I love how this song seems to be a response to the flaming lips "do you realize". It brings into focus the societal and personal failures that "realize" glosses over, but nonetheless, and weirdly, remains just as much, if not more, optimistic.

This man is a fucking genius. Every line he writes is so well thought out and fascinating. He truly is one of the greatest musicians of our generation.

“Maybe love is just an economy based on resource scarcity” might be the most nihilistic thing I’ve ever heard and I relate a little too much to be comfortable with that

josh is so clever with this one, he had me saying the exact same thing after listening to this song i would say this and the ideal husband are the best songs on the album

It’s crazy how the song builds up with all these dreadful things just about anybody can relate to and then ends with “but what’s that got to do wit you and me?” It’s like he’s saying all the things he just mentioned don’t matter because him and his lover have each other.
@FancyTophatDude4 жыл бұрын
I think he makes it clear they still matter, since he points out the problems in the world and then cluelessly asks what that's gotta do with his personal sadness. But i think you're still right. The problems of the world do matter, but we can still find love and self-worth even in the shittiest times.
