I've noticed that Fate has given me respect for all sorts of legends, even ones for characters who clearly do bad things. It's not that I forgive them, but I can certainly understand them better. Has Fate given you a better outlook on a certain legend?

Not only did the fate series gave me a new outlook in a lot of legends, but it also boosted my taste in history itself. Giving characters a more "humane" background and personality makes them easier to sympathize. In a way, i think fate has paid a great sum of respect to older legends which were basicaly forgotten by everyone besides historians, giving them a new batch of fans is the best way i can possibly think to keep their memory alive.

Before I got into Fate, I only recognized Achilles as "the man who died by getting shot in the heel", but after learning about his character in Apocrypha, I delved deeper into his actual legend and achievements and found great respect for the man. Now, he's not only one of my favorite Riders, but one of my favorite Greek heroes.

The parallels between Gilgamesh and Ramses are intriguing. While they are similar and do get along, there's another layer to it: Gilgamesh only considers Enkidu his equal Ramses only considers Moses his equal BUT For the former, he was his enemy before he became his closest friend For the latter, he was his closest friend before he became his enemy

One other difference is that Ozymandias isn't nearly as arrogant as Gil. They're both prideful fucks, but Ozymandias still respects Arash as a true hero, while for Gilgamesh, if you aren't Enkidu, you're but a mongrel.

In a real battle, I think Ozymandias has no real chance against Gilgamesh. Enuma Elish would destroy his temple, and then Ozymandias himself. *Even though I prefer Ozy over Gil, the golden fucker is just too strong.*

Didn't know that one. If Ozy is in his temple, there's not much Gilgamesh can do, since as we saw with King Hassan, he'll just stand back up from decapitation or any harm made to his body.

yes actually, Fate has given me a better outlook on the legend of Medusa, Athena is always jealous, the gorgon avenger form of Medusa in grand order is said to be only born from false rumors Athena fabricated because she was jealous of Medusa's beauty (in fate anyways, it's implied that Athena would have cursed Rider regardless of Poseidon's actions, rape in her temple was just an excuse) the gorgon is just like Assasin of Red having the gardens (the only thing true is that Medusa turned people who came into the island into stone while having her usual form we see in stay night). Also didn't Athena turn Arachne into a spider because she was jealous of her weaving skills ?
@justanunluckyirishmaninabl5178
@justanunluckyirishmaninabl5178 5 жыл бұрын
It’s a bit more complicated than that. Arachne had boasted that her weaving skills surpassed even the goddess Athena. In response, Athena dared the arrogant girl to prove her ability in a contest. While the goddess of wisdom won by a landslide, she was still impressed by the work of her mortal opponent. Arachne had put every ounce of effort and passion she had into her piece, yet her defeat was absolutely devastating and she began to despair. Athena wanted to acknowledge Arachne’s talent, but found her hanging from a tree with an elegantly woven noose around her neck, life slipping from her eyes. Thus the disheartened goddess took pity upon the girl and turned her into a spider so she and the children she bred may weave beautiful works eternally.

@redbone9553

Well the winner of the duel is rather ambiguous . Since there is multiple version of the duel between Arachne and Athena, it would be hard to tell who actually won the duel. Some myth said Arachne won, some say she lost and some also said that it was a tie. When Arachne tied with Athena, Athena was angered for 3 reason. 1. Arachne disgraced the gods with her weaving, 2. Athena refused to accept that a mortal to have the same skill as her and 3. Athena did not win the competition. I personally like the myth this result of the duel since it shows how the Greek gods/Roman gods have mortal emotion as well, displaying their flaws. Also, for Medusa, there is one version of the myth behind the transformation to a gorgon which I really like. Medusa and her sisters were devout follower of Athena and would pray to Athena in her sacred temple everyday and one day Poseidon saw Medusa praying to Athena and was he was infatuated by her beauty. The following day, Poseidon went into Athena's temple and violated Medusa. Athena was angered by the Poseidon lack of care for her temple and in her rage, she turn Medusa and her sisters into gorgons. They became extremely ugly being and she and her sister went to a secluded island in hope to never be seen by any living. Of course that didn't go her way and her death can be consider rather tragic.
@jy3n2
@jy3n2 5 жыл бұрын
That's only one version of the story. In another, Athena transformed her for either surpassing her or weaving a tapestry of all of Zeus's infidelity.
@JuanRodriguez-ox6is
@JuanRodriguez-ox6is 5 жыл бұрын
Athenas original story with arachne is to teach a lesson about hubris. Archne was to full of herself and despite being given several chances by Athena to basically chill, she still goes out of her way to insult the gods(Athenas family). Athena turning her into a spider is from pity after arachne kills herself from the shame. Stories after we're written to specifically put Athena in a bad light. I wouldn't trust those. As for medusa(fgo lore is pretty wrong anyway) some older stories say she was born as the gorgon. In fgo she became a monster out of her own actions that her sisters tried to warn her no to indulge in killing people. She became a beast that swallowed Euryale and Stheno.

@@Justic_ as a religious jew and a person who studies worldwide folklore & mythology as a hobby allow me to correct you on a few things: 1. The journey through the desert did not take 80 years- it only took 40 years- the entire event with the spies thst resulted in the punishment of an additional 40 years to the journey happened 3 month after they left egypt (in this timeframe the events at mt. Sinai and the golden calf took place as well)- the whole point of the punishment was that the older generation (the ones that caused the spy incident in the first place) to die out of old age since they were no longer worthy of entering the holy land) the journey was originally supposed to take only a few months 2. Everyone knows Moses died at the age of 120, what most people dont know is that he was already 80 when the jews left egypt- he had fled egypt when he was 20 and didn't return for another 60 years- besides what the book of exodus tells us the records I've come across were pretty vague about the events that took place in those 60 years- some said that he was the king of an african country and some say he lived a nomadic life with his wife and father-in law until he had the vision of the burning bush

Here are some facts about Ozymandias, the Historical one: - His name Ozymandias is a Greek translation from his Egyptian name Userma’atre’setepenre, which means 'Keeper of Harmony and Balance, Strong in Right, Elect(or justice) of Ra’. -Actually, Ozymandias is not the P haraoh anymore scholars believed him to be the one from the Bible. In none of the Egyptian sources and any archaeological findings, were evidences found that there was an oppression of Isrealites in his reign, he was to busy conquering other lands and building temples for something like that. Instead Tutmose II is the most likely candidate for being the Pharaoh in the exodus story, he is even said to have been killed in a battle near the Red sea ane he did have issues with the newly conquered Israelis. -He spend most of his time waging wars against the Sea People(some mysterious people wjo raided many cities around the eastern Mediterranean coastsj, Lybians, Nubians, Canaanites( basically a Civilization who lived in what would be Isreal) his biggest enemies, the Hitties and thier King Mutawalli II( (he should be voiced by the guy, who did in the Japanese Dub Jotaro) in the battle of Kadesh. Ramses II made however the mistake of Dividing hsi troops in four divisions with the Chariot army being destroyed by the Hittites and the remaining troops being surrounded by the Hittites, only to be beaten by Ramses II and put to flights, but being unable to conquer Kadesh, his main objective. Later on he made a peace treaty with the Hittites and created the oldest known peace treaty in the world( why didn't Type-Moon do anything with it?). -Afterwards he spend most of his time building new Temples like the one in Abu simbel and even his new Capital Pi-Ramses in Egypt, so that he will be remembered even until death. -Ramesses lived to be ninety-six years old, had over 200 wives and concubines, ninety-six sons and sixty daughters, most of whom he outlived. He was also very tall, his size is estimated to be roughly around 1-80 Cm(no I am using the metric system, no chance here). Not only that, but he is speculated to have been a Ginger as the DNA test suggests that he had red hair in his youth. So he would look more like Iskander than gis version of Fate/Prototype(why Type-Moon, didn't you do anything with it).

If we go by more strict history, the Pharaoh of the Exodus was probably not Ramses II, but either: Neferhotep, Amnehotep I or II, or Thutmose.

Now I don't feel so damn bad about pulling 3 copies of this guy. And as a free to play player. 1 from a single pull on his rate up, 1 from guarantee banner, And 1 from the davinci banner. As a master who summonable this guy (without a catalyst) I see it as kinda my responsibility to make Shure no one else can summon this guy again once the war with Solomon is over. Ideally Return his body to it's final resting place and have his wife buried next to him with the necklace. Not much else one could do. If so than I am not aware anyway that's all for now.

Prince of Egypt is honestly, now that I think about it, one of the best executions of the story of Moses/Rameses Superbook's was kinda on the nose, the Live Action didnt have the remorse portion. With the Prince of Egypt ver. I wondered if Rameses truly longed for the days long gone when he and his brother were still together.

"The firstborn he cherishes along with Nefertari, helplessly dies"....I take it that this means the child he and Nefertari cherished died, not that the child AND Nefertari died (which wouln't make sense anyway since she has another child after this, as you mention in the video)? It's just a bit awkwardly said and can be interpreted as meaning both of them died. Anyway, glad Ozy got a good lore and mythological background video. I do think mentioning the historical side of his feats along with the Biblical myths would have been cool (namely, his war against the Hittites and the Battle of Kadesh, as well was his conquests and various monuments being briefly mentioned), it would have helped flesh out his character as the historical Ramesses II along with the Ozymandias persona that is more well known. Either way though, great job, keep up the good Nasuverse lore summaries!

Each of the ten plagues corresponds with a major Egyptian deity, challenging their power or mocking their impotence. For each plague, the priests of the pharaoh tries to stop the destruction and fails. This was the Hebrew god proving His supremacy over the gods of Egypt and the magicians of the pharaoh's court. 1) Nile to blood: Hapi, god of the Nile 2) Frogs: Heket, goddess of fertility (she had a frog' head) 3) Lice from the dust: Geb, god of earth. 4) Wild beasts attack: This one is kinda tricky, because the Hebrew simply implies that a swarm of creatures attack. This was likely pests/vermin, not fullscale beasts, as this was an assault on Khekri, the fly-headed god. Many translations/scholars call this a plague of flies, not wild beasts. 5) Diseased livestock: Hathor, goddess of love and protection (often depicted as cow-headed) 6) Boils and sores from ash and soot: Isis, goddess of medicine and health 7) Hailstorm: Nut, goddess of the sky 8) Locust swarm: Seth, god of storms, chaos and disorder (often called Set, sometimes considered evil/antagonistic, but he was revered by some in different periods) 9) Three days of darkness: Ra, god of the sun 10) Death of firstborn sons: In Egypt, the Pharaoh was literally a god on earth. He was as holy in the religion as any god. To take his people, and his son, was the ultimate insult. Now, this is a subject of some minor debate, but the book of Exodus *explicitly* declares *multiple* times that God hardens Pharaoh's heart. The theory is God wanted to prove his power over other gods and living kings, both to his forsaken people and their non-Jewish neighbors and rivals, so he potentially forced Pharaoh's stuborness to disgrace each god and thoroughly break Pharaoh's spirit. Another point is that Ramses II/Ozymandias was not the Pharaoh of Exodus. There are no records (and the Egyptians were *obsessive* record-keepers) or archaeological evidence of mass enslavement of Israelites or their mass exodus under Ramses II. Ramses II became a popular face for the Pharaoh of Exodus, but he is never named in the Bible and nothing in history suggests the events of Exodus occurred under his reign. As for when they occurred, I respectfully acknowledge that it is a matter of religion, but academically speaking we have yet to discover any evidence of a mass exodus of Jewish slaves from Egypt. While we can't sat for certain who the Pharaoh of the Exodus was or if it truly occurred, we can confirm it was not Ramses II. He simply became the most popular candidate. But in the Fate universe, a mix of myth, history and perception create Servants, so Ramses II being thr Pharaoh of Exodus makes perfect sense, because .any people think he was.

Near them on the sand, Half sunk, a shatter'd visage lies, whose frown And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamp'd on these lifeless things, The hand that mock'd them and the heart that fed. And on the pedestal these words appear: "My name is Ozymandias, king of kings: Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!" Nothing beside remains: round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare, The lone and level sands stretch far away.
