@@22lyricI don't know his exact reason for pointing it out, but it is actually important, because of the extraordinary increase in cardiac arrests that we are now seeing in the last 3 years. A cardiac arrest is a completely different event than a heart attack, although they can look the same, and they're treated differently differently. In short? Check for a pulse. If there's no pulse? the heart has stopped - and that is what's meant by this new term "sudden adult death syndrome." One day, I hope we'll be able to talk about why these tragedies are occurring.

@marilynwillett804 I think he's right, it is both a man and woman -bride and groom - thing. I've attended two of my own and several of my kids' weddings, but not once did I ask any basic safety questions and AFAIK neither did the groom. But I never thought of a defib, though I should've (and will next time) since my family is high risk for heart attack.

How does this hit different???? Not only did I lose my father, I was the one who found him dead on the back porch! And my father died after doing work around the house, something constructive. Not dancing around like a moron because his daughter wanted him to do this silly routine just to look cool. They both should have known better. Being his daughter, she should have known about his health and the possibility of issues with demanding him to do a dance like that, and HE should have known about what it might have done before he agreed with her to do it. NOBODY thinks anymore.

He wanted to be a full time grampy and a full time cook for all of us and learn new recipes. He passed because an infection came on really quick causing sepsis and instead of the multi billion dollar oil company he worked for send him to the hospital with their ambulance, they made him wait for the end of shift bus where he spent the hour ride home in the washroom and by the time he got to the hospital the damage was already done to his organs because he didn’t get IV antibiotics quick enough.

Yes, doing a normal, traditional dance would have been the best preventative measure, but nooooooooo! The daughter just HAD to have her father get up and dance around like a moron to make herself feel cool. Poor guy, I'm glad he survived but both of these people should have known better.

Everybody should know CPR. I’m not sure why that isn’t taught in health classes across the nation (or world, for that matter), but I see that as a failure by our leaders.

I completely agree. I was educated in Poland, and I learned CPR in both primary and secondary education. I have no idea whether this is still in the curriculum, but definitely, all children everywhere should be trained in first aid. It's such a no-brainer, isn't it?

I'm 61. I walked 4 miles this morning. I've walked ten times so far this summer. You have to train your heart, lungs, your body. You have to stress test your body. I think I have been fortunate with my health so far. No heart problems. No diabetes. That said, I drive a school bus and I sit a lot. That is one reason I make myself walk in the summer. I gain weight. I get stressed and I have to sit five days a week. After driving nine hours a day I just don't have the mental concentration to go out walking for an hour. And I'll be sleepy and hungry. All I want to do is eat and zone out after work. Anyway, you have to make time for training.

Losing your life over a dance is something you shouldn't do.

@@markmalasics3413just doing a dance shouldn’t make a healthy person go into cardiac arrest. It is normal to dance at a wedding. Stop trying to blame the daughter for this. If he took better care if his health he wouldn’t be going into cardiac arrest from a 3 minute dance. A dance he agreed to by the way.
