Man Jake knows better but then again no money intake, it's really hard to pay ur guys but then again if you get stranded at sea, it's that gear box plus a tow or how ever they get them big ships back lol. But he does have 2 engines tho but that's half the power. Idk I probably would have fixed the gear box problem.

I understand the need to fish, but at some point, (since I saw other videos of this boat with wear & tear and he said the same thing about fishing) you need to just fix the boat. Just get as much on the boat fixed as possible, all at once, so this doesn't keep happening, and the question won't keep coming up. You'll lose fewer seasons and have less stress like that. He's not going to lose an entire year. Just a couple of seasons needed to fix the boat. I know it's a lot of money lost and a lot of money to fix, but if it needs fixing that much, even the Cornelia Marie was out of commission for quite some time for repairs, and they're going strong. Get the boat fixed. The more it's broken down, the more it will break down, and he will be out of commission as long as the Cornelia Marie was, however he feels about it.
