My SIL passed away at 32. She was 400+lbs. she said she was healthy. Her autopsy showed cause of death was sequela of morbid obesity. She died because she was fat. If these people don’t have health problems at this moment they will very soon. The human body can’t handle all the extra fat around the organs. I guarantee if the people in these videos trying to promote obesity had a fairy godmother show up and say I can instantly make you thin they would do it in a heartbeat. They don’t really love their fat bodies. They are just trying to convince themselves they do.

The pro-obesity brigade reminds me of the pro-anorexia brigade. I wonder if any of the pro-obesity groups or celebrities are getting any funding from the junk food industry. The pro-obesity agenda certainly supports sales of McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Cholesterol, Pop Tarts, Mountain Dew, Milk Duds, Cheetos, Doritos, Skittles, and Little Debbie snack cakes. The tobacco industry funded smokers' rights groups, which lobbied against tobacco taxes and bans on smoking in airplanes, stores, restaurants, and other places. Having to pay more to smoke encouraged people to escape from the prison of nicotine addiction or avoid getting snared in the first place. The same was also true for making it more inconvenient to find a place to smoke.

Someone who looks healthy can indeed be unhealthy. But if you already look unhealthy and it's visibly painful to even walk a few steps, there's no discussion to have. Jordan is one of the more frustrating ones I have seen. They recently complained about seeing TWENTY (20!!!!) doctors in the last two years who apparently didn’t tell them what they wanted to hear, which means they are all “fatphobic” and discriminating against them. Jordan comes from a VERY wealthy family and old money. The privilege to be able to see almost two dozen doctors while people are dying because they can’t afford necessary medicine or are terrified to call an ambulance because of the cost. Beyond tone deaf to try to claim oppression when they’re able to see more doctors in one year than many Americans will see in a lifetime.

So tired of the "you can't tell that they're unhealthy!!" argument, it's the equivalent of putting their fingers in their ears and going "la la la la". Find me a super obese person who doesn't have some form of health issue, on top of the issue that caused them to eat as much as they have. Skinny and fit people having health problems doesn't prove anything and bringing that up is just them saying words. It has no meaning. Being so wrong yet so confident is too common online, too many people talking out of their ass and too many people eating it up because they are simply that stupid. In nursing school, when we perform physical examinations, the FIRST thing we do is inspection. We look to see any noticeable signs of abnormalities. You pretty much hit it on the nail that we can see stuff like cyanosis, jaundice, rashes, etc. We CAN determine someone’s health by looking at them to a certain extent, but this seems to get lost within the fat acceptance community. If you’re so large that you’re growing yeast colonies in your folds, that is one hell of an issue. I am obese myself, but losing weight (almost 70 lbs down so far, 50 to go!) and I can confidently say that anyone that large will have health and MOBILITY issues if they do not already - Jordan makes almost all her videos from her car in NYC, an extremely walkable city with robust public transit but i would be shocked if she could fit through the turnstiles let alone bring herself up and down the stairs. It is just sad imo to encourage other people to eat what they want and that it doesn't matter if youre extremely obese. If you want to destroy your own future, fine, but don't encourage other people to as well.

She just hit 40 and is not doing well at all. I know you can't make too many changes at once. She drinks 5 Big Gulps a day of soda. I asked her to cut out 1 Big Gulp. We're drinking water in the morning instead. & we're going on a 5-minute walk every day. She really didn't want to do that. She told me no. She wanted the magic pill, or the one piece of food that would do all the work. I told her she has to do the work, so I'll be there when she's ready. & this attitude and mindset aren't only with her. It's with a lot of these people. Another woman was asking for advice, claiming that healthy foods are too expensive & take too much time to cook. I once again, recommended just swapping out soda for water. There's no time exchange and you'd actually be saving money. Then she blew up about how that was not going to do anything (meaning she saw no health benefits) but make her miserable. Sure, but soda is like poison, so your body is going to react to it as if it's poison. A slow poison.

I am that example that she gave of people gaining large amounts of weight rapidly by taking numerous medications that cause weight gain for the first time and having genetic/health factors that make you gain weight (PCOS and thyroid). But despite the psyciatric and physical health medications, and birth control and even a disability that prevents me from doing exercise outside the home or standing aerobics, I stopped making up excuses and took personal responsibility to change my life and habits forever. I've lost 70lbs just this year. People don't need coddling and to be lued to about being healthy even if they are morbidly obese. I might not have had any health issues YET because of my weight but I was putting pressure on my joints. Health is multifactorial, and as someone with a hidden disability (not weight related) I know how frustrating it can be when people make health assumptions. However, with extreme weights at either end, it's safe to assume the person is unhealthy.

Thank you! I feel like a lot of us are missing the point. While there's absolutely a conversation that needs to be had about being obese and the health risks of that, a fat person simply modeling for an ad is not inherently making any claims about health. Unless I'm missing some text on the ad or something I don't think that they were trying to make any statements on health, they were just there to model. So I think we've all gone quite off topic, although I do think this conversation should be had in the proper contexts. If a disabled person was pictured in an ad sitting in their wheelchair, unless the ad was specifically about health than their health is irrelevant, they're just there to model and they just happen to be disabled and in a wheelchair.

My whole adult life I suffered with such bad fatigue and in just one month my energy has skyrocketed and I've lost weight. If only these obese people had the discipline to make healthy changes like that, they wouldn't have to expect the whole world to conform to their weight - they'd be able to fit in an airplane seat, the MRI table, etc without blaming us for their problem and making angry excuses as to why they can't lose weight. They need to address that they have an addiction and work at overcoming it. I know people who have a lot of health issues. You can often tell based on things like looks or even smell (my mom, for example, distinctly remembers how her uncle smelled like a rotting corpse when he had AIDs). My cousin has a lot of health problems. You can tell things like he's thin and has a strange pallor. He does not look like a healthy adult male. People who smoke often smell or have leathery skin and gravelly voices. Etc. I have no idea why they're incapable of telling when someone seems unhealthy. That just seems disingenuous to me. You very often CAN tell that something's wrong. Not always, but we're built to avoid things like illnesses, and so it's basic survival for us to pinpoint these things. Someone who is obese is ill, period. It's very easy for people to see. We know how bad all that fat is for the body. We know how bad it is for your internal organs/joints/heart/etc. Many of us know people with weight-related diabetes, or who have had a stroke, or have a mountain of medications they have to take for all their problems. The issue isn't that we hate these people. My dad is obese, and I hope he can successfully lose the weight (though I think he tries to diet too intensely and then ends up unable to continue the diet without cheating). But he never says that his extra weight is good for him. He knows it's bad. We know it's bad. I see all the health issues he has. It's obvious the issues, the many, many issues that come with being obese. "I don't have diabetes yet" is not the epitome of good health. It's usually that they're young and it hasn't caught up to them yet, but everyone can clearly see that it will if they don't change. That fat isn't going to suddenly be nutritious for their body. It's going to be a weight destroying every part of them, inside and out, slowly. The fact that sometimes people are sick and you can't tell doesn't mean anything. "That person over there looks healthy but is sick" =/= "Being 400lbs isn't sickly." They're completely unrelated.

I took a deep dive on this subject and it seems that some in the fat acceptance community have gone off the rails. Shaming others in the “community” for not being fat enough or not having fat friends. It’s weird to me that people who want acceptance at every size would think like this. She made the point in the TIK TOK that gaining weight can help people’s health. So can losing 20 pounds! It can reverse the severity of diabetes, liver issues, cholesterol, and even heart issues. I don’t want anyone to think they are just stuck and try not to fix their health issues. Also, I believe some won’t lose weight (who may need to for health) because they don’t want to be shamed by the fat acceptance community they are part of! People like communities and feeling part of something bigger! But It’s getting real bizarre out there in Tik Tok land. What is the point with fat, well, its something adapted over 1000's of years, when we eat sugar, dopamine is released telling us to eat more, and more and more, "sugar reward system", the energy we dont use right now, is stored as fat for later use.. That way we didnt die when we for longer periodes couldnt find food.. Today we never burn the extra fat stored for later, because we never have long periodes with no access to food.. Some people's "sugar reward system" is better then others, so some people have more sugar cravings then others, and some people get more energy from the same food as others.. thats why people are not the same, some can eat and eat and dont get fat, others get fat very easy because their brain scream for sugar.. this is ofc a simple way to explain, and there are tons of other factors also.. but the main point is that the survival mechanism that used to save people, is now killing people.. So in short, almost no fat person has a broken body/system, their body on the other hand works very good, almost no fat person cant lose weight if they do it right... but for most fat people, and i speak really fat, BMI 45+ they have to quit all candy, all cake, all fast food and all sugar drinks, and for life.. this is of cause hard, but not at all impossible, and after only 14 days, sugar cravings are almost gone.. you still have to fight many things and it takes alot to fight the mind, the first 2-3 month are the worst, but after that, fruits will give you just as good a feeling as sugar used to.. you can lose weight sitting still this way, no need for any hard work, but ofc walking and things help.. Edit: I did write this before i even saw the video, i am just so sad how thing are going in the world.. I lost 43kg from 142 to 99kg in like 8 month, and still going down, and even i am still too fat, i feel so much better in so many ways.. i quit candy and all that, and i would never go back to the size i was no matter if its healthy or not.. First now i see the channel name, and i remember that you, i think, is the one who lost 200lbs or something wild.. so amazing work.. ill sub right away :) - back to the video lol :D

"....but skinny people also deal with chronic conditions." Here's the truth. Yes, chronic conditions can affect anyone, regardless of weight. However, there's more to it than that. Being at a healthy weight can vastly improve your symptoms. I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. My collagen production is screwed up, regardless of my weight. I will always have problems with my joints. BUT... I can say with absolute certainty that being 360 lbs did not help my condition or my joints. Losing appx 200 lbs and keeping it off DID. I get that I will always have this condition, but it's not an excuse to not take care of myself. This is the part that always drives me insane. It's like people who get emphysema from smoking... and still continue to smoke. Like, I understand quitting smoking won't cure your condition, but why would you purposefully make it worse for yourself??? And then blame others for it???? I guess my perspective is completely different from these individuals. My grandpa was blind, and he taught me so much about doing all you can with what you have. It's true, we are all not dealt the same hand at life. But, it's up to you to play the hand as best you can, regardless of what you were dealt. It's sad seeing so many people rush to be a victim... mostly of their own doing 🤷‍♀️

What bothers me is that even without the science and studies (since ancient Egypt as well) proving that obesity is unhealthy. You would feel unhealthy in many ways, and down right know you'll have limitations and medical problems. Not because of "discrimination". I went from a healthy bmi, fit and healthy to an overweight bmi, unfit and ate too much, including junk food back when I was 20 - 21. I was aware of the feeling and knew I needed to do something about it before it gets worse, so I did, best decision I made. Just being overweight felt unhealthy and I can't imagine what it'll be like being obese.

Antidepressants definitely can contribute to weight gain... it happened to me. But they don't just magically make you fat. The majority of it is because they fuck with your appetite and make it way harder to stay in a deficit. In my case the med I was on also made me less motivated to work out. I only realized how badly zoloft was affecting my appetite and energy AFTER I switched to vilazadone and my appetite regulated again and I started going back to the gym. No meds isn't really an option for me right now with my current mental health but switching to a new med can help.

Yeah I mean modeling is literally selling your likeness and appearance, which there's nothing wrong with. People are also going to make comments and observations about that, because they are being marketed to using images of yourself that you have decided to sell. If someone's job is totally unrelated to what they look like, then nobody should be commenting on their appearance because it's rude as hell, but when your appearance is your job, then receiving public feedback on work that you know is meant for the public? Like I don't understand how anyone could think that's not a part of the deal. Also like if you're modeling, and happy with yourself, and getting consistent work, then who cares if some random on the internet doesn't think you're beautiful?

if you can see their bones they are clearly unhealthy, if someone is so overweight they cannot walk they are unhealthy. how someone looks is a pretty accurate way of determining their physical health

As someone at a healthy weight but who eats like crap, I can confirm there are other aspects of my appearance that give away my lack of great health habits; dull skin and hair, acne, circles under my eyes, etc.

The depths of delusion these people are in is quite impressive. You have to really be detached from reality to believe that weighing 500 pounds is a-okay!

I agree with you and really don't have much to add. You touched on it all. Agreeing here and there when points she made make sense but calling out the obvious nonsense.

I currently have the vid and am binging on YT. When I look in the mirror I look like an extra in 28 Days Later. The human eye is keen to pick up on signs of sickness/health. It's a survival mechanism that has developed over thousands of years of evolution. Is it 100 percent accurate? Of course not. Nothing is. Please remember these are the same people who tell us that exercise and diet aren't a determining factor in weight loss/health. They want you to think genetics is the primary component of obesity (apparently this 'gene' just manifested itself recently about the same time as the propagation of ultra processed foods around the world. Look at pictures from the 1920s, 1930s, or 1950s). They constantly misdirect and confuse. Accountability is a dirty word to them.

Yes but there are also plenty of people on TikTok spreading super toxic false information and telling people to just give up and be big and also saying that they are glorifying obesity they flat out say those words That's where it needs to end. And this woman got so offended and like you said models of all sizes have gotten ridiculed forever since the dawn of time You're never good enough so if you're going to put yourself out there that comes with the territory of being a public figure

Blaming "discrimination" is another way of removing agency. You eat 10 cupcakes a day doesn't matter if your doctor is prejudiced against fat people.
