You did very well on that interview, James. Maybe I am being a pessimist, but to me, it felt like the interviewers were trying to get you to say what they wanted you to say, which could have had negative outcomes for you, but you didn't let that happen. You were friendly, professional, and sincere about your responses, you answered their questions with what you wanted to say.

It's only "you" that can change your eating habits and exercise regime. I've been called fat most of my life and am now 53. He was diplomatic, not politically correct. Being politically correct involves distorting language in order to avoid difficult issues. Shaming people only works when that person is taking the piss with stupid behaviour. James made himself very relatable to Piers and Suzanna with the "not putting on a stone over xmas is doing xmas wrong". We're all human and we wall love a good bit of food so there's no need to be a dick to people about it. The main job of being a PT (I speak from experience) is to encourage people to work out and to find a healthy mental balance with their food and to accept that they are human and to curb their expectations.

Everything this man says is true. This is only the second time I've been exposed to James and its true. 4 years ago I was incredibly over weight and 'nothing ever worked' I was very active but thought that meant I didn't have to watch what I was eating. I lost over 50lbs in the space of 6 months the minute I forced myself to pay attention to what was going in my gob and live in a calorie deficit. Going to the gym, Eating cleanly and then a couple of sporting activities a week. When you do this you will lose fat and also understand why you put on weight in the first place. Personally I saw food as entertainment and if I was bored, I'd eat. Its also incredibley important to think about it as losing fat and not losing weight. Once you've lost a decent amount of fat, you may start weighing more as you continue to build muscle. reshaping the narrative of weight loss is important as the minute you see the number on the scales going up its disheartening.

you are one of very few people who will tell things how they are to people and i do agree with James on the topics that have been spoken here, it's very sad to see people now taking the easy way and not actually putting any effort into excercise and just becoming lazy about excercising by using things like peloton rather than getting on a pushbike and actually cycling outside in the fresh air rather than using a stationary bike on a zoom call with people you don't know and pedalling but going nowhere, it's basically a treadmill in pushbike form but from the comfort of your own home rather than actually going outside and using their own bikes that can go to places locally without the use of a car.
@SH12SHH
@SH12SHH 9 ай бұрын
Not sad at all, people live different lifestyles some people are busier than others some people have more reason to be at home to others, the fact they have still purchased that bike or treadmill for their home is something within itself. Not everyone wants to ride a bike down a road in the freezing cold and pissing down rain.

Do the things that you enjoy. There are elements of peloton that some people find joyful. Some people consider weight training just picking stuff up and putting it back down. The point is to move your body in a way you want to. It helps if it compliments your lifestylr. I.e if your job requires you to be strong, 12 hours of running a week probably will make your life harder, being really lean and lacking strength. On the flip side if you're a postman walking 40k steps a day, being 3 stone heavier (even with muscle) will make your life harder.

The problem I had was that after maximizing my calorie deficit, my body got used to it, and instead of losing weight, my body was turning down functions like the temperature, so I was feeling cold and tired all the time. I ended up fixing my diet afterwards. I wasn't fat but I was trying to lose more weight without adding more exercise, just by eating like 1400 calories a day... not the best option!

I love your no nonsense content. Just yesterday I had a conversation with two colleagues at a restaurant, one is overweight and one is really skinny. I managed to pack on 7kg of muscle in the past year by just eating right and exercising right (I used to be skinny for 24+years and once I structured my diet and exercise, I was able to go from 73 to 86 kg and the past year I went from 83 to 90kg at 190cm. So I know what a struggle it is but not impossible). The other two colleagues are trying to convince me that your "body composition/shape/weight" is 80% genetic and 20% diet+excercise. I proceed to tell them its more the other way around. The skinny one proceeds to eat a soup for lunch and the overweight one proceeds to eat a whole plate of hot wings with fried potato and a bowl of cheddar dips..... Then also admits that he buys bags of sunflower seed and always snacks on them passively.... I also saw how much the skinny guy eats usually and his lunches don't even qualify for a side dish for me. The amount of people who are in delusion is astounding. But I have given up trying to convince them. They always ask me how I got into shape and I tell them its calorie regulation and 3 exercise a week. Then they proceed to try to convince me that its genetics and I am somehow lucky to have this kind of body, which is really insulting because they are basically belittling the work I put in, just so that they wouldn't have to face the fact that they are the ones responsible for the shape they are in...

From a physics perspective, climbing a hill outside is like having a break tied to you as you try to navigate the gravity well. So, I frankly don't see the difference if the stimulus makes your muscles work the same.

Spinning is good fun, I've even taught a few classes myself, but the key is finding a form of exercise you enjoy and sticking to it. Nice interview though, I enjoyed it.

love your content, I bought my fiance a peloton as its difficult to get out to the gym with a little one and the instructors help to gee her up, as much as u hate them, it is a good but of kit, however, nothing compares with getting out in the open air and training. I'm her PT at home, she doesn't know what's coming round the corner 😅

I found your channel from this new YT algorithm posting video from content providers I've never heard from or knew you were successful. I subscribed as I liked your straight to the point no BS David Goggins style without the extreme I'm the muts nuts the baddest on the planet, and being a Brit bonus kudos. Good on you for not doing a Nick Griffin on TV, by using your intellect to compliment and then guide them to a better version of themselves. Weight loss is a huge mindfuck! it is as simple as calories in v Calories out, but our minds make it complicated by looking for the path of least resistance! I'm on that path, lost allot 30kg, put on 15, now lost another 5, up down etc.. A constant battle of the mind which will probably go on forever, but one you can't stop trying.

I'm not anti-spinner. I do think the exercise bike is useful as a tool for cardio. On my cardio days, I do the treadmill (running as much as I can, and walking the rest) for about 45 minutes to an hour. After that, I use the stationery bike to keep moving, and for a bit of cooldown for another 20 minutes.

I used to own one of those stationary bike thingies. I used it nearly every day and would go hell for leather and be sweating my arse off for 20 mins. I got in the best shape of my 30's. In my head, getting my heart rate up that high isn't as easy to do going outside. I don't want to risk riding a pushbike on the road, as you have to be mental to do that with the traffic. So is there anything wrong with it? I regularly go for long walks but I never break much of a sweat.
