I dont have enough refinement to grasp all your technique, what I can say is that she seems alive to me. Astonishing!

Thank you so much for posting this. Your work is magnificent. I’m an old retired bloke who has been working in watercolour up until now. I have just decided to venture into pastels and find it rather scary.

Thanks so much for the kind comment. It’s great that you want to try pastels . You should never be Leery of trying something new . Always think of it as a learning experience rather than something that must be a masterpiece. If you learned something it’s a win . Thanks again for watching

Lovely. I tried sanded paper, alas I was allergic to it, the fine particles irritated my hands. Im trying various other paper to see if one works well with this medium mix.

Hi I also use clairefontaine pastel mat which is a very good paper and is a smooth surface . This paper will work with this combination . It’s also easier to work with but doesn’t have the intensity of value or color but it still looks good. Thanks for the comment and for watching the video.

Is it correct to summarize the technique as: Use sanded paper. 1) Then lay down color with pastels. 2) Then apply a layer of white colored pencil over the pastel. 3) Then apply colored pencil colors over the layer of white colored pencil.

Hi Joseph ,that’s basically it but remember that nothing goes exactly as planned and you may have to alter things on those occasions. On the paper you can also use Clairefontaine pastel mat it’s a smooth surface . I hope that helps

Your talent shows many, many hours of study. This video, however, assumes a level of skill with pastels. For most pencil artists willing to spend $9 a sheet and $150 - $250 for a set of soft pastels, is curious. Start with pastel pencils, and give a lesson on Strathmore 400 paper . IMHO. Thank you for posting.
