I was addicted to opiates from 16 to about 22. Im now 8+ years clean. I can tell you that the withdrawal is worse than i could ever explain. I feel for any addict. Basically what happens is the person you know, is a shell. Because their body is essentially hijacked. There’s no one home anymore. Unfortunately Nick paid the ultimate consequence. I feel for him. Rest in peace buddy.

Same! Except I'd have never put myself in that position! Because I'd never have passed the physical in the first place. Let alone the pre-hire UA and blood test! I hate seeing that the poor guy ultimately lost to the dope. May he rest in peace. Its so easy for people to judge addicts, even I find myself guilty of it sometimes! And I'm in Recovery myself! I just passed my 6 months of going without getting high on opiates! And I've been in my M.A.T. Program for a year! I know that some people feel that's not the way to go.. But it was, and is, for me! Especially when a major, underlying base for my addiction was in needing to manage the severe chronic pain that I live in, due to the spinal conditions that I was born with. But the M.A.T. also helps a lot with the pain, as a sort of bonus effect! Ironically, doctors seem more keen than ever to prescribe me opiates, when Im in Recovery, and actually, finally don't want them.. At least most times. But to know that I can even take them in low doses, as prescribed, or less, now, is another amazing thing! Because that was definitely not the case before! Anyone who took the time to read this freakin dissertation that I ended up writing, please be careful with your body, your health and your life! And if you are in active addiction, please realize that you deserve better for, and from, yourself! And know if a fiend like me can do it, anyone can!!! ♥️🤍💙

The thing about WDs is they take too long. If you go total abstinence you're determined for the first 18hrs but as it goes on and on it wears you down until you're too tired to fight it, if you follow.

I was an opiate addict for over 10 years. Been clean since I was 26, celebrating 8 years sober this past August. I feel for everyone in this situation, and wish that people would educate themselves more on the subject. Addiction is POWERFUL thing. However, recovery is possible. Be strong, be vigilant, be humble, be willing and change can happen. RIP, my man.

@danlam9906 couldn't agree more. Addiction is a depressing, lonely existence. It isolates you from everything and everyone and preys on your vulnerabilities and insecurities. Recovering addicts helping other addicts recover is a beautiful and powerful thing. I just hope everyone out there going through it knows that recovery is possible, and there's always someone willing to listen and help! Proud to be a part of the 2%.

The saddest and most infuriating part of having someone you love be an addict is the lying and manipulation of your emotions. Bills reaction reminded me of my experiences. They come to you for help and you do everything you can only to find out it was just a way to get sympathy to continue their habits. That’s why it’s important to not immediately judge parents or family for choosing to no longer enable an addict. At a certain point you start to see the emotional games used to play on your sympathies.

I was addicted to hydromorphcotins, went on methadone program and got off of it (on my own) there is nothing worse then withdrawals from opiates. When people joke about withdrawing from something stupid, I take absolute offence to it because they never endured what I experienced. I know from experience of both using opioids and now being a substance use counselor, being strung out on Heroin is selfish and destructive. Bill could have lost his boat but when you're doing junk you just don't want to be sick so you continue the cycle or get help. Nick got help but his addiction took his life. Fentanyl is so destructive, my patient's who are using Fentanyl tell me they can't get high on Heroin anymore it doesn't work, so they continue to use Fentanyl. Its sad.

Rip Nick. I was addicted to hydrocodone after getting some major dental work done. Couldn't sleep, sweating, just felt horrible and nothing would make me feel better, except more pills.. Glad to be free from that. It was a struggle and took a full week of constant withdrawals and barely any sleep. I feel bad for anyone who inadvertently gets hooked on medications. It's a terrible terrible course of events.

I had never experienced narcotics prior to then, so I honestly had no idea what addiction even was until I stopped taking them. I'll never take them again, don't care if they lop off a limb

I remember doing "base" a few times, a peasants cocaine, even cheaper than normal speed or amphetamine. I was awake for 2 days and the comedown on that...wow...I've used to do MDMA and cocaine, mushrooms on a regular basis, whilst you get a comedown on most, it's never brutal. But that base comedown...just felt like this empty husk and I could smell the speed leaching out of every pore. Was like the worst depressive episode x100. So I can imagine heroin/opioid withdrawal is x1000 that.

Opioid withdrawal is painful and the lack of sleep is so mentally draining. You’re to tired to stay awake but to restless to sleep. I got clean of a 10 year heroin addiction in July 1999 and I got cravings for a good 5 years after getting clean.

Addiction is a serious disease. From personal experience I know how hard it is to quit. I’ve been sober for three years by now, but many don’t make it. They fall off the wagon and when they do they tend to go back to the same amount they were doing when they stopped, and then the OD. Like what happened to Nick, RIP 🙏🏻

There’s no way they didn’t, at least, have an inkling. It makes your brain crave drugs before water, food and shelter. Also affects dopamine and serotonin production. If it was a choice, ppl would stop. Being an addict is miserable. Who wants to lose everything? Family, your girl, your job, home, friends, car, etc. Addiction takes everything from you, most addicts are miserable and want to stop but can't. I hope you never have kids who deal with addiction. It's a nightmare. There's plenty of ppl that call it a choice until they experience it first hand in your personal life.

If I had to be on a boat In those conditions, then at least short term, opiates would defiantly be a tempting short cut to feeling warm and insulated against the stinging swell, wind, hail and anything else the sea has to offer. I think some Sherpas use opium for similar climactic reasons. Obviously this can quickly become an issue in the real world if done a lot, but short term.🙂

I was addicted for 10 years. It started innocently as I was put on Vicodin 10mg for shoulder pain. After that, it was all downhill. I ended up overdosing twice. It took my family's intervention to bring it to an end. I'm 6 years clean now, and I refuse the meds when my shoulder flairs up. I keep it iced and Tylenol is all I'll take. 2 pills. No more.

Hell yeah! It was one of the most difficult thing to tell my doctor "no I don't want any meds" when I slipped and fractured some ribs but it was a damn good feeling to refuse the pain meds

I used to work on fishing boat s to catch sardins and anchovies in Croatia we would all including capitan take brown coke and speed the older ones alkohol one guy drunk set him self on fire in the small kitchen crazy times

When I was taking my prescribed pain killers I never would get like that, EVER. I never even took the amount prescribed or I would have been. No one around me even knew I had to take them once my body started going into withdraw if I didn’t. But I never got zooted. Ever. I don’t understand these people who take so much they. Ant keep their eyes open.

I t looks like he had his cousin bring him some but he was dopesick on the trip so he told everyone it was pneumonia until he could get back and score some more.
