My father has been missing since 8/2/2023. This song was one of his favorites and he always sang it to me on the guitar, I started learning it today to play it the day we meet again. I don't know if you'll see this message Dad, but I miss you and I hope I get the opportunity to play it for you. I love you

Amazing song. It has so many mixed feelings for me when I hear it. My mam passed away from cancer in 2009 and She was a massive Cat Stevens fan. She managed to meet him before she died and it meant so much to her. I feel sad as she's no longer with us, but a part of me is happy she got to meet her hero. Just hearing anything by Cat Stevens makes me instantly think of her.

For those who sing and play at the same time: It's not time to make a change Just relax, take it easy You're still young, that's your fault There's so much you have to know Find a girl, settle down If you want you can marry Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy I was once like you are now, and I know that it's not easy To be calm when you've found something going on But take your time, think a lot Why, think of everything you've got For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not How can I try to explain? 'Cause when I do he turns away again It's always been the same, same old story From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away I know I have to go It's not time to make a change Just sit down, take it slowly You're still young, that's your fault There's so much you have to go through Find a girl, settle down If you want you can marry Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy All the times that I cried, keeping all the things I knew inside It's hard, but it's harder to ignore it If they were right, I'd agree, but it's them they know not me Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away I know I have to go

This was the first strumming song that I every learned when I started guitar. I haven't played guitar much for a couple of months but I still remember how to play this song. Thank you GZ2H for this tutorial.
@josecunha6974 Жыл бұрын
I have only been playing guitar for a little under 3 years, with sparse time to dedicate to it at 59 years of age. I have gotten a good handle on strumming and open cords, and am struggling to get a handle on bar chords, scales and some modicum of theory. My instructor is top notch and does the best he can with the time I commit, but we have and open mic night once a month, which I love and is a real motivator. I always turn to your videos to learn a song to play and enjoy every month. This month I learned I was going to be a grand uncle for the first time, and decided to learn to play this beautiful song that subtly says so much about the complex understanding between father and son that we all go through. In only a few hours with your help, I can now play it beautifully. So grateful, you have a gift for teaching this instrument, keep doing what you do, and know you bring a lot of joy to others through your teaching.

Dave, thanks so much for producing this lesson. Love it and I'm noodling my way thru it...I'm an long time beginner player. IMHO you're the best master instructor out there. I love the interface of the videos. I bought the sheet music from MusicNotes...it's the best layout and clearest notation ever. Your Premium course sounds awesome and I'd love to take the course but at 75 years old I don't feel like I have it in me. Peace from Washington State.
