A little analysis on Thor. His character at the beginning if the Marvel franchise was cocky and arrogant, sometimes brooding. He had a sense of humor, though along with a sense of superiority to the tiny, petty humans. His character started getting more comfortable and his humor came more forward when he loosened up and began to see the Avengers on equal footing, maybe even to the point of insecurity at times. The events during and right before Ragnarok had a profound effect in humbling Thor. His mother was killed. His father died. He lost his hammer. He found out he had an evil sister and his Father's past was all a lie. His best Asgardian friends were all killed by said sister. Hela killed all of Asgard's military. Thor lost his hair. Look at his interaction with Loki in the Gladiator prison. At that point Thor was just done. Nonchalant humor and being completely laid back was his coping. After Infinity War, completely laid back became near completely apathetic. Of all the character to turn into a fat, goofy, broken, drunk, Thor's made the most sense.

@luxel33656 ай бұрын
2 years late but I want to add to the analysis: To say that "after Infinity War, Thor goes from nonchalant to apathetic" is an understatement. That was the event that completely broke him. An Asgardian, guarding the realms and always considering everyone else being tiny, ultimately was responsible for 'deaths' of half the population of the galaxies. All over a 'tiny' mistake. Yet, as broken as he was, in the scene where he flamed Noobmaster69, it wasn't for himself, it was for Grok. At his core, he is the big brother, not just for Loki but for everyone else, and that still hasn't changed despite being at his lowest, despite already given up on everything else (as his mom said, "measure of a man is how he succeed at being who he is"). The only difference is he's a lot closer to human now, to the point he says he's 'totally' from the future to his mother. But of course, his main source of strength but also the beginning of his trauma is still from Asgard. And it is portrayed through his incoherent ramblings at Avenger briefing that just run circles around the things over there, about things that 'started it all' on his spiral path. Psychologically, it was a perfect portrayal of how broken people always obssessively talk about the origin of what made them became who they are today, trying to make sense of it all while ignoring everything else that's happening. The only way that he could have participate in another 'galaxies are at stake' fight and still have a peace of mind to joke around in Endgame, is for him to first resolve all his past troubles. And the only way to resolve it, is talking with his mom and be assured that he still has the strength to be that big brother that can take care of everyone else. Endgame was damn near perfect not because it was just 'fat Thor', but in screen that many people consider throwaway like Fortnite, it still shows he wants to stand up for someone else. They could have easily have it just him on the controller and screaming at the screen by himself, but then that would not show his character. He could have chosen any other way to punish himself too, but it wouldn't have fit a character whose main attribute is strength and being worthy. When you're good this one thing, and then fail at it, this is how you let go, by trying to keep failing at this one thing you was good at, to prove to yourself that you were never good at it in the first place, and the part that you fail is the real you. And having beer belly and self-indulge in trivial things is the epitome of proving you neither have strength nor being worthy. He could have hide away, not talking to anyone and just starve himself wallowing in self-pity, but again, it wouldn't be Thor and it wouldn't be how he copes. The realism of this potrayal might turn off some people because they'd say that a being as mighty as Thor is impervise to such a humanly trait. But those people might not recognize, or never gone through it to understand, that depression isn't a disease you just caught, it is You as a rational being reacting to something that completely changes you. And Thor is very much a rational being. If he truly believes he deserve to become a fat loser, then it's not hard to imagine his body would adjust accordingly to self-fulfill his own desire. But a testament to how consistent and accurate the character writings for Thor is how people reacting to him talking to his mom. In an otherwise a seemingly normal scene without much tearjerking elements, many people would cry, because they recognize how powerful that scene is for his entire character's journey. That recognition is only by being able to deeply relate with the character, even if he is a mighty god who's supposed to be the furthest thing from a human. Only a few other show can evoke this sort of reaction, like Stranger Thing, or Doctor Who's Vincent episode. And they manage to do it not just with Thor, but also Captain, and Tony. That era truly is something we might not be able to witness again for a long time.

The funny thing is thats how The real Norse mythology thor looks like. He ate a whole Ox by himself and 9 salmon and 3 whole Cow sized wine barrels. The Norse mythology thor is built like a World strong man a big belly. He’s got a fat bulk. 💀 but some marvel fans just cannot accept that it suits his drunk personality too in the actual history thor is seen to drink hundreds of barrels of wine or beer.

@antona.86592 жыл бұрын
1. The funny thing is, there's no "the real Norse mythology Thor". There's just Thor, an old Germanic deity that rerepesented working class. 2. Oh, so there were grandma-sewn sweaters and croks back in the Viking Age? Thor doesn't look like this moron in Endgame. He wouldn't even have braids in his hair or beard because there's no evidence to suggest that Vikings did that. 3. So what? It was for contest. Loki also took part in it and beat Thor. Would you be fine with Loki being depicted as fat, too? Get this through your head, Thor never was fat in myths. Thor wasn't even a person to Norse Pagans. He was a symbol of the working class, a protector of mankind. If we were to imagine what he'd look like according to the people who worshipped him, ai the working class farmers and warriors, he'd be fit, because you don't get to go fat if you're a farmer or a Viking - you're constantly working out. 4. Why would myths suddenly matter here? They sure didn't matter when Taika Waititi turned Ragnarok into Ragnajoke and you MCU fans ate it up like it was dinner. This is Marvel's Thor, and Marvel's Thor shouldn't be fat, shouldn't wear pajamas or croks, and shouldn't talk like a millennial.

Tony went through a lot and people seem to want to ignore that.

Aside from the fact that he was the butt of a few jokes in the movie, I loved this portrayal of Thor. They took this larger than life character and made him relatable and heartbreaking. This was really Thor’s lowest low. He’d never experienced losing on a scale like that before, especially since him not killing Thanos caused Thanos to wipe out half of everything. It was awesome to see him still be worthy and put up one hell of a fight in the final battle.
