Hahahahaha Americans are so full of it when it comes to pride and what they did??!!! No, your facts are all wrong!!! It was designed and developed here in the sunny country of South Africa in a company called Denel. In the late 80's I use to stand outside the group looking at these helicopters being put through its paces!! SA then sold the plans and first prototype to Hughes Helicopters in the '90s. Really get facts straight

@@andrejansenvanrensburg7553 First of all, I'm not American, I don't even live anywhere close to the US. 😂 Second, I think you need to go back and do some research bud. Unlike you I don't get my information off a box of corn flakes, and have been in the aviation industry for over 30 years. I think your confusing the Denel Rooivalk (previously designated AH-2) with the AH-64 Apache. (I suppose to a amateur they look the same as they both have that big spinny thing on top) The Apache was developed in the early 70's as Hughes Helicopter model 77 for the US Army. It became the prototype YAH-64 and flown first on September 30th 1975. That's 15 years before the Denel Rooivalk. The Hughes YAH-64 was chosen over the Bell YAH-63 in 1976 for the US Army's attack helicopter program. The Denel AH-2 Rooivalk borrowed heavily from the Aerospatiale Alouette III and SA 330 Puma in areas of main engines/gearbox, main and tail rotors/gearbox, and didn't have it's first flight until 1990. These two aircraft are vastly different under the skin. And need I remind you that South Africa was under a arms embargo (UN security council resolution 418) That prevented the import/export of attack helicopters and other military equipment & intellectual materials because you lot are racist SOB's and treat people like crap due to the colour of their skin. So instead of acting like a prick, do some research before making ridiculous comments that just serve to showcase your stupidity.

The Cheyenne had stability issues it's entire trial and testing phases, not only that, it's was too big back then and now compared to what AH helicopters are. By the time it would have entered service, it would have already been outdated and outclassed by it's rivals not to mention would have been twice as expensive for less performance. It's top speed was 244Mph with no weapons load and 10 minutes of fuel.

Osprey are not helicopters. They are tiltrotors.
@rykhaven3331
@rykhaven3331 3 жыл бұрын
@@davidhoffman1278 They are helicopters AND turboprops that can transition - the refusal to classify them as either OR both by EASA has its roots in the Euros and Asians protecting their markets and forcing US companies to transfer technology. They've been pushing the "not a helicopter" AND "not fixed-wing turboprop" racket forever trying to pry the rights from Bell for more than 2 decades. Of course, it's not the name that matters, since it's just a legalese excuse - even if Bell offered a conventional helicopter rather than a "tilt-rotor", the Euros and Asians would STILL refuse certification. But seeing this farce "not a helicopter" poisoning the minds on the internet boils my blood. It's not about names; it's about capabilities - and the V-22 can do EVERYTHING a helicopter can do, only BETTER. THAT'S what's important. So YES, it DOES deserve to be on this list. You're telling me that the technological DEAD-END that is the Eurocopter X3 is anywhere comparable to the future of the V-22 and the Bell 609? Bell and the US Military have been researching and developing this technology for nearly 70 years - www.diseno-art.com/encyclopedia/strange_vehicles/bell_xv-3.html - taking huge risks, spending enormous resources, not to mention pilot lives in the risky venture of finding a way to bridge the gap between a helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft, vertical take-off heavy lift and capacity on the one hand, and range, altitude, and speed on the other. The V-22, its USAF and USN variants, and the Bell 609, finally made this safe and economic, and were ready to take the market - which caused both the Euros and domestic shakedown artists like like the Obama admin to shriek and stamp their feet. They froze Bell out of the European market, and the Obama admin and FAA leaned on Boeing - to say nothing about taking the Euros' kickbacks and bribes. Bell was forced to sell, leaving it with nothing - decades of work and risk and lives - and when they finally succeeded after all that, they had a PITTANCE to show for it. Meanwhile the Euros grab the crown jewels and get to profit in a "no-risk" environment of a captured market (kind of, their conceit would soon be exposed). Bankers have more ethics. The Asians and Europeans are famous for it - close the market while demanding the American market remain open to their Asian and European companies, then demand technology transfers through "joint ventures", then cut their American "partners" away in time to garner most of the profit for themselves. China, Europe, Britain, Japan, etc, it's the same story everywhere. If the Americans refuse to play ball (or God forbid, they retaliate), shriek louder with "Trade war!" Once Bell was out of the picture, AugustaWestland was outrageously overconfident - reminiscent of the arrogance the Concorde engineers after receiving transfers of Valkyrie design specs and test data in the 60s. They thought they knew how to import everything from avionics from their own helicopters to fabrication technology, tampering with Bell's fine-tuned design. The Euros soon discovered they couldn't even interpret the flight recorder data from the "AugustaWestland 609" (It's the Bell 609, the Euros contributed NOTHING to the project, except bureaucratic and public appropriation of the prototype, and their own engineering incompetence*). Big surprise that their tampering with a fine-tuned prototype only resulted in confusion without the Americans to hold their hands. It wasn't the accident (those are inevitable, and part of the process), it was their sudden realization that they had NO IDEA what they were doing, even importing dissimilar avionics, localized fabrication standards, lack of proper instrumentation, etc, they literally took the flight systems of one of their own helicopters and stuck it in the Bell 609, with NOT A CLUE of how to proceed after it inevitably crashed - Magical thinking at its best - it was laughable that these incompetents actually thought they'd somehow become aerospace geniuses by "localizing" and cloning American technology (It was like watching BAE dictating stealth design to ADP - even the Chinese are better than this) - meanwhile the actual geniuses are their "jettisoned" partners on other side of the Atlantic looking at this farce... Watching the Euros crawl back to Bell and reincorporating American engineering teams and industry was ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS! *The Euros hadn't realized they'd been mis-directed by NAA and Ascani on the full extent of the Valkyrie Project, from transonic flight data to software analysis to the maintenance logs demonstrating economic problems with Supersonic flight, etc. More to the point, while the Euros got their hands on a lot of "data", they lacked the context that was ultimately buried in Ascani's project team (so again, it had more to do with their own conceit than with any mis-direction by Americans). "Technology" and "engineering trees" are NOT "things" - they're "People". Short version: this context - these people from interactions and exchanges with Ascani and every person involved with the Valkyrie amongst the American aerospace industry - are what convinced Boeing to ultimately build the 747 jumbo jet, rather than the SST - an insight that was completely lost on the Euros in their childish euphoria when Mcnamara cancelled Ascani's request of a civilian Valkyrie in November of 1962. Within DAYS of that cancellation, the British and French pounced and signed their historic agreement to pool their resources to build the Concorde. With the leading experts on airliner-sized Supersonic flight (Ascani) out of the running, and thinking they knew everything the Americans knew, the Euros were confident they could eclipse the Americans. They were wrong - again. **throughout the entire 609 project, Bell's project team constantly played the role of having to "train your replacement" - knowing they would be dumped the moment the Euros felt they were capable of cloning the Bell 609 - not exactly a good atmosphere for a project manager or a fluid engineering culture of ideas (not that the Euros had any good ones to impart). Again, Asians and Euros don't seem to understand that "copying some else's work" is not the same as "doing the work"....in the same way that copying someone's tests in Highschool doesn't mean you understand the problems, let alone have the knowledge and ingenuity to solve new problems.

The Lynx took the World Speed Record for a conventional helicopter in the mid 1980s thanks to the BERP rotor technology developed jointly between the RAE and WHL. We used it in the EH101 and now in the Wildcat development of the Lynx. BERP was also the favoured rotor technology for the NH90 before the UK withdrew WHL from the projects. While BERP represents a high speed technology for conventional rotorcraft, the thrust (and lift) compounded aircraft together with the various tilts can go faster although you can question whether they fall into the same category as the conventional helicopter. Maybe they should be compared to the Harrier and F35.

Eurocopter is considered a hybrid, just like the Sikorsky X2, so comparing them to "normal" helis is not so fair at all.

It's not about names; it's about capabilities - and the V-22 can do EVERYTHING a helicopter can do, only BETTER. THAT'S what's important. So YES, it DOES deserve to be on this list. This guy is telling me that the technological DEAD-END that is the Eurocopter X3 is anywhere comparable to the future of the V-22 and the Bell 609?
@Deutsche_1
@Deutsche_1 3 жыл бұрын
@@rykhaven3331 comparisant is all about the same things but comparing an apple with a donout is not the same, so this guy tell youre wrong, because a airplane and a helicopter is still not the same even thou they both can fly.

odd ah-1z isn't on the list considering it goes 255mph top and 184 cruise
@sugathjayawardana4910

the reason why the helicopters speed is limited, the leading rotor blade tip exceed the sound speed at high cruising speeds. The rotor blade tips get damage at that speed barrier.

Someone needs to define the word helicopter - any machine with augmented thrust systems like propellers is a compound machine not a helicopter as such. The Lyxn holds the world redord for a helicopter - thats it.

you was wrong, dude. The fastest helicopter in the world is Eurocopter X3 with max speed at 487 km/h. Eurocopter X3 is the king of helicopter
@hoppy857h5

Except the eurocopter x3 was a hybrid and not a true helicopter as well as only 1 ever being built as an experiment. Hence why it's a non-FAI. The Sikorsky X-2 had the previous record at 290mph but is in the same category as the eurocopter x3 by being a hybrid and only a single one being built as an experiment. The lynx still has the fastest official record for a true helicopter (FAI approved) at 249.09mph which has been held by it since august 1986.

It would have gone faster if we had stayed in the programme and it had had the BERP rotor. UK forcing WHL to leave NH90 was a big mistake.

With turbo boost engaged, Airwolf exceeded Mach one, And could reach an operational ceiling of 100,000 feet 30.48km. If real this would’ve been One of the most bad ass aircraft ever built. alas it is always going to be in the realm of science fiction.
