I was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis around Xmas, not my fault. I walk twice a day with a weighted pack on because it is my body and nobody else was responsible for me to overcome my disease and be able to put my cane away in the closet. Life throws things at us, we use what we have to respond and improve our situation...or we don't and we complain from a bed we can't get out of.

I also had an MG diagnosis…but we’re still not 100% sure what went on as I had all the symptoms but tests were negative inconclusive….currently my muscles at 85-90% or where I would like them, and I intend to work to keep them that way if not improve a bit!

@@MusikGirl23 I was seronegative too! I eventually got sent to Duke and the single fiber nerve tests were clear but all the other tests kept coming back negative. It was a crazy time as I'd gone mostly blind, couldn't stand most of the time etc. but there was a bit of doubt from the docs. Honestly I didn't care what was wrong, I know how to train to improve so I just decided I was going to try and train my way back into walking and being able to drive a car. I kept hearing from people on the forums how they avoided exercise and were getting worse. Some of their issues sounded like typical inactivity issues just getting added on top of MG stuff. I don't need a heart attack and diabetes with my side of cane either, lol. Hope you keep beating ur MG!

I had a coworker who loved to say “not my fault, still my problem” and hearing that changed the way I think about things. Of course there will be things that are beyond our ability to change, but it’s up to us and only us to make what choices we can to keep ourselves healthy.

“Body positivity” movement was so detrimental for me. And now I struggle with high blood pressure and constant pain because at one point I truly believed there wouldn’t be any consequences for eating everything I wanted and not exercising. I was so desperate to just love myself and it was easier to love being obese than it was to actually work on it. I deleted all social media and will never look back. I want to live a long time and I don’t love being fat or unhealthy. Doesn’t mean I hate myself.

Poverty definitely effects it. The thing I'm uncomfortable with is the attacking/shaming of 'restrictive EDs' or the accusatory nature of pointing them out, as though they are a moral failing, combined with saying anything towards fat folk is ableism. I have been forced out of disability spaces and called privileged by people who couldn't hear about my upbringing or experiences of discrimination/disability abuse without saying I was 'trauma dumping' or 'triggering' them. They force themselves into the spaces for vulnerable people and we have to shut up about our experiences and be presumed privileged.

It is so interesting how "underprivilaged" means something so different in the US than in my home country. I grew up poor and because of that I never had junk food or sweets as a child. Fruits and vegetables are the easiest thing to get when you are poor in my hometown. Only the rich kids could buy chips and so on. We had no fastfood chains in my hometown, no McDonald's. We had a 0lace you could get hotdogs at but it was soooo expensive. Restaurants served traditional foods, normal portions. If I tell someone from the West that I did not eat sweets or junk food growing up they either think my family was rich or that my mom was this crazy diet lady who wanted me to be skinny. Both of which are false. My grandma had a garden and chickens. Growing up my favorite food was salad haha. When I visited family in Sweden they couldn't understand how a child could love vegetables this much and how I never asked them to buy me chocolate or chips.
@netteloveszebras

My mom had a similar perspective on vegetarians. In her home country, only poor people can’t afford to eat meat, and to openly claim vegetarianism is like announcing that you’re poor. Here it tends to be more well-off people who go into plant based and vegetarian diets.

Yes, in the US, the government has subsidized corn, wheat, sugar and soy to the detriment of almost every other crop. That and having an almost completely unregulated processed food corporations monopolizing our food supply has created a country where high calorie, low nutrient, highly processed crud food is way cheaper than actual food. It’s really insane.

@@KG9551 Also, there are what's called "food deserts", where in underprivileged neighborhoods you can't find a grocery store that sells fruit and veggies or any healthier options....alternatively, these are the poor neighborhoods and the people who live there couldn't afford the price of food that is better for them. The calorie-free syrup used to sweeten drinks or making unique drinks with interesting combinations isn’t a big deal at all. I don't mind people thinking I'm shallow for wanting to lose weight. I rather be thought of as shallow than dying before I'm 50 from a stroke because of hypertension which I developed because of my morbid obesity--I've lost 80 lbs in the last 7 months and have reversed hypertension and have gone off my medication. To be honest, while wanting to look more esthetically pleasing is a part of it, my biggest reason to lose weight, and why I even started to do it and started working out, was that I want to join the merchant marines, and I need to be in better shape for the training--which I previously failed out of because of my weight--Technically they will take me at any weight, they took me in at 293 lbs three years ago, but didn't have the strength or stamina to make it through the course. The second reason for wanting to lose weight for me is that I'm tired of feeling sick and tired, and depressed... and then of course, like I said, I just wanna look good, and wear nicer clothes... nothing wrong with that. Why is my happiness, and the happiness of people doing what I'm doing, or want to do, so triggering for the members of the body positivity community? They should mind their own damn business and think of their own happiness and leave other people alone to their happiness.

It’s a sad society we live in where this behavior is rewarded. There is a market for dieticians or doctors that will play along with these people gaslighting themselves into thinking they’re healthy and therefore there’s nothing stopping them from filling that market outside of their own moral compass. And unfortunately to many, money is more important than morals.

Even in my 20s and working shit service industry jobs, the components of a healthy diet just werent accessible and i often relied on food at work to eat, which anyone who has worked in restaurants knows, isnt always the healthiest. But that didnt stop me from taking the time to learn as my circumstances got better.

The thing with "watertok" is that they aren't simply adding some flavoring. That I would still classify as water. Like a Crystal Light or a good squirt of Mio. They add so much stuff that there's no way it isn't just as bad for you as soda and has no business being called water. Zero calorie doesn't mean healthy, and it often doesnt even actually mean zero calorie. It can be under 5 calories per serving, I believe, and be labeled "zero calories."

This is the comment! A squirt or two of Mio is worlds different from 15 pumps of colored syrup in a cup. At the rate most of the water tok girlies are going they might as well shake a diet soda and let it sit til its flat cause that basically what they're drinking.

Yeah I’ve seen her spread some misinformation and omit information when discussing things. Like in this vid she talks about fat acceptance originally bringing light to the unfair treatment of fat people but omits the fact that the organization that did that was also majorly into fetishing fat people and feederism. In fact the normal weight/thin guys were only really advocating for fat women cuz they hated feeling ashamed of loving fat woman and wanted their fetish to be normalized. One guy even compared loving fat women to being gay in that he felt super discriminated against for it (which is just wrong guys who love fat women aren’t treated like gay men in the 60s AT ALL and never have been). They had conventions for the fetish, forums, magazines with BBWs, a dating service, etc. She omits all of that cuz either she didn’t properly research or she knows it’d look bad to admit that NAAFA the original fat acceptance advocates were fetishists.

Interestingly, it’s been shown through the research that people are most judgmental towards people in situations where they are already struggling And they feel as though they are doing better than the person they are judging. I quit sugar a few months ago and after a couple weeks I noticed I was sleeping better, had more energy, etc. Stupid me gave in, and started doing sugar again, and started feeling like crap again. Just quit sugar again, although I allow myself one or two hard candies a day. I can eliminate them slowly. It's hard to ignore the cravings, but at least now I recognize them as cravings. I quit cigarettes cold turkey in 2004, I can beat sugar, too

The water talk "big deal" is that people still call it water even tho some of their potions can be calculated to have over 200 calories. So there are people like me, who disagree with the term "water" because it has so many extra chemicals that we no longer consider it water. Some of the drinks can get up to 300 calories or more.

I think I like body positivity because it says love your body for what it is, not just what it looks like. I am a healthy weight, I eat balanced and I exercise daily and I used to be overweight a few years ago but I lost weight and my body still doesn't look like the 'ideal' and it shouldn't have to. Wanting to lose weight for your health, well-being and longevity is not a negative but I do believe if you are losing weight simply to achieve one certain body type thats where it can get sketchy and studies show you're less likely to keep the weight off if thats your sole goal. Being completely obese though, thats just not helpful to your life, mental health and wellbeing so we shouldn't be demonising weight loss when it is necessary. Just my two cents.

The problem with watertok (for me) is....when does it stop being water and it's just diluted syrup? And I say that as someone who used to drink 3-4 Dr. Peppers a day in lieu of water and now drink maybe 1 a day and the rest is water (I love my Dr. Pepper what can I say) and the water I drink is pretty much always flavored with Mio because I really can't stand plain old water. I think something about putting so many syrups and powders in water is unnerving to some (including me) even if they're 0cal.

I mean in a way losing weight is a form of restriction, but restriction itself isn't an issue, it's over-restriction and a lot of fat acceptance people don't seem to understand the difference. There are just some things we need to restrict in life for our overall wellbeing. When I see those videos of fat women (not derogatory as it's the word they want to be called) eating whatever they want all day every day because it feels good and calling it self-love, it really just reminds me of addict behavior, like this is what it looks like if you give in to your addiction. If I lived my life completely unrestricted with no regard for health I would be smoking half a pack of cigarettes and drinking 5 glasses of wine every day because those things feel good to me in the moment. Like comparing to the Virgie Tovar cake incident, imagine if I got mad and made a video about how people having only one glass of wine at a party is rude and harmful to people who decide to drink an entire bottle, or getting mad at someone because they didn't want to vape with me. Pretty much everyone would agree that would be preposterous.

The watertok thing, she came at it from a weird angle, but I’ve seen another video where it was explained better on all sides. The lady who started it had bariatric surgery and uses it to get her water in, as do a huge percentage of watertok. However, with TikTok trends, a lot of it focuses on the “collection” of sugar free calorie packets and syrups and the Stanley cups. The amount and over production of some 😅 and it’s great that it’s working for you , but some doctors have said it might lead to just wanting more actual sugar and calories for some. But other doctors recommend it to patients to get water in any which way, so for some it balances it out. I know most people are just weirded out by the concept of calling it water, and on social media with short attention span aren’t going to dig any further so they’re irritated. It’s the new pumpkin spice latte girls and mostly harmless. Let them have fun with their drinks like others post their food. Anyway, great video and I love your points and view from another perspective. Been watching for years, and always interested to hear your tales and whatever you share with us. I think when it comes to the water tok issue, it’s good that those artificial flavors help people who struggle with drinking plain water. If it helps people not drink sodas or sweet drinks I say that’s a good thing but it should also just be a step to get them used to drinking regular water. The more you add something to your diet and everyday life, the more used you’ll get to it. That should be the goal.

Thank you for the reaction, this topic is something I've been dealing with lately, trying to find balance between losing weight and enjoying life, and I was scared that I would go from one extreme to another. I'm in no way obese or even overweight at this point (150 elbees at 5'6), but I've been working on body recomposition as my DEXA scan said I'm 41,1% body fat. My right arm is actually over 50% fat, no way this is right. I even had a conversation with a therapist about being worried to go from mindless eating to eating way too mindfully, and their answer was that moderation is key, and there's nothing wrong about tracking and knowing what you put in your body, because complete lack of control is what made me unhealthy in the first place. I realized I cannot just eat whatever I feel like in any quantities if I want to get fit. Especially when it comes to prepackaged items, cause if you don't look at the labels you have no clue how much of this and that there is. And our satiety cues are completely messed up from all the processed stuff. It's so easy to over eat in terms of calories even when the portion itself is tiny, because sure it's delicious, but there's been a lot of stuff added to make it that way. Also, portion sizes. A petite woman should not eat the same as her 6'4" tall significant other, but I see that happening very often, that happened to me twice in a relationship. I gained weight because I was eating just as much as the guy whether it was home cooked or at a restaurant. And it never even occurred to me until recently how careless this is. If I don't take into account the amounts, it's all going to end the same way. Minding your portion sizes and nutritional value of food according to TDEE and not giving in to any random craving you have is not restriction, that's giving your body exactly the amount of energy it needs without storing extra. Sorry for the rant, haha. Also I personally think the image of a "regular" body has very much shifted. That's why these days "smaller" people are often accused of undereating. Like, for some reason if you're not a proud carrier of love handles, that automatically means you're restricting your food too much. I've studied the behavior of a few "naturally skinny" people I personally know. Dude, those are some interesting creatures with fascinating habits. Food is fuel to them and I am amazed at how the process of eating does not correlate to emotions for them in any way. That's a concept I'm unfamiliar with.

A male colleague of mine had baby twins a while ago and because of the lack of sleep he started gaining. Turns out he's just been grazing mindlessly all day and night without realizing it. One of the best suggestions that I could give you as a "naturally" skinny, is to eat as much whole foods as possible and as few processed. Try not snack. Also, I try to think before I eat, am I hungry or bored? I get a glass of water a piece of fruit and think about things that need to be done. If I am still hungry in say 30 minutes then I'll have something to eat. I hope this helps and doesn't sound like judgement. Blessed Be 💜

My take: no matter what your diet is like somebody is going to judge and criticize you for it so only post about your diet if you’re prepared for comments like these. You don’t have to interact with them, but if you’re super sensitive and can’t handle comments on your diet don’t post about it. It’s your responsibility. This is part of why I never understood why people in early ED recovery post about their diet. Especially when they start crying and getting into heated arguments about it. If you can’t handle comments and criticism, don’t post your diet. Is someone a jerk for leaving a rude comment? Yeah they shouldn’t do that but you gotta understand you can’t control the actions of others you can only control your response to it.

For the longest time I thought she wore size L, and then she reminded me: "How can I wear L, when you yourself like to wear L jumpers." Oh. And I do complain about my weight. I gain 3-4 kg and because of my body-type half of my pants doesn't fit me any more. I also occasionally jog, and a kilo or two of weight really makes a difference.
