I’m now 6’0 170 and I played on my school’s football team basketball team and I ran track. Being fat is 60% a choice, 30% cultural/upbringing, and 10% genetics. It’s a fact that a lot American food is fattening but depending of your makeup and upbringing, people just have to eat in a way they won’t become overweight. And don’t forget food is highly addictive especially sugary foods and drinks which most Americans consumes. There’s a lot of factors that goes into someone being fat but at the end of the day it’s ultimately a choice. If you can work and make money, create a whole family and deal with the tribulations of that, then you can definitely find a way to lose weight.

Exactly, a lot of people do not understand the MANY factors that go into weight loss, especially with access to the right foods. An example is a parent not being able to afford the “right” foods for their multiple children or family members. There are a ton of factors especially the cultural/upbringings which I think is the toughest to change. Losing weight is so different when you’re in the negative side of each of the factors you said, but not everyone can empathize and understand that.

Super commendable, especially since most of yall are really young and impressionable. It's okay to hold people accountable, but respect and sympathy plays a big part if you want to ACTUALLY see improvement from that person. Cruelty is self-motivated and is never meant to actually inspire anyone. In this case, that is losing weight. We can preach "calories in, calories out" all day long without a care for context, but no one will ever know that struggle unless they're in those shoes. Too many factors are in play with weightloss, especially if bad eating habits were engrained in your mind from infancy. Add the stressors of adulthood, and it's suddenly even more difficult fighting against everything you know

I'm a 3rd year dietetic student. I don't think people realize how many FDA approved additives we have in our food in America that are ILLEGAL in other countries. There are people who essentially have to starve themselves or put 10+ hours/week in the gym to keep weight off because the food and ingredients we have accessible to us in this country are destroying us. When I start to see my own patients do you think me shaming them will work? Of course not. Weight loss is an individualistic multifactorial process that is not as simple as "calories in calories out". Ideally, it would be that simple! but telling that to the wrong person could inevitably kill them. Without compassion and patience you are just being a hater who never intended to help anyone.

I agree with you to a point but it's 100x easier to cut stuff out than build stuff up. My friend eats ridiculously and doesn't put on any weight. Putting on weight with a very high metabolism is expensive and time consuming and for some you literally have to force feed yourself and feel sick. Losing weight is 100% harder for some but that's in the form of like not losing as many calories during sleep or something. You don't just spawn fat eating a healthy amount like you can as a skinny person. You can always start running, wear a weighted vest, etc. Eat less and more healthy, that literally saves you money. Its simpler to lose weight, if you put the work in to lose more calories than you gain, you lose weight. Simple. You can always crank up how many calories you lose, not always how many you gain. A skinny person can eat 2-3x the amount of calories that's "healthy" for their weight, age, height, etc. And still not gain a pound

I think Myron got right the "you're complaining about your treatment when there are people getting bombed in Gaza" point. I mean, people in Gaza are starving to death, whereas some people in America are eating themselves to death. Obesity is a first world problem, but it is a problem, nonetheless. Obviously, there are nuances. Some people have higher set points of weight where they can be healthy, and some people have health issues that make it difficult for them to control their weight. Zach looks like someone who does exercise/eat decently but has a high set point, while the others are on their journey toward reaching a healthy lifestyle, as mentioned in the video.
@Randomperson111215 ай бұрын
it’s not “set point” is “basal metabolic rate” aka the amount of calories your body burns at rest, guess what, no matter what it is if you eat less calories than you burn it’s mathematically impossible to gain weight, energy/matter can neither be created nor destroyed so saying that some people can’t lose weight even if they cut down their calories lower than their bmr is essentially implying they’re creating matter and energy out of nothing
@jaxr.s.46475 ай бұрын
@@Randomperson11121 set point is a theory, but it is not the same thing as BMR. Set point is the weight that your body tries tries to maintain when you're eating nutritious foods to satiety by manipulating your hunger and energy levels to make you want to eat or move to different degrees until your weight regulates to that range. There is some evidence behind it, but those following a standard western diet and sedentary lifestyle are going to be far from it, so it is a bit useless to them until they improve their lifestyles. Obviously, none of the fat guys besides maybe Zach are anywhere close to the weight at which they could be considered healthy, the theory just suggests that you can probably be a size 8 and still be healthy, no need to be a size 2. BMR is how many calories you burn combining your NEET and activity, it's just a different concept altogether. Set point theory does not negate CICO, it just provides an explanation for plateauing due to your body manipulating hormones.
@Randomperson111215 ай бұрын
@@jaxr.s.4647 of course your body would try to maintain whatever physical condition it finds itself, it’s called homeostasis. it’s up to you to lower your calories so your body would have to “burn fat” and adapt to a new so called “set point”, it’s like when you move from a hotter continent to a colder one, initially you’d barely be able to survive a minute outside without mountains of clothing because your body still wants to maintain the conditions it was in when in a different continent, but if you expose your body to different environment and circumstances it eventually adapts and then maintains itself in that situation, in this case possibly increasing your metabolism so you’d be able to keep warm. it’s called homeostasis, it’s mathematically impossible for you to eat less calories than your body needs and still gain weight, it’s all a matter of discipline to train your body to a new homeostasis

On the point of Myron, or whatever, discussing how he gained then lost the weight. He had intention. He gained with the intention to use the tools and knowledge he had to get it off. Some people are fat from childhood. Some people become fat because of mental health issues or health issues. How you got to the point of being fat can determine how hard it is for you to lose it. If all you know is being fat (like from childhood) then you don’t know where or how to start or how to stay consistent because no one taught you or told you. Not all things are straight black and white. If it was I don’t think the Jubilee video would be a thing.

I am aware that depression is real im not saying it isn't but unless you are going through a significant breakup, like a divource and fighting for custody of your children or about to go homeless etc depression most definitely "isn't real" in the sense people claim it is, A mass majority of depressed people i've spoken to and interated with always have it stim from being too lazy to fix an issue like their own physique or not working on socializing etc

I got down to 150 pounds and I damn near couldn’t get skinnier but somehow still felt fat all the time. I am nowhere how I once was but periodically still catch myself having bad relations with food (in terms of only allowing myself to eat things that are “healthy”) I feel like you have to sympathize with bigger people because it’s a lot mentally to lose weight. Especially if you always grown up as the “bigger kid.” Just wanted to give you guys a different take because I felt like you guys were pretty passionate about how no one should be fat, which is understandable but it’s definitely a battle to lose weight and have a great mental state when you are a fatter individual.

I rarely work out, eat more junk than I should and I'm a slim person who finds it hard to gain weight. It can be exasperated by an unhealthy lifestyle, but that is not the root cause

It’s funny how everyone is saying Myron is telling the hard truth or not sugarcoating. The problem is Myron is acting like the things he is saying applies to everyone, when they only apply to some people. And to all the people saying he is speaking facts, you have no personal experience or research to withdraw from, just assumptions. Anyone who has been fat from childhood knows how hard it is. If all you know is being skinny, and you never had to put much thought into it, then how are you so sure you know someone else’s experience in their body? There is literal scientific evidence that shows that there is a genetic predisposition to obesity. It doesn’t mean that it’s an excuse, but it gives some understanding that it my be harder for some people than others.
@cracksangamergg93157 ай бұрын
As someone who was about 300lbs and is now 200 I do believe Myron is primarily speaking facts. From him saying bullying works, that people choose not to put in the effort, that your less attractive, tend to be less confident, and so forth. It's his delivery that throws people off and away from the point hes making. He's being blunt, and people can respond negatively from that
@collinracer25067 ай бұрын
It doesn't matter if your fat from childhood, as long as you don't have a condition that makes you fat then it's just about discipline and doing what you have to do. He's aware of the fact that there are special cases but most of the time it's from not being disciplined. Look at some other comments man there are a ton of formerly fat people saying that Myron is right but ig you just refuse the believe that.

I dunno about some of y’all, but shame definitely worked for me. I was on a theme park ride with my step sister that spun around really fast and I guess I sat on the wrong side of the seat because the way I was spinning was making me push against her, to the point of her just screaming “Your so fat!” And I knew that I was always a big kid but that definitely gave me pause, and then I played it off. It took a few months, but I’ve been in the gym for about a year now and at 18 I feel and look a lot better and I’m still working on it. The thing about experiences like that is that it always reminds me of what I used to look like. I can look at myself and see things that reminds me of that chubby kid on the ride, namely my stretch marks. It’s that driving factor that I don’t think will ever go away for me, but without it, I wouldn’t be in the physical shape I am right now.
