Watching because I have never been to Palos Verdes but would like to.... I am not a roofer...but confused as the edge of the roof looks further down but the tiles look higher...I guess it is a trough or something lower down.

Very informative video. Are there any problems with retrofitting a tile roof with the booster tiles to give that better appearance from the street? Any danger in damaging the existing 1st row of tile?

Hi, how do you install these same S tiles like you are going to do the second row so that they are vertically aligned? thank you.

Hi thanks for watching the video typically you would not install a booster piece for Clay s tile. you would install a clay bird stop or metal eave riser in most cities. the booster piece is to raise the tile upward or to lift the tile piece so from the ground it looks even . other wise the 1st row will look like it is sagging downward or falling down. Specifically in the city of palos verdes estates in California you are required to install a booster piece. you are not allowed to install a bird stop piece or a piece of eave riser metal. the idea is that they want it to simulate a 2 piece Spanish tile roof. which has a double piece at the 1st row or what we call a booster piece. thanks for the question. cheer

Hi thanks for watching the video. At this point in time you have to install base paper underlayment. We installed a rubber modified roofing material over the modified TU 35 base underlayment. to answer your question I am pretty sure they used nothing most of the time. I ve been to Europe and looked carefully at some of the tile roof installs. on some of the installs they have no base paper underlayment to this day its amazing that the roofs don't leak. I guess they are the real roofers. Ha Ha

If the underlay is so important, what did they use hundreds of years ago when we didn’t have today’s advanced materials?

You Americans sure do it weird, In Australia we use pine battens, and run the tiles onto them.

Nice hammer holster :)

thanks I like putting my hammer in the side of the nail bag pouch. I know other guys may think that that is a rookie move, but for my job it is the safest place to put it. it doesn't ever get hung up on something or stuck in a ladder rung going down off the roof. or it doesn't bang off your knees when you are walking . putting hammer in traditional location on the side of the nail bag in the metal loop can be dangerous coming off a 2nd roof when going down a 2 story or single story ladder. the handle from the hammer can get stuck in the rung of the ladder as you go down the ladder. and if you are carrying something down thats heavy off the roof it can be scary to get the handle of the hammer stuck in the ladder rungs it can thrown you off balance. and you will eat dirt at the bottom of the ladder better safe in this instance

These guys did a job that more time was spent peeping in windows than putting the roof on. The guy with the glasses has a problem controlling his hormones when men take showers.
