Have only played Fatal Labyrinth however I love the Shining Force series so this will be my vote this time. Fun fact on Climax Entertainment the developers of Shining in the Darkness: It was founded by Hiroshi Naito who was the chief programmer that worked on the early Dragon Quest games and left Chunsoft during the development of Dragon Quest IV. He founded the company with Hiroyuki Takahashi who was an assistant at Enix before.

the reason why the genre is called Rogue like is because the very first game to use that style was Rogue in 1980 and there has been a bunch of games that copied that style hence the name rogue like. i think both games are cool in their own ways but i think shining in the darkness has a cooler presentation and i usually like first person dungeon crawlers a lot more then rougue likes where i do find fatal labyrinth is a bit ugly but its a much easier game to jump into and play.
