, and I'd hate to spend $3,000 on a scooter just to find that I can't make it go more than 20mph because the app that allowed you to unlock it no longer exists. Having everything working right out of the box is the way to go.

@Patriot36 3 ай бұрын
26:46 After absorbing this video a 2nd time, I don't mind the older styling and can tolerate the folding mechanism but that adjustable, telescoping stem design just has too much play in it for some of us. While not ideal, the clamp actually locks fairly solidly but it's the diameter of the tubing on the upper half. It just doesn't have the inherent rigidity that a full size, large diameter stem has... like their FF Lite for example. While they might be forced to use this design due to this model being offered with the seat option, they use the same system on their EQ and P1 3.0 which sort of abandons their stem flex sensitive riders. While I accept it on a low-mid performance scooter like the Emove Cruiser S, I can't adopt it on an all out sport scooter with all the loads at play. Solar does their homework, so I'm not saying it won't last, I'm just saying I don't like the flex and feel of the telescoping models. Lastly, it would be nice if Solar offered battery options that included LG or Samsung cells. I understand this would cost more but people like myself are willing to spend more up front to increase the reliability long term. I'm one of those people who always gets the LG or Samsung option and larger capacity battery when it's an option. There's literally no down side other than cost and often we're only talking a difference of 10-15%. In the example where the premium cells also offer more watt hours, I'd rather have the range and not use it rather than need the range and not have it. I wish more scooter companies would realize their enthusiast buyers... Apollo Go design team... I'm talking to you. :)

Weird question, but I'm not sure where to ask. Ive heard yall say on other videos to check the battery voltage rather than the percentage when determining if you are low battery. What number should I be looking for? Specifically for the Roadrunner pro and the Wolf King gt pro
@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide
@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide 4 ай бұрын
Great question! There are some good charts out there which break it down exactly, but I usually go with the fully charged voltage. For example on a 60V scooter I think the full charge voltage is around 68.8 (off the top of my head), so the nominal voltage of 60V is 50% and the cut off voltage will often be the same difference below that, so around 51V. Again these are just rough numbers I use while riding, but the voltage charts (we might still have one on the electric scooter guide site, or maybe it’s over at Rider Guide) will show you the exact numbers. -Paul

I would love the solar scooters, but there is no way to get them in austria, at least where i searched and asked. Mainly i would love them for their overall nice package of the P1 (non Pro...) and the optional mounted seat for long trips. But i found a theoretically (i dont need all the extra battery and power...) "better" deal with a Bluetran Lightning in its crazy 72V 35Ah config for "just" 2100€, slightly above the budget, but the battery size, range and speed/torque is crazy. All i need would be 20-30 km a day and im happy with 35-40 km/h max speed. But since any mediocre scooter is still too limited in hillclimbing and offroad due to "low power/torque", i will probably get a heavy 72V powerhouse from 2022/2023.

@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide
@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide 4 ай бұрын
Interesting, it wouldn’t have occurred to me to compare them because they are so different in price. The Klima is another level in terms of acceleration until you get up to the higher speeds where the P1-Pro wins. It also has shorter braking distance and is a little lighter (though not light) it has a bigger battery, but smaller (10”) tires. Head-to-head the Klima wins except for top speed, but it should at nearly $1k more. -Paul

OK, to be fair, the customer service was not totally useless. I live in S. Carolina and the laws regarding scooters are good if applied, except nobody at the dmv knows how to apply them. One of the steps the dmv asked of me was to bring in "manufactures certificate of origin" (to title and register the scooter) and Solar Motors, because they make an electric bike/motorcycle, Knew what the document was and (for a $20 fee) mailed the document to me.

You get what you pay for. What is the real expense that goes into scooters? The motors and battery system. Have you considered these ali scooters might get the chassis cheaply and then add cheaper built or underrated motors along with cheaper battery cells, cheaper bms, cheaper assembly of the module, cheaper finishing of the scooter wiring harness, cheaper inverter motor controllers. Not always true however true in a moral world: you get what you pay for.

I'm not about to run in the fastest mode and have to hold my finger, uncomfortably, in a weird way to maintain 20mph in the bike lane, rather than run around in the lowest power mode to do the same.

I’m always riding as fast as is practical and safe in city conditions. So on a scooter like this one that means I’m riding about the same speed as the cars with peak speeds of 27 to just over 30mph between stop signs, but also a lot of starts and stops, so my average speed ends up a lot lower than my peak speeds. -Paul

I want range and hill climbing abilities at lower speeds. Better off road riding. The scooters I need to purchase to do what I need are very aggressive, too fast for offroad.
