you should have opened up the filler cap first! then the oil drains better and faster just saying

OK........................... If you are worried about over filling your ride. It takes 2 and a half quarts of Oil. After you have added 2 quarts, take one of the empty bottles that you can see the Fluid lines. Open the 3Rd quart and pour into the empty bottle to the half quart line ! Don't guess ! Take the time to do it right ! Knees in the breeze my friends ! Ride safe this summer and watch out for those Cages Out There !

I just did my 5k service and noted a few things. The drain plug will take an Allen wrench so get a set of the ones that are on a socket. Don't waste time with a box wrench. Save the "spanner wrench" for adjusting your shocks. Hahaha! Get yourself a funnel that has measurements and a valve that you can open and shut with a screen inside. Then you can measure that last half since you will be using Redline and the bottles don't have a window. Buy a filter wrench cause if your is like mine it will be stuck on there good if you aren't the one who put it on. Use silicone spray on your NEW O-rings.

is it necessary to change transmission oil? Because I want to service my dyna street bob by myself and I saw couple of videos on KZbin to find out how to service our bike at home. Some people changing a transmission oil also and some people don’t. So if I had to change transmission oil then which oil should I use?

Hi Mack, Thanks for your reviews and video on the oil changes of a pre 2018Fat bob. Any chance you'll be making videos on seat removal, battery changes, Headlight changes, etc? very little out there in the fat bob world. Your video helped with my decision on buying a 2016 fat bob. Keep up the good work.

Hey thanks Trevor! Good to hear from ya. I loved the Fat bob but sold it and the V rod around the same time to get my current bike the Road King special. I really love making videos but the pace of life and some other projects that I have picked up have kept me from filming for quite some time now. All the best brother

@Mack's Moto I have a new Fat Bob and it's almost reaching 5K miles. Do I have to do the 5K Service from HD or can I just do a simple oil change?
@MacksMoto7 жыл бұрын
Malcom490 great to hear from ya. The oil change is the most costly and labor intensive part of the 5k service. The box next to oil is the only one marked "replace" but there are a number of other items marked "inspect" that warrant looking into. Do you have a service manual? The 5k service is a great 1st one to do your self. If you want to learn more about your bike I would recommend saving the cash from the service and investing in a manual. Make sure to save receipts for fluid purchases if you ever plan to sell the bike to anybody other than the dealer. Most buyers like to see service records.

If the V-Rod in the corner is yours, what bike do you like better, the V-Rod or the Fat Bob? Also which bike is more reliable? I used to have an 04 V-Rod and a 2010 Fat Bob. Thank You👍🏻👍🏻
@MacksMoto4 жыл бұрын
Yup, it was mine. The V-rod was kinda my one-up riding dream bike. The Fat Bob was way more of a utility long hauler. My wife got on the v-rod with me once and absolutely hated it. I only had the v-rod for like 6 months so can't really speak to long term reliability. Except that the V-rods gas gauge was horribly unreliable and that the water cooled system adds an extra layer of complexity to maintenance/repairs... still miss it though. Was a mean bike
@akaredcrossbow4 жыл бұрын
Mack's Moto Thank you for the reply! I had my 04 V-Rod for two years. I bought it with 110 miles on it in 2008 and put about 18,000 miles on it with absolutely no issues. Took multiple trips to Naples Florida from Massachusetts and back with my wife on the back. Saddle bags, sissy bar and better seats. Traded in the V-Rod in 2010 for the 2010 Fat Bob and had nothing but starting issues with the bike 2 weeks after I bought it, it killed the experience for us and never took that bike to Florida. It was in HD shops multiple times. I had the Fat Bob for 5 years and sold it with only 5,400 miles on it. It was such a disappointment. My wife was upset with me getting rid of the V-Rod, it was actually a real bad mistake. 👍🏻👍🏻

Just the standard stuff. Tire tread, start up... scrapes along the primary, grips, lights and such can be a sign that the bike was dropped. Revzilla and SRK Cycles have some some pretty cool used bike tip vids

is it better to have it on a bike stand where it stands up straight?
@MacksMoto7 жыл бұрын
Derek Macdonagh it is better to have the bike leaned over on the jiffy stand. Service manual is specific about that and the oil pan (position of the plug) is set up so that it needs to be leaned over for all of the oil to come out.

Is the oil level accurate with the bike leaning on its stand? Some people I know stand the bike up to check the level after then warm the bike up. At least with sport bikes.
@MacksMoto6 жыл бұрын
Erik Acevedo depends on the bike. The Fat Bob service manual says to check the oil with the bike on the jiffy stand... instructions on my Vrod were to check with bike standing straight up. What do you ride?
