We went back to Abigail's psychiatrist to talk about autism, anxiety, OCD, and CBD Oil. Do we need to change her meds, keep it the same, do something different? We discuss this decision and what her doctor said about it. More ABA therapy, more shenanigans.

I HIGHLY recommended genomind genetic testing for medication. I have high functioning autism and was taking meds since I was like 10 (I’m 23 now turning 24 soon). I had tried so many meds and had bad side effects and couldn’t find the right combination of drugs until I was 19 and changed psychiatrists. My new doctor gave me the genetic test and it made all the difference. I used to have huge meltdowns and massive anxiety that I couldn’t go to mainstream school, but once I found the right meds it really made the difference and I don’t have meltdowns anymore and I don’t self injure when frustrated anymore. Also I have made friends which was pretty much impossible for me before.

Lauren M - I have never heard of that. What a brilliant idea! I am going to look into it for my son. Lately he's on no meds, so tired of trying different meds and experiments with worse side affects than the anxiety. Makes so much more sense to test first and get it right the first time.

I’m on Zoloft currently. I have severe anxiety and am on the waiting list for an autism screening. It’s defo helped me focus and be able to sit still for a bit longer. It’s also stopped me from having as many mini meltdowns about things I can’t control. Overall I thinks it’s been a positive experience! Much love❤️

I used to work as a CNA in nursing homes. Several of the Alzheimer's patients who exhibited anxiety induced aggression were prescribed Buspar to help manage those behaviors. It did seem to help calm, although not completely alleviate the anxiety induced behaviors some of the patients experienced frequently. Just adore your precious family and have come to look so forward each day to keeping up with the Maass Squad....you all are amazing....much love from Oklahoma!!!

And on the chicken...which sounds so delicious....maybe the pickle juice soggied up the coating so that the egg wash wouldn't hold it....also try crushing them into finer crumbs with a processor/blender maybe? Looked superb regardless!!! Love the imperfectness....just like at my house :D

The key to using pork rinds in place of breading is to allow them to hydrate a bit. They get more gummy at that point and will stay on better. So when I make fried chicken I do the egg-wash, then pork rinds, then another egg wash and another pork rinds. Then each piece goes onto a cooling rack that is placed on a cookie sheet. Once done with all the chicken, I put the whole pan in the fridge for at least an hour. Then when I fry the chicken, I don't turn it or mess with it any more than I have to. There will always bee some pork rinds fall off, but not as many if you let them get hydrated. ETA: if you add a bit of finely shredded Parmesan cheese in with the pork rinds, and they have to be really finely ground up, that helps them stick better too.

I was on zoloft for anxiety. It made me feel like a zombie. I became depressed and nonfunctional. Getting off it is he!!. I had to fight through "brain zaps" for weeks, feels like you are having mini-brain seizures while you with draw off the medication. And of course, your brain is having to re-wire itself while your emotions are no longer kept in check, by the meds. I suffered both physical and emotional pain while getting off zoloft. I had to cycle off it by slowly dropping my dosage and the process took over 8 months. This is only my experience and I am by no way a doctor nor do I face the challenges of autisim. Wishing you the best as you make these important decisions for Abigail.

I had 2 really bad health scares there. and when I came back, espec. the second time... you wouldn't believe how they acted!! the CSMs, assist mgrs, - they gave me big hugs and were soo happy to see me!! our mgr. gave me such a big hug!! It was in a public hallway where all the therapists talk with the parents.....i was mortified

I tried both the buspar and hydroxine after I started my journey to sobriety 2 years ago. The buspar made me feel literally crazy in my head. It also made me have homicidal thoughts. The hydroxine just did nothing but make me sleep. Xanex or Valium ultimately work the best but for me i have decided to try and cope with my anxiety without medication.

I agree with you, Mariah! The Buspar made my anxiety worse...I actually hit a parked car while on it. Felt horrible on Zoloft too. Prozac has been a Godsend!! I've been on it for 25 years now. Every time I attempt to go off it, within 3 months, I can't sleep... can't shut my brain off. You're also right about the brainzaps while going off most antidepressants. It's imperative to wean off very slowly. Great Facebook page called Cymbalta Hurts Worse. They guide you on the best way to wean off antidepressants without all the horrible side effects.

It's awesome you're trying cbd. Keep in mind that industrial hemp cbd (the cbd that's legal in all states) is much less potent because it's made with hemp. Cbd provided by dispensaries in legal states are made from the flower bud of the plants and has much stronger properties. For example the stronger one in legal states can stop seizures. The industrial hemp cbd would not. I feel like this is a big factor for why it may not work as best as it can for most people

I personally take buspirone for my anxiety and at first I didn’t like it because it made me super dizzy/tired, but now that my body got used to it a little more it helps a lot! I don’t use it very often it’s just an as needed thing for me when I feel really panicky or am struggling. I like that it’s not addictive or habit forming and that I can use it as needed too.

I have 10 year old twins who are in the spectrum. Aiden has ADHD, high anxiety/ separation anxiety, and is ID (intellectually disabled) but not severe - IQ is 76. Alyssa is ADHD, has PTSD, sensory issues, anxiety and is ID (IQ is 68) They both have been on Prozac, Focalin and Kapvey with great results. I, myself have been on Buspar (Busparone) which has helped me tremendously. I was experiencing devastating anxiety and panic attacks. Buspar has completely taken all of that away. I also take Citalipram (Celexa) and Welbutrin for depression. The three medications together work beautifully to keep me on an even keel. My panic attacks were debilitating and I'm so thankful for how they work for me. I'm also so thankful that I ran across your you and your family. I have learned so much from watching your videos. I am also subscribed to Pots Pans and Priscilla. I enjoy you all because you are real and easy to relate to. We are from North Carolina as well so a lot that you say and do is just familiar to me. Love your videos. They are really helping me understand how to better help support my friend and her little boys. ❤ As for the Keto chicken, I think the pork rind crumbs were probably too big, try putting them in the food processor for a couple pulses. Then after breeding the chicken refrigerated the breaded chicken for about a half hour before frying it and the coating should stick better. Hope that helps you.😀

After breading the chicken (please don't breed it, LOL) refrigerate it for half an hour to let the egg wash bind with the crumbs. You can then either bake it or fry it and it should turn out still breaded when you eat it.

Great to see you guys are so positive :) You seem like such great parents. Sorry to hear Abbie has OCD too. Autism do magnify our emotions - I have a high functioning type, but I assume that's true across spectrum - when I stim, it's usually for the reason that emotions are so big, they come out through noises with my voice, or in other ways. The pictures Abbie made are cool!

I take Buspar for generalized anxiety disorder... and you might have success, but its really a mixed bag of responses. Some people do really well and it really chills them out. But for me I found no relief for my day to day anxiety that started to affect my daily life hardcore. I hope you find success because its nonaddictive and I always try to go with things that are not addictive. I also have experience with hydroxyzine, and it chilled me out, but it chilled me out to the point I slept all day, and when I woke up, my anxiety returned. It can also be used for nausea, which is a side effect of my anxiety so it helped with my main concerns, but disrupted my daily life to where I couldn't function. So I still have not found anything that works, but I truly do hope these work for Abigail, because it hurts my heart to see this sweet girl struggle.

Obviously everyone's experience is different because all our brains are different... I was prescribed Zoloft for anxiety and did not have good results. It made me feel suicidal. I switched to Prozac and 10+ years later am still on it with great results. (on the "everyone is different" line, my aunt had the exact opposite effect). I'm sure you guys already know that all psych meds are trial and error; you're old hands at all this! Good luck with the medication and CBD trials. I hope you find something that works without too much trial and error! Love your videos, love you guys!

Working in respite care I've had clients on buspar and I've noticed it makes them just so emotional and cry alot, I was in charge of one individual's psych appointments (she was in her 50's) and the psych and I ultimately agreed to take her off of it for that reason. It helped her anxiety but she was just sad while on it you know? Hydroxyzine is wonderful I've had clients have awesome results from it and I take it as well and love it. However I'm not autistic, however I do have dysautonomia and OCD and I've heard the sensory processing defects that come with it are similar to autism.

I have been reading and reading hoping to hear something on Hydroxyzine, I got placed on it today and I am HFA and so nervous over meds. Glad to see this comment. Can you tell me the doses you all take and results? I took one tonight at 8:20 and by 9 I was a little groggy so first dose and nervous about what to expect. I was given HCL 10 mg tabs that I can take up to 4 times a day.

Basically that's about all you'll feel! I've been told it helps nausea, headaches and itchiness too. My doctor basically wrote it so I could take 1-4 in a dose since sometimes I need something a little more for my anxiety so 40mg is the most you should ever take at a time/in a day. I noticed eventually I would have to take more than one after a while because I grew a tolerance to it pretty quickly. I haven't had a single side effect with it so from my experience it's a pretty fool proof and low-risk medication.

Being HFA I get over done easy and that is why I was prescribed it. My Doctor wants me to have less anxiety due to sensory issues/being over done et. Thank you. And yeah, she said I could take more than one if needed.

Try adding the coating and then baking it instead of pan frying. The coating will stick and it tastes just the same as fried. Oven fried! :)

I know this is like a year later, but I actually take Zoloft (well, 100mg generic zoloft versions lol) and Busporine. I take the generic zoloft daily and the other on a as-needed basis. Mainly on days where I am facing high-stress situations. I have been on it for about 6 years and it's worked pretty well for me.

Zoloft changed my husbands life for the better. His anxiety was so bad he's back to work and doing so good they also gave him the hydroxicine for break through panic attacks and yes it works just like Benadryl. Hope all goes well with Abby's med changes

I'm on Zoloft for depression and anxiety. This was my first psych med (my psychiatrist made it sound like that mattered), it knocked the depression out completely almost immediately, for the anxiety I had to increase the dose from 50 to 100mg. I'd say it's about a 95% improvement.

I took buspar for anxiety and ptsd for years. It helped a lot! My 5 year old goes tomorrow to get meds for his anxiety and ptsd and this is one that I would hope they want to give him. He also was recently diagnosed (so far) with spd and an unnamed behavioral problem. We won’t know the name until next month. But as far as anxiety and buspar I personally loved it. If I needed to take it again I would.

I was put on zoloft for a short period of time because I have extreme anxiety and OCD that was causing depression. Unfortunately I was sensitive to the medication and I literally couldn't stand up for the two weeks I was on it. The day I stopped taking it all that stopped. Didn't work for me just based on how my body reacted to it but I've had a few friends on it that it's worked for. The way it was explained to me was that on the spectrum of antidepressant/antianxiety medications is that it's the most neutral one so a good bet for most people. It's great you have a doctor that isn't med heavy. Meds are great to support you in things that you struggle with but I always felt like being heavily medicated just has more side effects and dulls your personality. For me I was able to get through crippling anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and depression through cognitive behavioural therapy, but I also know people that relied more on the meds than therapy. I love that you find what works for Abbi and not what works for a doctor.

Here's my experience with the medications you mentioned: 1.) I've taken buspar (I've heard it pronounced byoo-spar). I was prescribed it for anxiety, but I didn't find that it did me much good. 2.) I'm currently on zoloft - I think it's working okay for me right now. 3.) As a vet tech I have given patients hydroxyzine - usually for skin inflammation due to allergies. But it did have a "side effect" of drowsiness/calmness on my canine patients. 4.) I currently consume CBD daily. I have experimented with all sorts of methods of consumption. My current experiment is a high cbd/low thc gummy chew that I take twice a day. As of right now I'm on the fence about how I feel about it. I am really curious to see how your CBD experiment will affect Abbie. I hope it does her some good.

I am retired school psychologist and off and on depressed retired person! Buspar, also known as Wellbutrin and Bupropion, is a common add on medication to see if it will help the present medication or it is given alone - very common among my former school children clients - for me little or no side effects when I was on it - it takes time to work (or it doesn’t work!) it’s been given to children for many, many years and seems safe -
