Q&A time! Post your questions down below 0:02 I'm cutting and I've lost kgs, but I don't really see any visual difference. How come the weight is going down, but visually it's not changing? 1:39 Could you build a nice chest with push-up variations? If so, how? 2:55 Are the seated rows a good variation to develop the back thickness? 4:04 Yo Alex thoughts on seal rows? 5:15 What do you think of intermittent fasting? 6:41 Do you consider the end of the workout a cooldown since they're easier on the CNS compared to the main leg exercises and presses? 8:05 Terrible elbow pain after doing lots of Rack pull above knee, Power Shrugs, Farmers Carry and Suitcase Dead Lift partials/Holds.. How to fix? 9:28 Is the hip thrust the best glute exercise ever? 10:23 Thoughts on the Carnivore diet? It's basically 100 % meat. 12:06 Yo Alex...What are your thoughts on weighted dips with a paused stretch at the bottom? 12:48 Thoughts on deadlifting from the knees as a last resort for overloading traps/upper back when you don't have a rack/blocks? 14:34 Why do i find it much easier to dumbbell press than bench press? 16:24 Alex , is it true that muscle is a byproduct of strength ? 17:25 YO, do you train calves? 18:19 Alex what books/strategies are good for becoming a better public speaker ? 20:09 What's your opinion on taking some time away from friends to pursue some personal development and maybe starting a youtube channel which i've always dreamt of but didn't have the courage around my friends? Im talking going off the grid completely would it be a good strategy or just silly

In regards to elbow pain from doing the heavy carry/pull variations: it's likely due to golfer's elbow, as you mention, and too much forearm flexion work. I experienced the same thing, I couldn't figure out why my heavy presses were aggravating my elbows so badly even after a significant deload. The pain was even located along the ulna in my forearm similar to the sensation of shin splints. Turns out it was Farmer's carries in combination with the other heavy overload pull/carry movements (even when using straps). I dropped some of those from my workout and went back to a more volume predominant focus for yoke training and the elbow/forearm pain has gone away. I also stopped doing straight pronated grip on my warmup and moderately heavy deadlift sets and switched to hookgrip exclusively (no straps). I notice a lot less forearm tension using hookgrip instead of straps (obviously, I don't do hookgrips for rack pulls, not conditioned enough for that, yet). Additionally, I started incorporating more forearm stretching and mobility into my routine before my heavy pulls, including some light wrist extensions and reverse curls. Training submaximally on pulls/carries in general helps with eliminating having tonic forearms (too much grip it and rip it, if you know what I mean). Hope this helps!
@seantv15106 жыл бұрын
DCJayhawk57 Thanks for sharing. In your case, do you think the pain was coming from the tendon or the bone? I have the same problem and it does feel similar to shin splints, so I'm wondering if it is the bone instead of the tendon like I assumed.
@simonize2516 жыл бұрын
I have this same problem right now, mine is tennis elbow. I think it's from too many weighted pull-ups, heavy rack pulls and farmer carries. I've been using bands like crazy (reverse forearm curls, push downs, banded face pulls) getting bloodflow to the area along with rolling out trigger points in my forearms with a lacrosse ball and I have deleted pull-ups and farmer carries from my training for now. I think the worst thing is to stop training altogether hoping it will go away.
@tomingebrigtsen89766 жыл бұрын
I agree with Jayhawk here. I used to have nerve pain in that ulnar groove (funny bone) and soft tissue work did not help it. It was a wrist angle issue in any of my pulls. Like he states, for us it was a flexion issue. It took months to clear up without lifting while i chased problems with back pain as well. If you hold your forearm vertically and let your hand and wrist assume a natural position, this is the angle you should pull with to recruit both sides of your forearm in a balanced fashion.
@Culterin6 жыл бұрын
'' and too much forearm flexion work'' Examples?
@DCJayhawk576 жыл бұрын
Myotendinous issue, not the bone. There's really no way to get a stress injury to the bones in your forearm from that type of exercise. I think some of it was flexor carpi ulnaris tenosynovitis as well, at least in my left wrist (my non-dominant side, which has been worse pain-wise).

Thats not what Alex or I mean. Like Alex said "theres many ways to make money online." If you are successful with your online business you will have so much free time. Thats basically what we mean, work hard now and then be free to do what you want. once you read some books you realize opportunities are there just have to take them.

@devoutapostate90056 жыл бұрын
With the elbow pain. Sometimes it can be a result of an individual's unique anatomy. The elbow joint has varying degrees of deflection among the human population. People with higher degrees of deflection often end up with tennis or golfer's elbow from lifting. I have a pretty high degree of deflection, and have struggled with golfer's elbow for years. The problem is usually exacerbated by gripping a straight bar, and then putting tension on the joint. So, things like straight bar curls and straight bar pull-ups are off-limits. Feeling pain in rack pulls, deadlift, and farmer carry may just be a result of inflammation caused by doing other lifts becoming more noticeable due to the heavy loads involved. Taking a few months off the gym is the only "cure" I know of, but once it's gone the focus should be on prevention. That would include avoiding putting strain on the elbow joint, and strengthening the forearm. Also, Shock Doctor makes elbow compression sleeves that have gel packs designed to keep both the lateral and medial tendons below the elbow from moving around and becoming inflamed. If you have elbow pain, those sleeves are the magic bullet solution.

Hey Alex, so i've been lifting for quite some time but just recently (3 months ago) i started your novice program, everything's good, gains are coming and i feel good. The only problem i have is that i like to go all in in the gym and this results in going 100%, my question is: Is it normal to have brain fog for a couple days after lifting practically at 100% (heavy)? I must add that my sleep, water intake, and eating is on point. Thanks Alex.

Exactly how I feel about Shawn Baker. I can't fathom how him and his followers so adamantly believe that humans are carnivores. It flies right in the face of science, and I wish people didn't blindly follow "health gurus" simply because they're saying "science got it wrong all along, I know the way to true health and I can strategically pick studies to support my bias" . Most people just have this urge to latch onto something solely because it's edgy and "sounds" plausible enough to work. Fact of the matter is, when you claim to know or have something no-one else does (in this case claiming the best diet i.e. the carnivore diet), then advocate your message but keep the information scarce, when people are convinced that what you're saying is true (even if it isn't), they will pay you to guide them or provide more information. Shawn Baker's "Carnivore Training System is $49 US a month"; the end goal here is to make money from a fad diet ( eg. Atkins, RawTill4, Keto, etc) by claiming they can provide something no one else can. It's fundamental value-exchange mechanics. People are willing to part with their cash if they perceive the information or item received is valuable (whether or not it' actually is.) All you need to do is create the perception of value.

Of course it won't effect anything dude. With in reason, masturbation is healthy for male and female. It does though, become unhealthy and detrimental when you become obsessed and fixated on it, like it becomes some you HAVE to do vs something you WANT to do. Also, porn can be a huge destructive attribute to your life. 1 or 2 times per week isn't bad at all, it's good for the immune system, it's good for detoxing the brain and body and producing good hormones and chemicals, it lowers cortisol levels. It also helps protect and cleanse the prostate, it helps keep the pelvic floor muscles healthy and strong. It can improve your stamina when it comes to sex and help you learn to control your dick basically lol. It's also excellent stress relief, not as good as sex but it's literally the next best thing. Now, I wouldn't advise to masturbate just before you hit the gym or workout because it does make you relaxed and a little docile, that's the effects of orgasm lol. But a couple times a week is not a problem at all man, so long as it doesn't become an obsession and consume your life then you will be absolutely fine brother.

Alex, you've talked about how rack pulls, cheat rows ect are great for overloading the traps and the upper back. I've been doing these for months now and I've noticed significant improvements in my entire upper body. My question is, what are some methods I could use to overload the push muscles in a similar way? Being tall and lanky with long arms my back has always been my best muscle group but my chest especially is lagging and I'm trying to find ways to get the same adrenaline fueled pump that I get on my back days.

Hey, Alex! I hope you can answer this one: you said in multiple videos that it's easy to reach your daily intake of protein with a plant based diet, but what do you eat to achieve that? Giving that you are weighting 174lbs, 13%-ish BF, you would need around 120g of protein (0.8g protein per lb of lean body mass), which would amount to a whopping 3lb of chickpeas - one of the more protein dense vegetables - and this would account to 2296 calories already. I hope I made myself clear. Thanks for the videos!

Jacob Bonfante I did go to a doctor he was useless... He told me start doing the McKenzie press up and do knees to chest. Which made no sense since they work against each other

Alex, could you talk about your inspirations/idols? Could be in many different facets, e.g., lifting/philosophy/public speaking etc. Maybe even an entire video could be made of it. This question came to me around the 19:30 mark.

When I watched your Box Squat tutorial video I learned that I was doing it all wrong. Do you think you’d ever make “ultimate tutorials” for other lifts like the ones in your Novice program? (I mostly mean the compounds. I don’t think anyone needs to know how to do a preacher curl)
