It's funny that Alex mentioned how he had his Attitude V1's for 3 years. I'm STILL using my first generation RCV922 Fat Shark goggles from like 6-7 years ago, and they still work great! I did have to replace the receiver due to my own screw up accidentally plugging in a 3S battery by mistake and smoking the original receiver, but Fatshark had an upgrade unit for the RCV922 goggles that moved them up into the "Nexwave" generation simply by taking the goggles apart and swapping out the receiver module. Nobody online still had them at the time mine failed, but Fatshark service assisted me in getting one direct from them. It was a quick and simple job to swap out the receiver and my ancient goggles keep on rolling. Fatshark goggles are AWESOME, and the service even YEARS after original sale is fantastic. BUY FATSHARK, you won't be disappointed.

I just bought the V3s a few months ago and the ones I got don't have the little fan guard piece. My vent fan is not protected, which makes it really easy to grab the fan when it's on and burn out the fan. The fan is so weak (to save on battery life) that you can't hardly feel it when you grab the fan when it's on. My fan burnt out and I think this was why. Fatshark did send me another fan ASAP, no problem (good customer service IMHO) and I made a simple fan guard. Nice to see they took care of the problem with newer models.

Nice video but I was waiting for you to discuss the optics of the HDV2's. Almost everyone that looks into them cannot see anything clearly but the very center of the screen. They now ship with the -2 diopter which shrinks the FOV almost the same as the Dom V2/Attitude V3, but I tried a pair this weekend with the diopter and while MUCH better, much of the screen was still blurry. I've been looking for a pair for a few weeks now and can't settle on the DomV3 because of the stretched aspect. Very frusterating that these are our only options. The Focal from Spektrum is the same as the attitude V3 except with a different plastic finish. I really want the DVR function in there. If the HDV2 optics were right, there would be no problems. Unfortunately there is no good option even if I'm willing to spend all the money.

Soooooo which of these have head tracking? You mentioned it way in the beginning, but you never said which if any have head tracking. You also only mentioned the cost of one of them.
@cj2006sd8 жыл бұрын
For Dominator Series (V3 and HD2) it is an add-on and must be purchased separately. For the Teleporter and Attitude it is built in (model PDOF) 2-axis. The Dominator series, you can add-on the Trinity 3-axis head tracker with has two cool things....you can do 3 axis (if you so desired), but more importantly, the Trinity has no-drift at all...it is very good at eliminating it because the third axis helps it dial in exactly where you turned your head. Drift is where you turn your head and then when you center your head, the camera is not exactly centered when you turn your head back....when this happens you have to press the button to center the camera again. Now the bonus with the Teleporter and Attitude is that the built in head tracker will not only do traditional headtracking, they will do digital headtracking. This is where you can use a camera that has a "wide angel" or "fisheye", and the goggles will zoom in to only a portion of the screen, and as you turn your head, it will "digitally" pan and tilt with-in the picture...allowing you to not have to add servos to your model.

I just purchased a pair of Dominator V3's, and love them. I opted for a Furious D duel reciever instead of the Next wave that they recommend, (for warranty purposes, are we not DRONE pilots?). It has auto scan, so you can use your goggles on many drones and get locked on to a signal in a heart beat. I also installed a Lumeneir 16X9 wide screen camera on my Storm 260 drone. Wide screen is AWESOME! It looks good on standard cameras to, you just have to get used to it.

Quick question about the aspect ratios, which you guys touched on: When recording with the DVR on the Dominator V3s using a 4:3 onboard cam, will the recorded footage also be that slightly squished, stubby image, or will it record the native 4:3 footage? Also, can you conform a 16:9 image coming from a Phantom to a 4:3 screen like on the HD2s, or does that not work/looks too funny? Thanks!
@cj2006sd8 жыл бұрын
The V3 to me seem like they are better if you are going to switch formats. A 4:3 image onto 16:9 goggles puts a slight horizontal stretch to the image, which is not really noticeable BUT a 16:9 image onto 4:3 goggles looks weird...squashed kind of like a "fun house" image. Also with Dominator V3, a 4:3 image is correctly recorded onto its DVD...it actually does records in 4:3. but view through goggles will add a slight horizontal stretch. HD2's will squash a 16:9 image. I would say if you are going to use both formats, then V3 is what you want. Charpu uses V3's.

Loaded question for the reviewers... the Attitude V3 vs the Dominator HD2.... the end cost, after you get the necessary modules etc do you think the cost difference for the average user is worth going Dominator or do you think the average user would be more than happy with a pair of Attitudes? I noticed the one of you said you still used Attitude v1s after 3 years which kinda seem 'telling' to me that they must be pretty decent (unless you are just an FPV fanatic). one thing i have been trying to discover is: do have to buy the goggles/monitor and the fpv camera separately? or do they always come in joint package? have 3 rc planes along with an rc car that i'd like to mount an fpv camera onto. please help me out
@dev.lockridge8 жыл бұрын
Seb cal usually you have to buy everything separately. You CAN find packages with goggles and camera, but (usually) thats with the lower end goggles. I have the teleporter v5, which does come with a camera in certain situations, and I don't really recommend it. The eyecups are uncomfortable, the screen is too far away and they fog within 10 seconds of use. Get the attitude v3(or a newer one if they came out with it). They come with the 5.8ghz receiver module, have a foam faceplate, adjustable IPD for different eye distances, a wider field of view (FOV) and have a fan to get rid of internal fogging. They are more expensive but are a lot better than the teleporters. I say buy them. If you have more money to spend look at the dominators mentioned in the video.
@dev.lockridge8 жыл бұрын
Seb Cal also make sure to get the right antenna. There's RP-SMA and SMA. SMA is the American standard, but a lot of cheap Chinese video transmitters (some of which which work quite well) come with RP-SMA. There are adapters you can get for a buck or two if necessary
@dev.lockridge8 жыл бұрын
Seb Cal this combo is what I have and I really like it. It is CMOS, which in certain situations isn't as good as CCD, but it's a great start. It does have RP-SMA, so make sure get an adapter. It is possible to get good RP-SMA antennas, but I've found them to be more expensive. @ulaB8 жыл бұрын
Hm. The Hobbyking product page mentions that a "6-7 Channel Transmitter and Receiver" is required. The transmitter is what you hold in your hand to control the aircraft, the receiver is what's in the plane and receives the data from your transmitter. Both have to speak the same language ("protocol"). So you need a corresponding receiver to your transmitter. Both need to have 6-7 Channels as Hobbyking suggests.

Yes. P3 as well as most video rigs shoot in 16:9. One additional note. The V3 seem to be the best if you switch back and forth from formats. For myself, seeing a slight horizontal stretch is not bothersome...almost even hard to notice. BUT using HD2 to watch a 16:9 format is weird...it "squeezes" the image inward.
