Remember that by doing this you are also boosting the level of the snare and that may be contributing to the effect of it sounding better. Though I do love phat snares with lots of fundamental.

Hi thanks for the video. DEQ’s are a powerful tool. My favorite is FabFilter q3. Listening to your video in the car- I noticed while the snare does sound better and phat, the kick sounds better to me when it’s bypassed. Maybe I’m just nitpicking…

How did you determine that a ratio of 10:1 was needed?
@DrewBrashler
@DrewBrashler 11 ай бұрын
The ratio on the DEQ adjusts how much level can be applied by the DEQ. A smaller ratio would give less of a boost/cut and the larger ratio would give more of a boost/cut. I know I wanted the biggest boost here, so I set it to the 10:1. Hope that helps!

How did you set up the signal chain between DEQ, GATE, COMP, and PEQ on the snare channel? And why? Tks!
@jakevalencia8586
@jakevalencia8586 11 ай бұрын
What do you mean exactly? On the wing, the Signal chain is the entire left column. Starting from Gains/LC/HC to the bottom panning. If you are talking about a tap point to send to buses then that is set differently

On the Wing, select the channel, and if you hit the wrench icon at the bottom left, you are able to change the order of the Insert, Gate, EQ, and Compressor. You can place them in any order you want on a per channel basis.

I have looked for how to get 64 to 96 inputs for either x32 and m32. And no one has done any tutorials for that although they state that they can take more than the 40 inputs they have😢😢
@DrewBrashler
@DrewBrashler 11 ай бұрын
You are not able to mix more than 32 main channels and 6 aux channels (8 if you include the USB recorder/playback). The only way you would be able to mix more than the 38 channels would be to have multiple sub-mixers feeding their LR mix into another mixer. If you are needing to have 64 to 96 inputs, I would be looking at a different mixer like the Behringer Wing or a large format mixer like the Yamaha PM series, Avid VENUE series, or DiGiCo mixers.

I wish you would make a video on a set up that have all the channels from 1 to 48 already set up for playing your gear through each channel and already set for protocols and DAW control for Harrison Mixbus and two channels Studio comming back from the computer so you don’t have to touch it also with the he’d set working I can’t used my headphones cause does not not have volume so I cant control the volume and the control knob already set up cause It does not work A studio without a control knob and headphone knob is irrigating and the AES50 set up at all times like a default That’s what Bara should have done and then if you wanna customize it, you can customize it and save it. We should not have to turn on the headphone and turn on the control knob why did behringer do that it would be nice drew if you can reach out to them to do a up day of a default for recording to the daw and play back from the computer already set everything ready to go like a analogue mixer they can call it the analogue defaults that’s the way it should be coming straight out of the box and if you want it where you got to send it then that should be a mole that you can just switch to nothing working for those who like to have that thanks my name is James Wilson I had the x32 now I have the wing

These videos are making me want to try a Wing. I’ve been put off by all the negative reviews, but now I’m wondering what all the hate was about? These kind of features make me want to try it!
@adaptink
@adaptink 11 ай бұрын
The thing with the Wing is that the guys didn't have "time/patience" to change their M32/X32 workflow and get on a learning curve. I didn't listen to the "techies" and "their ways" of getting things done. Best decision ever in term of processing power. Maybe not the most "premium" board in terms of faders quality and stuff...but...I love it! (the negative reviews were about a faulty batch of touchscreens that went into production...in the pandemic period every major manufacturer were in shortage of part components, people got mad about not being able to repair their boards). I bought it last year and worked flawless since.

@@adaptink ahhh. That makes sense. Thanks for the context! I just avoided the negative reviews, but I did winter what all the hate was about. For the price it seems like a pretty solid option. I’m an A&H guy but try to stay up to date with Behringer and Midas stuff since it so prevalent in the church music space
@DrewBrashler
@DrewBrashler 11 ай бұрын
Good points @adaptink. I think the main thing that was different between the X32/M32 and the Wing was the routing workflow. You have to plan the input sources and the destinations. But once you have your head wrapped around that it is a very flexible mixer with a lot of processing power.
@adaptink
@adaptink 11 ай бұрын
@@DrewBrashler spot on. For me, coming from a studio engineer experience, i needed to get to a flexibility level similar to a DAW. In the budget range, the Wing was the closest thing to what i wanted in terms of IO connectivity and processing power. Plus the power of Mixing Station = best combo. All the best, great work behind your videos, much appreciated.
@adaptink
@adaptink 11 ай бұрын
@@JamesEatonMedia It's like a cheaper SQ6, with less IO, but with much more processing power(). If you don't mind the 96k vs 48k latency difference(0.7 ms vs 1.2 ms) and the fact that you need to buy the extra plugins. For me, the Wing was the best choice.

My biggest issue is the Snare killing it in the room. It's a very live room. Snare hardly makes it into my FOH mix.

Wouldn't you try and tune the snare instead of bandaiding the snare for this type of sound?
@Rythym4god
@Rythym4god 11 ай бұрын
If you had that option, and the drummer was good with it, then absolutely. But sometimes that route isn’t available to you. Especially if, as an example, you were doing a broadcast mix. It may sound fantastic in the auditorium, and to the drummer, but for broadcast you want more
@dlcarburetor
@dlcarburetor 11 ай бұрын
I would prefer the snare sound the way you want from the start but not all musicians are skilled at tuning or willing to do so. The method Drew shows here is great for fixing the sound as an engineer.
@DrewBrashler
@DrewBrashler 11 ай бұрын
All good points here. I would ALWAYS fix the sound at the source with a different mic, mic placement, or if the drummer allows it a different tuning. But sometimes if the heads on the drumset are super old you have to get creative!
