Totally enjoyed your video. I just started cycling jun/30/2017 first ride was 3.5 km and now sep/08/2017 I am up, 25 km per ride. I can hardly wait to be able to do a trip like yours. BTW! I am 65 yrs old and a double organ transplant recipient, but I will get there!

Best channel, ever. 10:56 section shows incredible off trail bicycling, this is what I enjoy the most. Going wild, for the stretches, showing how difficult is the traveling through wild forest! Moments like this, you earn your name! Thankyou so much for showing how difficult it is, and how long you tried to get through.

I liked how the logistics are mixed in such as having to backtrack after four hours, hike a bike, and dealing with no bicyling signs. Not just a highlight reel. Cool music from a 1980’s kickboxing movie.

Love your work Foresty! really love that you're pretty self sufficient and not paying all that money to the oil companies, I do wonder how you keep your energy levels up, I'm not a cyclist so I would be keen to know how far you would ride on average each day and how often you need to eat and what food you eat while you're on the road? anyway great videos thanks for sharing them. Cheers mate!
@notgaryoldman11784 жыл бұрын
Based on the time taken and the distance travelled for some of his tours, he seems to be averaging between 40 miles a day and 60 miles a day. However, that's almost entirely offroad, with close to 100 pounds of added gear (I'm guessing, but it wouldn't be far wrong), and on very wide Fatbike tyres...that's serious going. Clearly, that takes _years_ of leg conditioning.

Welcome to the great state of Maine Simon! I’m sorry you had a rough go of it. The Katahdin region is a beautiful place. It’s pretty awesome to see you riding past so many places that are familiar to me, and even showing some of the Whoopie pies that are to be found nearly everywhere throughout the state. The Deer Fly is the unofficial Maine State Bird. And yeah, when it comes to google maps never trust what you see in the backwoods areas. I found that out the hard way when I delivered for Fed-Ex in the Bingham/Forks area. Ended up thinking a dirt road would be a shortcut quickly to discover I was on a snowmobile trail. Blew a tire getting out. Was a long day. Anyway… After watching so many of your videos now , and seeing you pass through my home state as well as having traveled through many of the areas in the southwest that I have also traveled, as well as sometimes posting quotes from my favorite author (Ed Abbey) I feel as though we are kindred spirits. Would be awesome to someday meet up and have a beer and a hike with you! Until then, keep living your dream!

Another moving piece of artwork... Excellent! Hoping in the near future you will do an assessment of using a Fat Tire bike (Pro's/Con's - Suggestions) for these types of offroad/backroad cycling trips since you have gone through the high mountain deserts and boreal forested trails ~
@forestyforest7 жыл бұрын
Short answer... I was doing the same mileage on the fat bike as I did on the old hybrid with 1.5" tires. I felt kind of silly riding all the pavement but it went ok. It handles gravel like a champ though. The biggest factor is the amount of weight you carry.
@countingcoup7 жыл бұрын
You have logged so many miles on the other bikes, its good to hear your compare with the fat tire. Funny I could hear your tires in this video when you were on the pavement, and it was giving me indication of your speed although I can imagine you might be turning up the video speed to get certain scenery in... Anyway, thanks for the response, I am curious if you finally made the move to setting your bike up with tubeless tires and if you have thought about putting a dyno-hub on your fat tire bike ~
@forestyforest7 жыл бұрын
Nah I just ran tubes for this tour. I didn't get any flats over the whole tour. If I go back to the desert I will probably add some sealant into the tubes like people have said. I carried a 10,000 mah battery pack on this tour and it did the trick. Days were so long, plenty of time to sit in a library to recharge.

I went on the Carataqui trail off of Smith's falls same year (2017). Terrible floods. Had to carry my bike some 400 m 2x. Good idea you had to go up to Bankroft. I went in exactly the same place you did on the Trans Can close to Perth. I love how you take the time to visit every little bit of countryside. Tu dois continuer @ explorer le Québec pour nous faire découvrir de nouveaux coins! Très bonnes vidéos!

Awesome video! What an accomplishment. I've ridden most of the trails you used in Ontario. There are many more in the region to discover too. North of Perth, there are so many underused trails and awesome campsites. Stay safe on the logging roads!
