My wife and I have had ours since early July also. And while we love them we did do some modifications also. More comfortable seats, added little pieces of tape to the top and bottom of the battery to keep it from rattling inside the frame which really quieted the bike down on bumps. Added mirrors, changed the panniers attachment straps to velcro for faster on and off, and tweaked some of the controller settings so the pedal assist doesn't kick in quite so hard which freaked out my wife. Our wish-list for the bike also includes suspension. And my wife would like a lower pedal-assist setting as even pedal-assist level one is a little too fast for her.
@xDoomsdayx5 жыл бұрын
You should do a video and show your modifications. You are the only person I have seen that actually got their bikes in July.

My wife agrees on the pedal-assist being too fast on level one. Its like 15 mph. There must be a way to turn it down
@brianwalter6875 жыл бұрын
I did a lot of research and could not find a way to reset PAS 1 to less speed, other then setting the max speed for the bike lower to a speed she liked. But that limited the throttle speed also. Our fix was to turn off pedal assist in the P settings (had to hunt for all those online) and leave the throttle as the only way to use the motor. This way she can peddle on her own and control/increase her speed when she wants while she peddles. To catch up to me or going up hills etc. I agree that maybe a .5 peddle assist or something would be better. But I don't mind our fix. I set my bike to the same setting and we both get a little real peddling in and both use the throttle when needed.
@bobandjennsadventures94005 жыл бұрын
Where did you find the list of PAS? I could only find the couple that they give you.
@bFlattheOriginal5 жыл бұрын
@@brianwalter687 That's exactly what I do. I didn't even install the pedal assist until recently (I got mine as an add-on kit) and I ended up going into the display and turning it off. I much prefer pedaling and using whatever amount of throttle I need at the time. I too found PAS 1 to be too fast.

I've had my Lectric XP for a couple months now. I had some initial electric problems but the company was very supportive and I never really knew if the problems were the bike's fault or mine. But they stood by their bike and fixed everything asap. Like many, suspension is a minor problem, but saddle suspension kits are dirt cheap, and if you mainly riding on paved or smooth surfaces, it's not that bad at all. Their claim that the tires are puncture resistant is a bit of a stretch, but a simple tire liner solves that problem. And just so you know, when they bike arrives it probably won't do the 28 mph they claim, BUT, simply go into your settings and change PO8 setting from 32 to 45, and you'll get the 28 mph. Sounds more difficult than it is. I added (zip-tied) a plastic dairy carton on top of the FREE saddlebags so I can haul an impressive load. There is a Lectric XP group on Facebook I encourage all to join for obvious reasons. I love my XP. I named it Easy Rider!
@muserwood5 жыл бұрын
As far as a "Latch"for holding bike together when it's folded in half, I keep a couple of quality bungee chords in the dairy carton that work great, and are there if I need to bungee a load in the carton.
@DC-jb7oz3 жыл бұрын
Lets see. You had to do this and that and the tires aren't what they claim, then it had to be programmed from 32 to 45. In other words they are NOT as advertised. Hopefully they work out the bugs and don't increase the price to much or they just lost the advantage they claimed to have. All companies get greedy and make as much profit as possible at others expense.
@d.rodrickeamon61333 жыл бұрын
@@DC-jb7oz XP bikes are shipped as Class 2 bikes (20 mph and throttle control because not all states and municipalities allow class 3 (28mph w/peddling). They ship with instructions in the user manual on how to change the setting for states that do allow that. There's nothing suspicious or greedy about it. Also, puncture resistant doesn't mean "puncture proof." I've gotten flats with Kevlar-belted tires.

I added a Satori Animaris suspension seat post and a Cloud 9 wide seat - It increases the minimum seat height but is ok for me (29" inside leg). The original seat post is 31.8mm diameter so I needed a stem sleeve for the 27.5mm Satori post. The clearance between the 27.5 and 31.8 tubes allowed me to make an anti-theft gadget for the seat - the seat can be pulled up but can not be removed. Other things included realigning the crooked carrier, tighten pedals, adjust rear brake at the cable end. I also made a fix to move the kickstand forward so it doesn't stick out so much when it is folded (it would hit the wheel nut before). I am now working on a bracket to hold a long U-lock (OnGuard). Seeing as I have not ridden a bike for 50 years it's going to be quite the experience ! (which is what the XP stands for).

I didn't like the riding position or the range of the bike but the beauty is there is a bike for everyone so while it doesn't work for me it will certainly work for someone else! In regards to the lack of suspension experiment with tire pressure, my fat tire bike I can take the tires down to 8 psi and it really absorbs the rough terrain, not sure with your smaller diameter wheels but I am guessing you can certainly lower the pressure a fair amount and find a softer ride.

These are fine for the price but I have had a number of E-bikes from $4K Pedigo to Radrover. The Radrover folding bike is the bike I turn to most. It has your 3rd complaint which is front shocks and for your seat comfort I suggest the SR Suntour SP12 NCX Seatpost spring is like having a rear shock and will save your bum. It should work on your bike and others. Radrover's are right there in Seattle (Ballard) and carries the seat spring. Give them a visit. No I am not affiliated.

A great ride for those bikes is on I-90, at Hyak. There's the Snoqualmie Tunnel you can ride through if you head west, and a bunch of smaller tunnels along the lake if you head east. It's an awesome day out on railroad grade, and the lake is right there if you choose to jump in. If you're heading to the Olympic Peninsula again this year, be sure to stop at the east end of Lake Crescent. They just redid the trail on the north side of the lake (also railroad grade) and there are lots of little trails down to the water that let you cool off and see the amazing views. If you're looking to get those tires on some sand, I'd recommend Kalaloch (where you stood under that gravity tree), or the busier Ocean City or Ocean Shores. Kalaloch is still the best though, IMHO. If you hit it just right during a low tide, Ruby Beach (right as HWY 101 kisses the Pacific heading south) is an amazing beach ride if you head south. I doubt you'd want to take your bikes through the creek to head north (which also has amazing views of ocean rock formations).

The company lent Lectric Bikes to a lot of RVers on KZbin and I've seen several reviews . They all love them of course. But something weird that I notice in every review is that the seat posts are always way down, so your legs never straighten out. Everyone rides these bikes with their knees up in the air, like the bike was way too small for them. If I did that on my bike I'd have big trouble with my knees. Can you raise the seat so that a 6 foot person straightens out his legs when pedaling? Otherwise, I love your stuff. Keep up the good work!

Hi, good follow up video. Still waiting on mine to arrive; my XP has been ready for delivery for a while - red tape with Canada Customs. Not Lectric's issue and out of their control. Worst case, I'll pick it up in Phoenix later this year. I was planning on using wide elastic straps w velcro to keep the ebike in the folded position. As for off-road or heavy duty dirt road riding, just reduce the air pressure in the tires and it'll be far more comfortable. Maybe in the next follow up, do a comparison between air pressure reduction vs comfort vs distance reduction. The folded ebike design is appealing to me b/c it's safe from the elements, inside my RV, and better security. I'd recommend to always put some sort of lock between the rear wheel and frame - that's the most expensive item. Cheers, Steve

Ok, I have mainly been interested in locking the bike up when going somewhere. When you locked up your bike with the U lock, I was a bit disappointed. Is it not possible to lock the rear wheel and frame with the U lock? It doesn't look like it from what I could see. That concerns me a little in that cable locks are really only effective against those that are only thinking about stealing your bike but don't have any tools. A real thief would have those cables cut in 10 seconds. You should also at least get some small chains or cables for your seat and lock it to the frame. it appears to have a quick release on it, people will steal that seat just because it's so easy to get off with no tools required. Just FYI, enjoyed the video. Would love to see more adventures on the bikes.

@Darren Cole, u-locks are quick and simple to open without a key … if you know how; and, a real thief would know the technique. I use 3 different styles of locks on my expensive bikes, from a ulock to a thick cable lock to a thick (but heavy) hardened steel chain link w matching lock. Only do this when I would not be near the bike and it's outside
@xDoomsdayx5 жыл бұрын
@@ScubaSteveCanada it also depends on the type of U lock you get, not all U locks can be opened by hitting it. I know there is no single lock that will protect your bike, its why it has always been recommended to use 3 ways of locking your bike. Re: the no clasp when folded issue - I recently saw a KZbin video where the guy put his folded XP into a Commander 64 Gallon rolling tote (Sold at Lowes) and still had room for a few other accessories in there. Rolled it out to his truck and slid the thing into the back. He said it would also fit in the 40 gallon, but tight fit.Seems like a good way to keep from scratching the paint or damaging the inside of an SUV for example. I may try this.

What is your system for charging these bikes while you are off the grid and boondocking? I see you all have a sweet solar setup, are you using an inverter, inverter generator, or some 12v DC connection to charge them?

The entire bike is completely waterproof so you are safe to ride in the rain with the motor 👍 I would recommend covering the LCD screen with something like a small ziploc and rubber band though just to be sure.

Try carrying a frame pump on you so you can adjust your tire pressure. Fat tires can be dropped very low which makes them ride rough terrain much smoother, as well as increasing grip on snow, mud and sand. Once I receive mine, I will look into installing a suspension fork if possible. The folding handlebar assembly might not accommodate a traditional fork but I have yet to determine this. Thanks for the review and keep up the good content!
@bFlattheOriginal5 жыл бұрын
Lots of other fat tire folding bikes come with front suspension forks, so they're out there. I have seen some on Aliexpress when I was searching for something else. Haven't "Ducked" it for any US suppliers. (I use DuckDuckGo as my search engine, they don't track you like Google does). Frankly, if a suspension fork is that high up on your list, I would have bought one that had it. Green Bike USA has a GB1 fat tire bike for $1249 with front suspension and a few other bells & whistles and it comes in 6 different colors.

LG batteries are generally good for @ 800 cycles before they drop to @ 70% of their capacity. A cycle is full charge to full discharge. Try not to run the battery completely down. The pack's BMS _should_ cut off with @ 5% charge remaining, but it's best not to run them down much below 20% charge. If you can keep them between 80%-20%, you'll get longer life out of them. Also, if you want to have a full charge when you start off on a ride, it's better to wait til the day you're riding to charge the last 20% or so to get to a full charge. It's not good to charge a battery to 100% and leave it sitting around for several days. If you're not going to ride for a few months, best to leave @ a 50% charge on the battery, and then give it a half hour charge every month or so. So, how long will your battery last? How many cycles per week will you put on it? If you only do 1-2 charge cycles/week, your battery will last longer than if you put 5-10/week on it. If you leave your battery outside in the sun every day, it won't last as long as if you don't. Winter cold really saps the heck out of batteries too, so it's better to keep them warm before you set out to ride when it's cold outside. The XP comes with quality batteries, but there is no one answer for how long yours will last.

We don't commute to work since our KZbin channel is our job. So the only place we have to ride to is the grocery store or other random errands. Everything is super close within a couple miles. So yep, 50 miles in a month. If you can commute to work on one of these then you'll really start to see the payoff.
@ryfo5 жыл бұрын
@@FateUnbound I didn't mean to be critical of your mileage - any use of non-petroleum transportation saves money @ the IRS allowance of ~$0.50/mile - just surprised it's not higher! A few 10+ mile joyrides mixed with grocery commutes would be more than 50 miles for me alone. Maybe things are farther away here? Or I like to grocery shop too often? Haha! I plan to ride my Lectric XP at least 100 miles a month for commutes to various adult rec sports leagues, general fun, and grocery shopping. I don't have a commute for work either.
@FateUnbound5 жыл бұрын
@@ryfo Don't worry I didn't take it critically. We are home bodies so if we don't have a reason to leave then we stay home hahaha. That results in few trips overall, but if we can take the bikes instead of an ICE vehicle then heck yeah money saved! Enjoy 😁👍

(no peddling) My batteries are only 20 Ah so it's range isn't that good about 20 miles round trip. I ride on a bike trail that runs parallel to the min road that takes me down to the lake and my fishing spot. People in cars often meet me at the end and ask me how I was going faster on a bike than they could go in their car! LOL
@xDoomsdayx5 жыл бұрын
Be careful with that. depending on the state, they could take that bike from you. Its like riding a 150cc scooter and saying its a 50cc scooter. Most states have a 750 watt max for the motor, some much lower than that. I think its funny, I saw a dutch article today talking about super-fast e-bikes then mentioning the 750 watt motor and top speed of 28mph and they are calling them super fast bikes lol.
@DivergentDroid5 жыл бұрын
@@xDoomsdayx In my state, they can only give me a ticket if I'm riding faster than 20 mph on a public street that's also used by cars. but a sidewalk is good. I didn't think you could actually be In the flow of traffic in any state. )
@xDoomsdayx5 жыл бұрын
@@DivergentDroid Oh yeah, In most states, bikes and cars share the road, cars don't like it but they share anyway. You only need to move over and let traffic pass if its safe for you to move over to the side. For instance, if you are on a street that is lined with cars, you don't have to get out of the middle of the road because of the door zone danger but at first chance, you are supposed to let faster traffic by. Still, Most drivers don't like bikes on the road so it's not advisable to ride in the middle of the lane, Bunch of crazies out there, never know when that steel cage on wheels is going to try and run you over.

You can swap to a suspension seat post which is a cheap fix. Ask around on somewhere like bikeforums.net and see if anyone knows of a front fork with suspension that would fit the fat tire and smaller tire size. It might be a harder thing to find but if there is one out there any bike shop can swap it for you.

You can get a seat post that has built in suspension. One thing I noticed is that the bikes appear to be powered without pedaling. If that is the case, I don't think they are legal on motorized vehicle restricted trails. They are limited to pedal assist only. I don't know how strictly that is enforced but caveat emptor.
@rnordquest5 жыл бұрын
Just keep pedaling and I'll bet you're ok. I'd also not power it near anyone when possible just to reduce the odds of having a problem. I bet the issue is people just going too fast on them.

Thanks for the follow up. Lower air pressure a few pounds at a time to find the cushion you need - lots of air volume remains. Trade offs, warmer tires and lowers range by some percentage. Also, could try a shock-absorbing seat post ~ $40. Probably will need shims for fitment.

No. I took a piece of cardboard, cut it to make a slide on cover for the display, and painted it black.
