I guess now that he's older (although he looks practically the same, he might have no dad but his skin is fab) he doesn't want to be that vulnerable on camera and share so much in front of so mant people. He created this persona for himself of a sexy, articulate, cyberbully with witty insults and a very british sarcastic humor, and honestly, I'm fine with it. It's not the same, but I get the choice and fully respect it. He's not for everyone, but his audience worships him like a god (he even confirmed he is a few videos ago) and I'm more than happy to be part of this cult. Food addiction is so interesting to me because of something Ethan Klein said about it before: you can’t get away from it. A lot of other addictions you’re fighting to cut it off completely but with this you’re surrounded by it constantly and you HAVE to eat food to live. Your literal only option is to learn some real self control and moderation. You can’t just cut it off cold turkey, and everyone around you is doing it all the time. I can see why this particular addiction would feel hopeless to deal with. You can’t even try to hide your struggle because everyone can see it from the way you look.

this show has such a weird tone. obviously the producers and the host are going for "hey look at those fat people. look how fat they are, these fatties, haha!", whereas the people themselves seemed quite aware of their problems and were hoping for some help to get them in control - especially since this was the first episode and so they didn't know how they'd be portrayed. I wonder how they felt at the end of all this; and if later episodes portrayed the people as more antagonistic so the producers could keep their stick of making fun of them up

@@malinasworld but as the above commenter said since it was the first episode in the series they probably didn't know exactly how they'd be portrayed. So, really, they DIDN'T actually know what they were signing up for. I also don't think anybody who signs on for a reality show TRULY knows exactly what they're signing up for, how much they'll be manipulated, etc. etc. I knew a cameraman who worked on The Bachelor and he told me the producers deliberately don't feed (or didn't, this would've been over 10 years ago) the contestants, make them stand for hours, but make sure there's PLENTY of alcohol around and almost no water. They purposely set up a situation for the contestants to get drunk and messy. But before that conversation I would've thought "hey, I could go on there and be normal, EASY, not like one of THOSE girls who cries all the time". Now I know I'd be set up to fail.

The thing that really sucks abt this show is Tanya should be praised for averaging 30+ minutes of exercise a day, especially since she is just starting out and her weight makes it very difficult to keep moving at a high intensity for their current physical stamina. Yes at that size you could be losing more with "less" effort but half a pound to a pound a week should always be celebrated no matter your current size because that is sustainable, healthy weight loss. If anyone is on their own journey please please know that "only" losing half a pound to MAX 2lbs a week is considered AMAZING progress and you are doing what you need to do. The "I lost 8+ lbs in one week" stuff is absolute bullshit. The ONLY time you will be seeing weight loss more than 8lbs a *MONTH* is because their starting weight requires an absurd amount of calories *DAILY* to maintain 240lbs+. Lots of love to all yall I'm rooting for you one internet stranger to another

And muscle weighs more than fat, so it’s not uncommon to gain a few pounds when you shed fat and develop your muscles. Then the balance shifts and the numbers start to shrink. She did a *fantastic* job of moving that amount of mass for as long as she did and getting to the net lower weight. 👍
@miaomiaou_

@@whatifschrodingersboxwasacofin this is a misconception. It’s really very hard to gain muscle mass and takes months to gain even 1 lb of muscle, plus heaps of resistance training. Weight will fluctuate though, that’s more of what’s happening here.

@@miaomiaou_ Nope. It’s a fact. I worked in a gym with beginners. Almost 100% experienced the small weight gain from building muscle before losing weight from shedding fat. You know, empirical evidence from a large sample size… science! How did you manage to isolate the “1 lb of muscle” in your ‘studies’?? It is actually VERY easy to gain a pound of muscle mass. Especially going from 0 movement to 1/2 hour of exercise. Put down your bodybuilder magazines; we’re talking about low intensity, low impact beginner programs here.

Yeah my concern is her piling on the weight she lost if she wasn’t put on a sustainable plan. It’s important to have a realistic plan you can actually stick to long term, I tried essentially living off salads for a few weeks and exercising a lot and found it wasn’t sustainable. I had one rough day at work and ordered a takeaway and passed out on the sofa when I got home and beat myself up about it which led to comfort eating. I find that just making lots of small changes is something I can keep up for a very long time, like walking to work, taking the stairs, choosing healthy snacks with my meal deal, opting for Coke Zero over normal coke, etc. It’s all about balance and you can’t be expected to change your entire life over night, it has to be gradual

Honestly the people in the show seem pretty realistic and accepting of who they are, i feel bad for how the producers talk about them As someone who had a pretty bad overeating problem as a kid (that ive taken many many many steps to start repairing), i got called fat a lot growing up and it genuinely made me want to lose weight less. You KNOW you're fat and overweight, being sneered at for it diesnt make you wanna lose it, it makes you feel like you cant. No one believes in you and treats you like ass. Its only when you believe in yourself and are mentally prepared for it that you can really start making changes. And even then, changes are slow, its taken like 3 years to really get my eating under control. Sorry for the rant but I've alwayabhated the mentality of calling people names in order to get them to change, especially when it comes to weight because it really is a journey not a walk down the street

I've never understood why having anorexia gets you hospitalised and all the health treatment you need in order to give you the best chance at recovery as possible (cbt, guided meditation, daily meals and snacks provided, nutrition education just to name a few from my own experience in hospital) and yet people with overeating disorders get shamed and looked down on so much worse than other kinds of eating disorders. They're both the same thing at the end of the day. They're at opposite ends, but they're people whose real problems are manifesting into food issues.
@irradiated_woman8016
@irradiated_woman8016 Жыл бұрын
@@hayley8907 well... BED sufferers can absolutely qualify for treatment like any other ED patient. No doubt it depends on insurance (if USA) but so does everything. Point being it is a thing, treatment-wise. BED is now recognized by the DSM, same category as AN and BN. I'm not saying there isn't ANY difference on the healthcare end, but a lot of it is tied to the fact that AN and BN sufferers are a lot more likely to NEED hospitalization when the illness is severe. BED isn't going to make your potassium so low that you have cardiac arrest at age 16 or tear a hole in your esophagus that causes your stomach to fill with blood. Now because I'm not trying to be that guy jumping in to say "well ACKTully" it is important to say that you're absolutely right about BED not being taken seriously in general, and that's super wrong. Our concern about people's wellbeing is definitely biased towards people who "look sick." AN sufferers are more likely to look ill and frail (though plenty don't) whereas most with BED look normal. Seeking serious ED treatment is generally tied to social stuff like one's family and/or friends being concerned, and the prerequisite for that is them noticing a problem. Umm also I'm not trying to tell you about your own experience, especially having no idea when and where it was. Things may have been different, i dunno. Today BED is recognized and starting to get more attention, but that's pretty new... I'm pretty sure it was only added when DSM5 came out.

I must say, as a fat person myself, I don't think fat people would find your fat jokes offensive. You make exactly the kind of jokes a fat person would make (unfortunately that gives me a lot of insight into your self-perception, I think you mentioned your experiences with EDs in a previous video?) You're fabulous and definitely very handsome and funny dear.

God these shows make my ED go off so bad, weirdly tho watching this vid made it easier to watch shows like this?! I don’t like how nasty these shows are to people tho, so dehumanising, being overweight can also be a cause of an Eating Disorder and yet nobody is as encouraging with recovery when you’re overweight instead of underweight and it needs to be addressed in my opinion. People genuinely don’t think you have an ED unless you’re skeletal and I’ve even experienced this when my ED didn’t make me look physically different at times and people in my life laughed when I told them about my ED instead of supporting me in getting better mentally and feeling strong in myself again

that’s so true, a lot of these shows give me such an icky feeling, a lot of people treat fat people like they’ve done something awful and personally hurt them, which makes no sense. i also have an ed and im not fat or skinny, and my weight fluctuates, but hasn’t changed super drastically. i am trying to hate myself less, but its hard when you’re surrounded by people being so cruel to those who are fat, or even mid sized/ not skinny people. wishing you the best in recovery, proud of you :)

There are people who have intrusive food thoughts constantly. They think about nothing else & they cannot shut it off. It doesn't matter if they've just eaten. It doesn't matter if they know it's bad for them. I'd be really surprised if that wasn't a huge part of the issue for a huge amount of the people who fit into the morbidly obese classification. In the US, the food sold in grocery stores now is shockingly different than what was sold just 50 years ago. It's a huge reason we are here. There are over 60 different names for added sugar so even if you're looking to cut most of that out of your diet & actually eat the way one would need to to lose weight, you'd need a nutrition degree from a country that hasn't been overrun with corporate bribes to do so. If you don't have the resources to be able to spend 2-3 hours each time in the grocery store reading every label & researching every ingredient because you need to survive & the kids need things/time, you're fighting a losing battle. Companies in the US can straight up lie on their labels & are allowed to be up to 20% off about how many calories are in what you're eating. They can do that on every single label. Nobody even checks if the label is correct unless there are complaints so it could be (& liked is) even further off than that. How are you meant to lose weight by maintaining 1,800 calories a day when you don't know there is likely 20% more calories in everything you've been eating all day because if their products contained less calories, they'd for sure put that? This is not a moral failing of the people who are overweight. It's a moral failing of the capitalistic dystopian nightmare everyone currently lives in & the people running it. When 3-5 companies own every brand in the grocery store & their only aim is to make as much money as possible, you get really unhealthy food in those stores even though, if you trusted the marketing on the packages, you'd think you were buying the healthiest options in the store. In my research, up to 70% of the items in modern grocery stores have added sugar. If you live nowhere near any farms so you would know what's being put in your food, you're getting a whole lot of frankenfood, pesticides, antibiotics & hormones. They inject salt water into your meat to make it weigh more as meat is sold by weight. They dye your meat so it looks better for longer. They use meat glue so they can sell you lower grade meat at premium cut prices. You can't even trust farmer's markets anymore as grocery conglomerates have overrun those too. Like I said, the obesity epidemic is not a moral failure of the individual. It's a moral failure of every single system that touches health & wellness. That's why I get very put off by shows like this.

you could just buy veggies and make your own bread etc. don’t need to calorie count just need to try eat smaller portions, move more, and eat more veg etc. ez.
@tazhienunurbusinezz1703

@@bea4846 & that helps the intrusive food thoughts, how exactly? Also, do you know how many people have to work 2 jobs while they're trying to raise their kids? Like they have time to bake bread. It really frustrates me how little people understand this wildly complex problem but like to imagine they've got it all figured out. I'm not overweight but when my kid was, it just pissed me off just how many people tried to make it a moral failing of hers or mine. The kid ran marathons & didn't eat food that didn't come from one of the sustainable organic farms next to my house. I went off on someone in a grocery store once because my oldest (who was overweight & had just turned 18) was shopping so she could meal prep what she was taking to college with her. She put a birthday cake & ice cream in her cart as a gift for my youngest as my oldest was going to miss the first birthday my youngest would have after my youngest's father was killed in a car accident a few months prior to that. This middle aged size 14 woman had something to say about my daughter's thoughtful gift for her younger sister. "You don't need any ice cream or birthday cake or you'll just get bigger". She wasn't even having any. It was a bloody gift. It's funny though, when my short & tiny youngest would fill her cart with absolute garbage for movie nights with my stepson, she always got smiled at & asked if she was having a party or if she was stocking up for fun. THAT is why this infuriates me. It's not about health. Nobody really cares if a stranger is healthy. They want to feel superior. That's why this is complete bull. The people who should voice their thoughts about a stranger's health are the people in that stranger's doctor's office. End of.

Honestly, after I suddenly gained 60 lbs (im five feet tall, so it was pretty noticeable) after doing NOTHING different in my lifestyle, was disheartening and I began to look at overweight people a bit differently. I ended up having a gastric bypass because of a health issue I was having, and I lost the 60 lbs in a couple months because I was on a popsicle diet. It was absolutely miserable. My whole life is different now that I had that surgery. Anyway, I just have more sympathy for fat people is what Im getting at. I technically have an "eating disorder" because of how irregular my eating habits are nowadays. It can get really depressing at both ends of the weight spectrum. My thighs arent even close to touching anymore. My face is a bit hollow. Im 99 lbs now. And now its been about two years since my surgery and im just now adjusting to my new body.
