I had a father who beat my mom & me & told me I was stupid, worthless, and would never amount to anything. I've ALWAYS wondered what it would be like to have a dad who loves his girl wants the best for her, and believes in her. This family illustrates that and it's PURE HEAVEN!!!

sad to say but over 80% of black children are born to single mothers. A FAMILY MEANS EVERYTHING !!! I am White, was deserted by my father at 7 years old. I am now 73 and it has bothered me my whole life. But due to a fantastic mother I had a wonderful successful life. But sad to say my son's father deserted me and my son was born to a single mother. but due to a loving grandmother and a mom who lived with me 'we' raised a sucessful son, grandson. I am positive it has bothered my son his entire life also. I was too troubled to bring it up with my mom. THANK GOD FOR STRONG WOMEN THAT HELP THEIR DAUGHTERS GET THRU IT.

I sang “I Loved Her First” to my daughter a few years ago at her wedding. My heart was so full. My son-in-law bristled a little at the message of the song. A few years later, his daughter was born and he said to me, “Dad, I get it now.” Warmed my heart. Nothing like a dad’s love for his daughters.

On my 40th birthday my husband called my dad and told him I had now belonged to him longer than my dad. My dad replied, "She will ALWAYS be mine!" Even as he was dying of Alzheimers, and he couldn't remember my name, his face lit up every time I saw him. Enjoy your Daddys as long as you can. He's gone now and I feel like I lost the only person on this earth who loved me, no matter what, unconditionally.

You don't belong to your husband or father like a possession. Marriage supposed to be a partnership. I hope he treats you well. The bond of parent and child isn't supposed to be that a parent treats a girl child like property or a possession. I hope that wasn't the case. The phrasing of the comment set of an alert in my mind...sometimes you can only cry out for help from the shadows.

@@donnam5060 Thanks for your concern. My hubby and I have been together for 33 years and he's my best friend. We love to spend most of our time together. He's helped me through Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis, infertility, depression and anxiety. I've helped him through problems with his abusive mother, moved 6 times to support his career, and went through family deaths together. He treats me very well, makes me laugh every day, and I love him more now than ever. I was a Daddy's girl and he meant it to tease my Dad. My dad didn't think it was funny. Lol. I can understand in a way. My daughter's father passed one week before his 29th birthday from testicular cancer when she was 4. She doesn't really remember him. Just from pictures. But I tell you what, she still cries till this day about how she needs her daddy. It makes me so damn sad when a daughter has to grow up without her daddy. I'm praying for yours and every other's strength and healing. God bless you.

@@patricialora5692 I guess, I just never understsnd when you people say or write stuff like that. So I ask people to explain what they mean, because it isn't realistic ir logical that dad can set standards without the children's mother. That's strange and weird to me. See, in my home, as we grew up, we are blessed to have a mother and father who both taught us, boys and girls. My father snd mother both made rules. I don't understand why you people say this stuff. In our house, father and mother set our rules and standards. Mom taught my sisters about female stuff and how boys act and them mom told my sisters how to act and what not to allow from boys. Dad told us boys just a few words. But as far as dadd setting standards for a daughter, I think this is a fallacy and man made belief. But it's not true and not possible. Dads can only be decent to their wives. Then both sons and daughters watch parents' behavior. But no, in regular homes, my understanding is dad csn be controlling the rules by himself. My dad is not mean, harsh, or abusive.
