The fans coming on when AC is turned on is NOT for a "failsafe". It is to draw air through & cool down the condensor mounted on front of the radiator. The AC wont work if the condesor temps/pressures ate too high!
@FastMonty5 ай бұрын
Agreed. Poor choice of words on my part. Point being, I turned the A/C on to test the fans, then turned it off for the engine to heat up. Thanks.

Any idea if the electric fans have a soft start or do they just come on full blast? I am looking at doing a new setup. Thanks for all the great video's.
@FastMonty11 күн бұрын
Hey Gene, good question... they are brushed fans. All brushed fans come on at full speed, which in turn, creates one heck of an inrush current. There might be a company that makes a Brush fan Controller, that utilizes soft start. That said, and ironically, I'll be doing a video on Brushless Fans in the near future. (Hopefully within the next few months) Brushless Fans are the next level, and found in modern cars. They have a soft start, AND can maintain an engine temperature by fluctuating the RPM. At max current they can also turn at a higher RPM. The downside? They're EXPENSIVE. Be sure to check out my SPAL fan upgrade to this ColdCase radiator. (FYI, I'm going to be making shrouds too cuz you can't buy the shroud only from ColdCase, which I said you could in the video) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKCoqaN7mNp0ga8si=2pqGEom397mrmQ7h Thanks for watching!

Thanks for sharing more info does each radiator hold the same amount of coolent the B cool tank looks smaller
@FastMonty2 жыл бұрын
Great question Steven, I do some air volume comparisons in Part 2. (Where the Cold Case is much larger) But, the liquid volume between the two are really close, just comparing the side tanks, the Be Cool radiator has 12 more ounces. yeah, just 12. But, the tube volume is larger on the Cold Case, hence I think they're really close to the same. We'll see if I have any coolant left over, when I fill it back up. :) Both have much larger liquid volume than a stock radiator. Thanks for the awesome question!

Mike fan blades also impact how good the cfm is. Straight blade has more cfm but has high noise level. So not all fans are the same just because blade design. Trap doors on the old set up has its advantages also be t your old set up really needed a fix

Great point about the blades... wasn't really what I was focused on, ha, ha... thanks for the comment!

Mike what would be the clearance between the radiator surface and the fan shroud. Need to make mine from scratch
@FastMonty Жыл бұрын
Hey Craig, sorry for the wait... I was out of town, and needed to measure it. Anyway, it's about 11/16" from the radiator fins, to the shroud. Hope that helps!

Hi mike Twin fan install coming up . Now can I put the fans in a diagonal?? Reason being I have Intercooler hoses / clearance issues . So I was thinking of putting the fan lower down on the right hand side .
@FastMonty Жыл бұрын
Hey Craig... it all depends on the fan shroud. I don't know what the Firebird options are... but, if the fan shroud covers correctly, it doesn't matter where each fan mounts... if that makes sense? Just be sure to watch my CFM videos too. :)

Yes my GTO will be running twin 14spals pumps up my cfm by around 1000 . So cooling should be faster with better fans and a good shoud

@AB-80X Жыл бұрын
Get a shroud for diagonal mounting. That's all it takes. If you can't fab it up yourself, most radiator companies can do it for you, or just do a radiator that fits your need.
@musclebone78752 жыл бұрын
What were you operating temperatures before you installed the cold case radiator?
@FastMonty2 жыл бұрын
Good question... it would hover around 195 200. That's with a 165 t stat. I'd love to see a 190 t Stat manage the temperature instead of the fans, if that makes sense.

My 65 GTO has a cold case radiator with one fan and I added air to the car. Seems to cool it great so far. I have a 463 stroker. I don't understand why later model cars seem to require more cooling? My 76 TA 460 (455 .030 over) required a full 4 core and still didn't cool as well as the 65. Anyone have an explanation?
@FastMonty2 жыл бұрын
Great to hear your Cold Case 65 is doing great... I explain the 4 core issue in part 2. In summary. You need a cold case for that one too. :) Thanks for the comment!
@AB-80X Жыл бұрын
If you have a four core radiator and that struggles, something is off. Yes, our Trans Am's kinda suck when it comes to cooling airflow, but that's a big radiator. Let's just get the stupid question out of the way. Your cooling lines are installed correctly, right? Good. The other is the water pump. Big radiators hold a lot of water, and sometimes if the cooling pump is not big enough, it does not circulate water through the radiator properly. Don't ask me why that is, this is just something I was told by Griffin about a decade ago. I had an N/A 565 in my '73 and got a big radiator, after which it ran hotter. Got a nice Meziere water pump and all was fine. Now my engine in my '77 is a blown 582 which likes to run hot, and what fixed that was a Delta PAG radiator with a pair of their 14" brushless fans. Give them a call. Their fans and a brushless water pump might be what you need.
