Mind boggling that Maritso has been feeding Pretty, pasta of all things

@fruitpunchmouth If you're ever able to get free samples or refund price guaranteed pellet food take advantage. I've worked with birds where I've tried up to 6 kinds and also played the game of soaking pellets with orange or apple juice and offered as a "treat". Once I find one they will eat, the first week is 3/4 of their regular food to 1/4 pellets, then week two is half and half and so on. Now once on pellets only, the people food of potatoes, carrots, apples, cherries and so on are given as treats when I grab something for myself in the kitchen. In fact my first bird, and still is, a wild caught adult yellow front Amazon freshly out of quarantine and bought for less than $100 in 1985. When I had her check at the vet right away the guess was that she was 2 to 3 years old. Bird diets and more were scarce back then and seed diet was basically it. About a year into having her she moulted and started coming out with dark burgundy feathers scattered on its body. The vet working with the university came down with the diagnosis called "bronzing" which meant different vitamin deficiencies. By this time Lafebers came out with a pellet and we slowly switched her over. Next molt bye bye bronzing and has been super healthy ever since. I take her to an avian vet every 4 to 5 years for weight, blood work and a good look over all. I'm really tuned in with this bird that I can notice the slightest change, and if I do we immediately go to the vet. I'm just glad that out there are vets trained in birds/reptiles only. One funny note. I had always thought she was a he by the brow and head shape. But in 1999 he started laying eggs. I never had surgical sexing thinking why put the parrot through an unnecessary surgery. Then eggs started coming out once or twice every 3 months. The last egg was a bit gritty so off to the vet. We tried hormone shots but they didn't last that long, so in the long run I had her egg tube removed. The ovaries stay because they are incredibly close to the heart. Surgery has worked very well at a cost of $1,200 back then. If you consider I've had her for 37 years, the surgery cost was just a spit in the ocean. The trick to adding new foods is to try it in many different ways. For instance, peas can be offered whole, cut in half or smashed. You never know what food and what shapes they like best. My Amazon likes one specific pellet and not any colorful ones. So every year I have to buy 25lbs, since that's the smallest amount I can buy of that food. I make many vacuumed bags of this food and store it in the freezer yet I always buy a brand new bag every year on the dot even when it's not expired. Good luck with your parrot in the future!

@fruitpunchmouth One last thought to make cooking easier. Make a nice sized batch of the food your bird likes most and mix it up in a bowl. Then grab some ice cube trays and fill them up with your mixture and freeze. At the start of every day put a cube or two or three in its fresh cleaned bowl. It sure makes things a bit easier!

Full blown pellet diets aren't good for birds either. You need a timed balanced diet of seasonal birdie chop and some organic dye free pellets.
@sarahb.7611
@sarahb.7611 Жыл бұрын
@fruitpunchmouth I understand how it can be annoying to have everyone insisting your bird should be on pellets period. I'm sure they mean well. The reason I made the ice cube tray idea is one, it makes life easier especially if you're going out to eat and don't feel like cooking. And, you can always pop the cubes in the microwave to warm it up like your parrot wants. Two, you can also make ice cube tray fruit cubes too! Let it thaw naturally plus sometimes it makes holding the food easier. The fact that your parrot likes to hide behind or inside its sleeve or tube may be a female behavior. In addition, having your bird climb out of its cage to eat can make a bird nervous and feeling exposed thus wanting to hide once back in its cage. You may try moving things around in the cage. It does help to exercise the brain and come up with new ways to navigate inside. I strongly suggest you put a food cup and a water cup inside the cage. Also change the diameter of its sleeping perch so the feet are not in the same diameter grip most of the time. Helps prevent arthritic feet. Like you said, it's like having a young child, so it's good to stimulate the brain. Human baby toys can be an easy way to come up with some new toys that you can hang with a safe chain and closing C ring. I buy baby toys at rummage sales, toss them in the dishwasher to clean and sanitize and hang when dry in the cage. Baby toys are easy to clean on a regular basis using the dishwasher and on average costs 50 cents per toy. Now that you have mentioned having your parrot for 10 years I understand it seems like he's doing well with the current diet but technically 10 years is not that long. 20 plus years, now that's a long time, that may cause a certain diet to finally show signs in a parrot. Just like the guy in the video who has owned his bird more than 40 years, the fatty tumor appeared after many decades. Just like foot arthritis, feather banding and so much more, it happens over a longer period of time. Finally, as long as you feed your parrot well, feed less starchy foods and big on variety you may have the perfect diet without changing to pellets. It's just easier to feed pellets to make sure of a well rounded diet. You can also install a small food dish that is designated as the "special treat" cup. It's a great way to introduce something new and teaches your parrot to rush over and get excited to try. If your parrot decides to fling it out of the cage, at least you know he tried it. Cereal without sugar coating is an easy treat too! Another favorite treat at my home is cooked chicken in small amounts. They're cannibals!

The parrot needs a pelleted diet! It may take up to a month to slowly switch out the seeds to straight pellets. Seeds should only be a small treat, a very small treat! Sure, you may treat them with human food, like pasta in this parrot's case should only be a 1/4" piece. The greens are very important and some times a pea size piece of apple, strawberry, banana or orange is fine on an irregular basis. Watch the poops and stay away from seed for all parrots. They will live longer too since with a pellet diet, they can't pick or choose what they like best. This way they will always get a well rounded meal.

When I saw that Gypsy's owners are an elderly couple, I'm afraid I knew exactly why the pup was so cared and uncooperative with the folks at SASH. I help my sister run a kennal and have seen the same thing with older folks and their dogs. Lack of socialization. Unfortunately, these dogs, often smaller breeds, are also older and less mentally flexible. I also strongly suspect that most of them weren't given any meaningful training. So they're terrified, undisciplined, and thus *violent.* Thankfully, Gypsy's owners seem to at least be *trying* to train her, but that pup *needs* to get out more.

My galah is on a great diet, lots of veggies and diet budgie seed, recommended by his avian vet who he sees regularly for check ups and he is so healthy and happy. I love Dr Chris but I don't want anyone looking after my bird except for a really experienced avian veterinarian. A parrot is an incredible blessing to have in your life and they deserve the absolute best care you can possibly give them. He'll be lucky if that bird survives much longer. There's so much information about how to look after a bird, there is no excuse to be such a negligent owner.

Heather I had to reply to many of the other comments, I agree they should have mentioned they’re species specific. He did say they’re only spread between goats and sheep but I don’t think many caught that part.

Who the heck is responsible for the writing the subject for these videos? Wasn’t the goat infected with lice? He used a flea/tick medicine to get rid of them. But I distinctly remember Dr Chris saying ‘louse’ after seeing them under a microscope. See!? They’re microscopic organisms! Ticks are visible as the day is long. Yeah, Monty’s dad ain’t gonna be sleeping with him no more. 😂 🐐+ 🐞 = you outta here come nighttime.

There are actually ticks that are very tiny, the size of a pinhead. The vet said there is an ingredient in the medication that gets rid of lice.

I'm sorry, but old people need to stop buying German shepherds, pitbulls, and other high anxiety and hyper large breeds. This old couple seems to be doing well with their pup so no hate to them but I work as a groomer and we've seen sooo many old people who can't even walk their dogs to their car and have no control over them whatsoever which can be dangerous for everyone

Bondi vet is primarily a TV show so that’s why you may find these episodes uploaded here are fairly long.

Elvis the alligator, how afraid people are of you. How do the same people think the chicken felt being murdered so you could show off feeding the alligator. People have a choice to protect themselves, the herbivore didnt.

stop blurring stuff!! people should know by now that they are watching a vet in real life practice and be prepared to see gorey stuff. if not then they don't need to be watching. Needles give me an electric shock when going in I just don't look. Not even my own. I know it's part of their job so get over it. jeeze, it's not tv it's real so deal with it. go watch "All Things Great And Small" the blood there is fake! Keep up the good work Bondi!!
