I would say that Kirei is the deepest person in Fate, he looks for the meaning of existence, of evil .. He is not like Shinji who is simply a bastard and does not know or question principles greater than him. Personally, apart from the fact that this is an anime with "unreal" things, I can't help but identify a bit with Kirei even though I also despise him for the actions he takes.

Even amidst the inconceivable pain of his destroyed body, Zouken Matou's destroyed oesophagus lets out a decrepit cackle of realisation. "Hahaha, I see, so you do intend to kill me. Very well, do as you wish. but what will change, do you truly think your wish will come true!?" Kirei pays no mind to the acrid words, continuing the rite with a practised ease, "Do not pretend. Retribution for forgiveness, betrayal for trust, despair for hope, darkness for light, dark death for the living." He walks, dragging what was left of the still living Magus against the wall and leaving a tail of blood as he walks, yet still, Zouken Matou laughs. "Hahahahaha! Such a hopeless retch! Do you still seek mundane happiness!? Do you not understand that such a thing does not exist for you!?" The blood and flesh paints a picture on the wall, all that remains of the Matou patriarch is his head, his body has been ground away by stone. Not even half of his head remained clutched in Kirei's iron claw but even with half of his brain sticking to the wall the old magus gives his last laugh. "Relief is in my hands. I shall anoint your sins with oil and leave a mark. Eternal life is given through death. Ask for forgiveness here and I, the incarnation, shall sware..." "You will never find what you seek. Kirei, you are a defect of humanity, cursed to stand and watch yet never to fit in to this world..." Zouken spits before his remaining black eye gazes upon the aura of white light begging to emerge from Kirei's form. "...Kyrie Eleison" The light explodes outwards in a soundless tide, engulfing Zouken and the rest of the clearing with a whoosh. When the light clears there is nothing left of the 500 year old Magus, and Kirei Kotomine walked away.

@@PharaohofCulture yes and no. Kyrie Eleison means “Lord bless”. And it is pronounced exactly the way it is written. Kirei is a name inspired by Kyrie (Lord), and is as well pronounced as it is written. Which is different than Kyrie because at Kirei you end with “ei”, whereas at Kyrie you end with “ie”. I know that this is what you may have meant, but as a Greek religious person myself, we say “Kyrie eleison” in our daily lives. Therefore for me, Kyrie and Kirei are worlds apart acoustically. Because the former means something to me, but the latter is just an inspired fictional name.

@@ren7686 To be fair, things like MMA, boxing, or whatever have certain rules and equipment (EX: no going for the eyes or wearing mouth guards) to make sure that no one gets seriously injured, so people wouldn't be hypocritical as they're watching with the expectations that it'll be a safe, clean fight. Additionally, with the unfortunate cases where someone does get seriously injured (like the Chris Weidman fight), the fight is stopped and the injured fighter is treated as soon as possible, and you usually see people express empathy for the injured fighter. On a side note, you also have to consider that some people wouldn't be hypocritical at all if they never expressed any hatred for violence and actively enjoy it.
