Guilty or not, I have my doubts about them getting a fair trail. Were they beaten up in order to force them to confess or were they beaten up by cops who may had lost loved ones in the massacre? Beating someone up to make them confess is a really bad strategy. People will confess to a whole slew of crimes if that will make the torture stop.
