Fate Lore - The Tale of Shirou Emiya

As requested, I bring to you the Tale of Shirou Emiya. I've gathered all the information I possess about this guy, which means there are tons of spoilers. Though I feel that's obvious. He's one of the few servants who are completely fictional and not based off an actual legend or piece of folklore, but I did my best in giving him the same treatment as the others so far. I can understand why people don't like him, but his growth and change is immense throughout all 3 routes and in the visual novel. He's deeper than most people think and he changes a lot in the routes in awesome ways. To think I found him annoying at first.

Funny, when I started playing Fate GO, I got Archer via special event ticket. I didn’t Max him out, but he was my go to guy. Few months later I accidental deleted my file due to my phone’s memory being full and lost everyone. Filled with sadness and regret i started new game, wishing i have everyone back but i knew that wouldn’t be possible. Once the tutorial for multi summon started i thought it’ll be the same summons i got last time, but the last summon got me. ...It was Emiya.

Shirous origin wasn't Sword at first. It was something else. The fire and drawback erased his origin and he was blank both mentally and impulsively. This is why his ideals are so concrete. Though his ideals were borrowed it replaced the blankness and carved the Shirou we know today and over time Avalon changed his origin to Sword.

Accelerator it's said by idiots who started with Zero or only saw DEEN's version. Shirou is one of the most interesting characters in Fate/Stay Night, especially as you learn more about him and delve deeper into his mind and how he ticks. "He's a shitty self-insert, he's a sexist woman hater. Etc" like..ugh stop, PLEASE stop, because it's clear they've got no idea what they're saying. I'm willing to maybe say Shirou says some sexist sounding things, but that's on rare occasions and it's usually because of unique circumstances going on, and not because those are his beliefs. The worst was when I went to a TYPE-MOON panel at an convention recently, and the host literally wouldn't stop insulting Shirou, praising Kiritsugu, and saying the only slightly good thing about Shirou, was that he became Archer. It was to the point where I literally walked out of the panel, because I didn't wanna listen to him anymore.

Technically, it's wrong to say Avalon 'changed' his origin. I may be splitting hairs here but...Indeed... Shirou basically did die during the Fuyuki Fire. That's why, whatever his origin was, it vanished... because mentally and physically Shirou had already passed the point of no return by the time Kiritsugu found him. In the VN Shirou says his mind had 'already accepted death' and that 'his body had already started to shut down.' Then Kiritsugu decides to stick one of the most in-universe over-powered legendary artifacts in existence inside him. And sure enough, Avalon, which gifts its user with regeneration so great that it basically becomes immortality, forcefully brought Shirou back from his pseudo-death. This is why Shirou's origin was "changed." He was essentially resurrected... but a significant chunk of the original had already died. The origin had left, and because of that, Shirou's body took on the next closest origin...'sword' which was a 'part' of Avalon. This is why he has such a strong obsession with the feeling and idea of 'saving others.' It was literally his first emotion as a new Shirou. Incidentally, Avalon also why Shirou is capable of tracing Excalibur/Caliburn when he otherwise can't understand the construction of swords not made by human means. The blueprint for the sword of king is basically written into his DNA.

In all 3 routes, i position the notion that Shirou is a very nuanced character who's journey is finding his reason to live and fight, regardless of whether or not he follows an ideal or discards all ideals.

In the end it doesnt mean anything since Summoned Emiya is only a copy of the real Emiya who resides in the Throne of Heroes. Only Saber was the actual body of the hero.

I never talked about Archer Emiya in my comment...i was talking about the 3(or more if you count alternate endings and dead ends) possible Shirou's in FSN that we follow. The Shirou that exists on the throne of heroes, displayed as Archer Emiya by the counterforce in FSN is just one possibility of Shirou that exists after all in a chain of infinite continuity. Even Archer Emiya himself is somewhat different from Mumei of Extra, who is also a Shirou who became a heroic spirit at some point similar to Archer Emiya. I don't know why otakudaikun added in FSN UBW!shirou's life into this either, if he was only following Archer Emiya!Shirou's life. What i find most interesting about Archer Emiya is that even in his original timeline there was an Archer Emiya, a Gil and an Arturia ect just like FSN, so his timeline was just a FSN Shirou that made different choices from FSN Shirou.

You are kinda all over the place but I will zero in on the EMIYA from the throne of heroes because it gave me a thought, timeline and alternate realities dont mean anything and it is possible to be summoned to any timeline. I have much evidence to offer the totality of my idea on this but the Throne of Heroes is a removed area not in contact with time so different events happening in certain timelines wouldnt mean a thing to be summoned in a particular timeline. A servant may be summoned into a timeline where they didnt exist. The most stark example, in the HF good route Shirou died and never came back to become a counter guardian yet EMIYA came to participate in the War. EMIYA appeared in a time line where he never came to exist. Again, ToH is removed from time so being summoned in any timeline should not be a real problem. However, this is just speculation, I think there are heroes at the Throne that no one from our timeline should ever have heard of because they never existed in ours. Since they never existed, there is no catalyist to bring them to our timeline. However, EMIYAs summon shouldnt normally be possible, but that paradox with Tohsaka pendent created a paradox but is evidence that heroes can be summoned into timelines that they never existed in.

Lemuel Delvalle Yes, but that was how Okita Alter was made, frankly it makes no sense because they both became counter guardians but somehow Okita became an alter, it may have something to do with Okita being a child when it happened (it as in her family offering her to Gaia so that she could live), or that she didn't make the 'contract' or deal herself.

Darth Revan Being fair, aside from Projection, Structural Analysis and Reinforcement Shirou can't use much things. Alteration, Runecraft and maybe Hypnosis and control of Familiars after a lot of training, but aside from that? Shirou has absolutely zero talent. What matters about Shirou isn't how many things he does, but that he's much better than everyone else in the few things he has a little of talent with.

I was wondering which Story route you was going to use, but I agree with the *Unlimited Blade Works* Arc. People might argue with you to put *Heavens Feel* because Shirou is more level headed and somewhat grown up but this arc was focusing on Archer's/Emiya's and Shirou's story on who ideals is correct or wrong. Kiryu Emiya and yet despite his words towards Archer, whether he will deviate from that destiny or not remains ambiguous. I lean towards the fact that he will become Archer. At least in Heaven’s Feel, he has someone tangible worth fighting for.

Lester Ramos I would argue that it is impossible for Emiya to become Archer in UBW. In the battle with Archer, Emiya states that he understands what Archer told him, and that he is right. However, Emiya also tells Archer that he is wrong in that even though his dream may be a false one, the ideal isn’t, and that he will strive to be a hero of justice, but he won’t make it his life long goal. Therein lies the difference between Archer and Emiya. Archer’s dream was to be a hero of justice, while Emiya strives for an unobtainable goal of being a hero of justice (knowing that he will never truly be one). Not to mention, Archer’s message to Rin at the end of Episode 24 implies that she will partially help him deviate from his original destiny, along with the fact that Emiya states that he has no more regrets, unlike Archer.

@@howardbaxter2514 Yeah I feel like Rin will be the one to make sure Shirou doesn't turn out like Archer Emiya. While Archer did keep Rin's pendant for all those years, it was never said that he and Rin were a couple in Archer's past. Just that he went to study with her in London. Maybe them being a couple is one major difference that will significantly change Shirou's destiny and make sure he doesn't become Archer later. Great video! Also side note: In the UBW anime series, Issei's reaction when he finds out Shirou and Rin are a couple is hilarious!

I don't know if OtakuDaikun would be fanboyed so hard if he found out about Miyuverse Shirou. A baddass Shirou w/o Avalon, a complete retconed past, used his life and story as a catalyst instead of Rin's pendant to SUMMON ARCHER DIRECTLY INSIDE HIM through a card. The funniest part was that he didn't even carry Rin's pendant until MUCH later on. Miyuverse Shirou's life was rough dude.

I will let you experience the true Miyuverse story because it was among the most heartbreaking story for any Emiya to experience. However, that Shirou was so relatable that Good became Evil while Evil became Good. That's all I can say. Miyuverse Shirou, to me, was a technical wonder. His origin is not about Sword but a Faker. Because his story is all about "Fake".

+Thinh Vo I think the most heartbreaking scene was when Shirou confessed to Julian that he was nothing but an imitation of others and begging Julian to have Miyu back. Because this is where he reached the limit of his despair hence adding more credibility to summon Archer Emiya to his body. What he did was to have back something that was "real" to him. Miyu is that thing. At that moment, Shirou completely chose a different path from any other shirou. A lonely path to his own demise just for something real. It amplified the sad monologue during his fight against ASS (yeah, pun INTENDED) Shinji. I knew HF Shirou was in despair but despite his breaking down, he still had Rin next to him and despite the FUCK FACE that was Sakura (really? Went berserk and shit to kill innocents due to petty jealousy and betrayed Shirou and Rin for LOL? Almost kill Rin in the process and then made Illya sacrificed herself?), she was still there and Rider as well. Heck, he didn't even have any miracle or hopes. Just offering his body and soul to himself for the power to protect the last "Real" thing of his life while losing everything in the process? That was way tragic that a bunch of hours that could have been great in HF if it wasn't for Sakura alter BS. But hey, on the bright sight, Miyuverse Shirou ultimately succeeded his wish (though temporary, LOL).

- Archer Class (Shirou. He was a natural at archery.) - Fights with swords (Saber. She taught him sword fighting through full contact sparring. Thus developing a self-taught style.) - Wears red (Rin's favourite color. Still carries her father's pendant.) - Rho Aias. A flower shaped shield. (Sakura. Specifically the keychain on her duplicate keys to Shirou's house.) - English poem. (Fuji-nee. She was Shirou's english teacher.) Archer, ya damn softie, you unconsiously still value your memories!!

Archer from Heaven's feel was one of my favorite moments of him. When he sacrificed himself to save rin, and then gave his arm up to shirou who lost his. Then that created one of the best moments, if not THE best, in the entire Visual Novel. Nine Lives Blade Works.

i dont want to be the one to nitpick but there was a flaw such as he didnt find out that he had a talent in projection magic during the 5th grail war, kiritsugu taught him projection magic first but since he was told projection magic can only mimic the form of objects not the substance and he was also told by kiritsugu that it was useless so he then kiritsugu taught him strengthening magic after he had already mastered projection

small correction: Shirou's origin wasn't "Sword" at first, it just got changed to that by having Avalon in him.

I appreciate you making this video but there are a few mistakes. You bring up that Akasha changed Shirou's origin before mentioning Kiritsugu saving him, implying this is the order. Shirou's origin was changed after Kiritsugu saved him because it's Avalon that changes his origin to a sword, not Akasha. Kirei did not make a wish prior to Kiritsugu ordering Saber to destroy the grail. When Kiritsugu ordered Saber to destroy the grail, the Greater Grail is left and that is what caused the mud to spill out. Coming in contact with the mud of the grail it is then that Kirei makes his wish which causes Shinto to burn. The last thing can be confusing due to Shirou saying that his training was not complete. While Kiritsugu did choose to limit Shirou's training, the details are not known. However because Shirou's origin was changed to a sword by Avalon he is unable to use any of the five elements. So it's not so much that Kiritsugu didn't choose to stop training Shirou that made him an incomplete Magus, it's that he was unable to use most magecraft due to his Origin. Kiritsugu might have realized that Shirou was unable to use the elements but we won't ever know if he did or not. Otherwise, great video.

Great work, though to my understanding Shirou didn't born with Sword as his origin, but he lost his former origin, memories, and identity when we was truck by the black mud, and had to create a new personality from then on. He acquired the Sword Origin thanks to having Avalon inside of him. Another nitpick would be that it wasn't Kirei who wished for humanity's destruction, but the spirit of the Angra Mainyu that was summoned and killed on the third war, since that war didn't had a winner and no wish was made, Angra took advantage and "corrupted" the grail. His wish would manifest him as a BEAST, and would proceed to destroy humanity. The black mud is just the first part of his manifestation, but that spilled due to Kiritsugu's attacking the grail and spilling its content.

Usually all of your lore videos are pretty accurate, this one has a few things that are untrue, Shirou wasn't born with "Sword" as his nature, Avalon was responsible for that. And Kirei "wish" wasn't what release the black curse, the mud was always there (well after angra manyu was absorbed), it was because Saber destroyed the vessel that it open the gates for the mud to flow out freely.

Nope. Shirou's true talent is not in projection. It's in the even more simple and basic magic Structural Analysis. His ability to completely record the true history and legends of any bladed weapon and even shields and armor is what makes him as powerful as he is. After Analyzing so many Noble Phantasms, he even gains the insight to improve them beyond their original power, resulting in Gilgamesh's defeat in Stay Night or "Fate" route and in UBW. This analysis ability and the resulting reality marble are due to his soul being 'damaged' by Angra Mainyu's mud and the cursed flames. His identity is destroyed an the origin and element changes to match the sheath that saved his life. It also makes him an open and honest person as a side effect, as well as quite a tool, but most importantly it allows him to record perfect blueprints onto his soul with an ease that almost any other person would never be able to achieve. Nasuverse souls have infinite ability to store information, and are thus OP as fuck unlike how actual brains work. So Structural Analysis is the key ability of Shirou Emiya, and it is mostly due to his pure and honest nature that he can take this simple skill to its theoretical limit. Assumptions and preconceptions are incredibly important both in most actual occult practices and in magecraft. So much so that if you study the lore you realize many magi use self hypnosis in their casting to overcome these things temporarily in order to force a spell to work that otherwise they wouldn't be able to do because it defies logic. This is one of the many reasons some Magi go insane. It's also partly why the magus society disdains technology, because its reliance on pure natural knowledge to accomplish 'miracles' is in direct opposition to their path, they also see it as working alongside Gaia's rules even if Gaia unconditionally hates humans anyway. Anyway, point is, Projection/Tracing is the utility skill and the main skill is Analysis.
