Amazing you posted this today, I've recently discovered this for my own IBS - I used to stress so much about my breakfast and whether or not it would trigger IBS at work, while trying to continue to eat properly through the day. Often a flare up would last 3-4 days. I recently moved all my eating to the afternoon/evening and I haven't had a flare up in weeks. Struggled with these symptoms for 15 years so far, but I have to say the biggest help has been cutting out caffeine completely, and increasing my fasting window to give my gut a chance to recover.

It takes up to 72 hours to digest your food. I think the mayo clinic says it’s about 52 hours or so. So the gas producing food you ate days ago are still churning in your gut. The food first goes to your stomach and small intestine, it takes hours before it even reaches your colon. It is down there for many hours if not days. So fasting for 52 to 72 hours or so probably will give you a chance to clean everything out. I don’t think 6 to 7 hours will have much of an effect.

That's great. I hd a good experience with intermittent fasting a while back, and the positive effects lasted roughly two years. My diet was then, and again is, very simple. I think I started eating things that caused new problems, so definitely keep an eye on trigger foods. I ended up losing a lot of weight I did not intend, so fasting no longer helped me in that state. Luckily, I've since reversed that to where I would consider trying some fasting again. Watch those triggers.

I have been following Dr. G for 4 years now and been on a vegan diet for 5 years, wfpb for 2 years and my ibs symptoms did not improve much, in fact I started having more frequent bathroom visits with soft/watery outcomes. I am bloated most of the time which is frustrating. Out of this frustration I have went out of bounds and tried a vegan keto/candida diet without fasting. After few days I noticed a drastic change, no bloat, solid "outcomes" full month of the diet gave almost 1 year of no bloat and GI issues. I have been back on the wfpb diet for months now and I'm experiencing bloat, loose frequent "outcomes" all over again. As much as I would love to believe that dr. G is right, its frustrating that my body disagrees. There is so much mixed information about the high carb, low fat vs low carb, high fat diet that I don't know which is right anymore....plus all these keto MDs go so deep into science and biochemistry while wfpb mds just quote questionable studies... -_-
@dennism.51452 жыл бұрын
That candida diet sounds interesting, but eating vegan is causing problems for me. Everything containing lactose or more than tiny amounts of fructose gets me bloated. How are you supposed to eat healthy when all the greens and fruits cause bloating? And where to get enough calories and protein from for muscle building? Well... I tried a keto diet for a year and there was almost no bloating. On the flipside I was constantly constipated with gut ripping toilet sessions every 10 days. Will try water fasting for 10 days next. Maybe it'll give my gut bacteria a chance to get into a state where I can digest anything without problems.

Sounds like something I went through myself! Have you ever thought it might be diet itself that is the problem? I can’t believe I was so invested in it.. cutting down on carbs is a great way to go, but the extremes we go to… borderline eating disorder stuff

@@dennism.5145 Keto diet should never be long term because it also interferes with nerves and can result in damage to nervous system. Vegan does not include lactose as that is found in dairy foods. All products in the supermarket that contain fructose should not be consumed as the synthetic version added to products is harmful for the liver. If you have any fructose it should only be in the fruit and thats it. Sugar has fructose and glucose so avoid sugar also.

But it does make common sense to fast. IBS is - in layman's terms - not that different from sensitive skin. Anyone who deals with that, knows that 'leaving it alone' helps with the inflammation. Food comes into the bowls with acid included. This is great for digestion, but not that good for sensitive skin (aka the bowl-tissue) that's already inflamed.

Reduce or eliminate cows milk, eggs, cheese and meat. Eat more salad greens, beans, fruit and vegetables.Eliminate fast food and sugary drinks and juices. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Regular exercise will help you sleep better. Yoga is a great stress reducer. Obesity is all too common today. Get off the couch. Get off the phone, ipad or video game. A variety of stretching and other exercises help with increased mobility. Ride to work, ride to school, ride for fun. Every city should be a bicycle city. There are higher rates of Celiac generally and also atypically presenting Celiac is much increased. The rate of eosinophilic esophagitis is also increasing, as is the rate of food allergy. Overall, increased rates of immune system dysfunction. Human body temperature has decreased since the Industrial Revolution - indicating major change in immune homeostasis. Possible causes: gut microbiome changes, decreased infectious disease burden - esp. parasitic infection (including intestinal parasites and ectoparasites (bedbugs, lice, etc.)), increased exposure to industrial pollutants (esp. air pollution), and artificial light exposure.

Even though fasting may improve symptoms in some people, it can also cause inadequate food intake, which can cause people to lose weight and/or constipated. Constipation can cause further gut problems, a loss off appetite, and even more weight loss. So it's definitely not safe for slim people who could become underweight. It makes more sense to exclude the things most likely to be causing the issues, eat a diet with a small number of ingredients, but in high volumes with adequate calories, and rotate them ot start adding more ingredients to figure out which are problematic. For me, excluding animal products, avoiding alcohol and eating little or no added salt was enough, while eating enough food and enough fibre.
