Truth. Love Bill but he needs to reflect on the loss of his comrades on the show, Phil, Jake just to name a few to know what’s really important. It’s not Zack’s fault. Bill needs to know he’s a Dad #1 Captain 2nd. Zack needs to hear one good true honest “I Love You” and a hug, to start.

Bill! As a father who hasn't seen his 3 boys, in 7 years because of a vindictive ex. I'd just be happy to have him around. Give him a hug. That's all he really wants and accept his wishes, even they're not yours. From one father to another. ❤

The hurt and silent realization in both their eyes at how unsalvagable their situation and father / son relationship seems. Hadn’t seen this clip of the show until just now. That’s tough to watch, seeing them at such odds with each other. Sadly, it seems like the only resolution is compromise, but that’s not a likely scenario with the industry they’re in. A lot of resentment on both sides, and the “you’re your mother’s son” was said with such disdain, that the tension & lack of respect was palpable. The way these scenes are edited, we are only getting part of the story behind their broken relationship. But whatever it is, it’s not good. Out of all the captains & crews that’ve been spotlighted in the show, the environment on their boat seems to be one of the more problematic ones. No love on that boat, at all.

Even tho Wild Bill is very competent in what he is doing he is also an extremely difficult character to deal with. I understand that in that field you do have to have a thick skin, but thats also not just anyone - this is your own son. I agree people have become way too soft, but he is taking the "tough love" to the extreme. I feel bad for Zach.

It’s hinted he was probably extremely absent and probably tried to be tough on him when he did come home which does not bold well for a child who only sees his dad one or twice a year and then when that dad does come home he’s just cruel and mean. That probably was most of Zach’s childhood

This is all about perception and communication. Bill wants Zack to take the lead, but Zack wants Bill to tell him to. This is a common issue I had with my stepfather, who always expected tasks or chores to be done without having to tell me, versus my dad informing me up front and laying out a plan. Both are reasonable approaches, but it needs to be communicated up front about the duties and responsibilities.

Bill, you are old school. No bullshit no softcock. Despite best intentions you want to leave your legacy with your son. Fair enough but it seems like you are pressuring Zack to step up to your expectations and he is in a different generational thinking which doesn't allow for old school. Zack, you need to decide for yourself if working with Bill is what you really want. You both need to separate family from work to preserve and protect family. Family is priority. Much aroha to you both.

Damn bill that's a tuff spot but Zack needs to know also work is work when your there on the boat that business not personal and he was trying. They both could have handled it differently. But Bill don't get butt hurt about what he said cause that's how he feels. But definitely not the spot or place to do that on camera. They need to set down off camera and try. Cause at the end of the day. That's still his dad and he still is his son. I hope and pray yall can work it out. Bill wants nothing more then to teach him and help him. And Zack the past is the past you both can only change the future. Luck guys and besafe.

Good answer Zach…your Dad is a bit of a dick and he’ll forever say your not ready. Your better off running another boat. Then he’ll realize the abilities you have. You’ll never have the 40yrs of experience he has by just sitting beside him and listening to him complain for another 20trs that your not ready. He’ll forever hold it over your head until in a few years he gets sick and can’t run the boat anymore and is going to lose everything and then asks you to run things for him. That’s how it goes. I have a 25yr old son and I’d never treat him the way your dad treats you. I do autobody work and trained him. I congratulate him every day he works with me. Look how Sig treats his family like Jake and Edgar. Sig complements his family members, not put them down every other day

I honestly see both sides. On one hand Zack just isn’t as responsible as he should be to advance. Anytime he’s gotten in the wheel house is entirely because he’s bills son. On the other hand I see that Zack is a new generation fisherman. Not at all like the older guys and that’s just not gonna happen. Anyone that was fishing in the 80s can work circles around anyone from today.
