Can I add that most frozen prawns in Oz are Asian in origin and are labeled NOT to be used as fish bait as they may be from polluted rivers and need cooking to make them safe. So cooking is a very good idea, killing unwanted FOREIGN pathogens. 🦘

Joey, made up a similar recipe years ago, he add fish, prawns, beef heart, spirulina, carrots and peas in a blend and packed them in freezer bags. I always omitted the beef heat, didn’t think it was necessary and I didn’t a too fatty component floating in the tank. But then I switched to Australian native fish, they are a bit more choosy with their food intake and now I just use live food, mosquitoes and their larvae, detritus worms, black worms, copepods and basically any insect that fits in their mouths. But for the most part they live off the food web in the tank. Feeding is supplemental only about once a month, although the rainbows which are surface feeder need a bit more feeding. The fish need to hunt for their supper and in turn, move the leaf litter around which helps speed up decomposition. My tank is a sea of infusoria and algae which I don’t clean. There are enough beneficial pathogens in the tank to keep them active and healthy. Only had Ich once but an increase in tank temperature killed them off quickly. In one of the FF videos, when asked about empire gudgeons he was incorrect in saying these a bigger fish and can become territorial. They can grow to 100mm but are often smaller, they reside in the bottom layer of the tank and joust with their own kind and never show any aggression toward other fish. Just don’t place shrimp in the tank as they wait for the shrimp to molt and then they are easy pickings.

@@FatherFish I suppose shrimp is for fish what meat is for cats or dogs for instance: they contain every nutrients they need, protein, fat, fibre, minerals, even vitamins?
@Tomjarr121 күн бұрын
Not all whales eat shrimp. Baleen whales eat plankton and krill exclusively, not shrimp. The two aren't the same, but are closely related. They may also eat smaller fish, too. Toothed whales do not eat shrimp. They feed on fish, octopus, squid, seals, things like that. Some whales are bottom feeders.
@Tomjarr121 күн бұрын
Plus, the shrimp shell has a high ash content, and high amounts of ash is bad for fish.
@Haseeb2-q8d24 күн бұрын
So you’re suggesting spending more money on fish food than on human food.
@eveningclicks776724 күн бұрын
I think what he is suggesting may actually be cheaper or you break even. I guess it just depends if you wouldn't mind having the shrimp in your freezer and if you already have a blender. This is probably better for people who have a lot of fish or large fish. With it being in the freezer, it would last longer than an open can of flakes, if you store the frozen shrimp in small containers. A concern I have is that many fish foods have a couple sources of protein, algae, and some foods are bug based and I just kinda wonder what you could be missing out on if you fed solely frozen shrimp. I know there are little creatures and such in ff tanks, but still.
