Yoo, that's actually cool that you do it this way bc my mom taught me how she made her crusties and it is almost exactly the same way (shes a goth punk so i was kinda born into it 😂). Instead of folding the ends of the patches tho, she'd trim the edge so itd be clean and lightly lather the back of the patch with a liquid adhesive for cloth so it wouldnt fray. She also used actual thread rather than floss, but same idea basically. When i made mine, i accidentally sewed the patch and pants to my underwear bc i had no idea what i was doing until i asked her during a visit 😂

One thing i discovered when i started using dental floss is that you don't need tie a knot at all. If you got a lighter with a concentrated flame (the sharp blue flames), you can melt the tips of the dental floss into a ball. Much faster than making a knot and so far it's been pretty strong aswell.

@@Novak219 i think he’s referring to when you’re done sewing and you have that extra bit of thread or whatever you’re using left instead of just tying it into a knot you get a lighter and burn it into the actual fabric itself so it’s intertwined and tougher than a simple knot.

I'm currently working on my first ever pair of patch pants and let me tell you, there's some GRUESOME stitching being done out there by people who just want to `wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am`-that shit. Making all of my own patches took like 25+ hours, currently on like hour 50+ of sowing them on etcetc. It's hard work and you can't speed it up or rush it, like you said. (also why do people want to do it fast? The joy of working hours on end on a pair that'll take you through anything is like the best part of this lol) Anyway, really loved the vid, thanks man :)

@AvivaDamonАй бұрын
It's crazy how many things you do exactly the same way I do when I thought I came up with a lot of them. The one thing I do different which has made my life a lot easier is I take a thin line of glue and go around the outer rim of the patch on the back side of it and then just glue them down with cheap fabric glue because I like the frayed parts sticking out but if you put the glue on there you can get them perfectly straight and when you pull the thread around the edge it will go right over the glue holding the whole thing in place so nothing pulls out and you still get those frayed edges and it's just so much easier in general. Now I only have to put stuff in my pockets and whatnot when I'm sewing because if it's glued down I can just hold it with my hand and sew it up real quick. I wish I would have figured when I was a lot younger but definitely try it out. It's the biggest time saver ever. I try to only patch my pants when there's actual holes that have formed in them but they always form around the crotch so I end up having this patch diaper going at first and I have to start evening it out no matter what or it looks ridiculous. Anyone else have that problem😂? I also like using a lot of different fabrics because I think it just looks better. Makes them more interesting I guess. Getting older now I'm too damn lazy to even sell my crotch up. I'll just leave it till it gets too ridiculous and go steal some more skinny jeans from some store and try to get them dirty and wear them in as quick as possible because I hate new pants and shirts! 🤬

I've never made a pair of patch pants but I have made a patch hat before. It doesn't have any patches with designs on them its just denim scraps from old jeans that I i used to cover my hat. But I have always really liked the look of "messy" stitching (like doing x shaped, v shaped and slanted stitches all mixed together) and thats how I did my hat. I personally like to call it Franken-stitching. I know a lot of punks really like the straight stitch look but I think that as long as you make sure all of your stitches aren't too short and that your patches are on securely it shouldn't really matter.

So I took my crust pants and cut out an "inner seam" along the inside legs, all the way through the crotch. I then hand sewed them over and onto a donor pair of pants. I then went back and patched over the empty spaces with new patches to hid the blank space on the inside of the legs. Optionally you could cut the seam on the outside of the pants if you want to. It is a bit of work but definitely worth the effort. Feel free to dm me on Instagram with any questions @reptil_kodiya

It basically all comes down to what you can find to use and the skill u have to put it together. Also, if you’re doin it fun than it’s an artistic freedom of expression that nobody can judge for obvious reasons…. Anyways, i can go all day on “elitists” cuz they SUUUUUCK!!

if i'm using denim patches should i still fold them over?
@reptil_diy Жыл бұрын
Absolutely, all clothe patches should be folded over/given a seam to stop them from fraying after sewing. The only patches that you do not need to do this are embroidered patches

Hey man this video is awesome I’ve been patching for a while now and I’m wondering how to stitch my shoes on my pants like yours at the end of the video
@reptil_diy2 жыл бұрын
You just cut apart the uppers from a pair of cloth sneakers (converse,vans, ect), then safety pin them over crotch and existing zipper, then sew them on with dental floss or waxed thread, then run your shoelaces through. You don't really really "replace" the zipper or the crotch of the pants (atleast I don't but you can if you want), you just sew over it. One day I'll make a video

@@Mavthepunk thanks for watching! In this video I am wearing a studded leather jacket but yes anything I wear is something that I make. Here is a tutorial on making bracers from up-cycled leather that you might enjoy though🦖 kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpC7dahui7h0is0si=d0KRk2975OnJFagf

this is pretty comforting to hear :') as a young kid and a newbie to the punk culture with a fear of rejection, it really helps, especially when I'm still confused about everything
@undyingclearlight79882 жыл бұрын
@@woerm_luvr Yeah there's assholes in every scene- its all about what being punk means for you. If its something that is helping you find your direction in life, thats all that matters. Also alot of the gatekeeper types are some of the biggest posers I've met!
